Of more importance aaa travel agency than being conscience of our physical makeup as the Nazi preoccupation was it is much more important to be conscience of our spiritual composition and of our relationship with God. Our Spiritual condition is much more important than our physical condition can ever be.
Winston S. Churchill deceptive aaa travel agency English statesman, Illuminati member, leading NWO advocate, English occultist Aleister Crowley (1875-1947) devotee, British Nazi-Imperialist Cecil John Rhodes (1853-1902) companion, mass murderer architect of WWI, WWII WWIII "I'm bored with it all."
Albert Pike (1809-1891) [Confederate Civil War General] He said "three future world wars would prepare the world for the New World Order. ... (NWO) will receive the true light through the universal manifestation aaa travel agency of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought aaa travel agency finally out in the public view, a manifestation which will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow aaa travel agency the destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time"
The Satanic illuminati-NWO has been attempting for centuries to overthrow the Judeo-Christian worldview and bring in their own non-Christian New World Order (NWO) worldview. Around the turn of the 1900's the NWO decided that Three World Wars would be the quickest path to their so called secular NWO. The first two World Wars have come and gone. A third world war has been in the offering for a while. Originally it seems that the NWO's intention was to use Communism (Soviet Union - China) as the main belligerents for their WWIII in the same manner that Germany and Japan were the main belligerents for WWII. While Communism has been quick to exterminate their own people on a massive scale it has on large failed to create the desired NWO WWIII. The NWO now seems to have reconfigured their plans slightly by replacing WWIII communism aaa travel agency with WW3 Islam particularly the Iranian - radical Shiite-Islam. Shiite Islam now seems to be intended aaa travel agency by the NWO to be the main trigger for massive civilian deaths in a newly configured NWO WW3 scenario.
Where the main thrust of WWI, WWII, and WWIII was physical in nature and physical in the realm of operations the different aaa travel agency WW3 is more spiritual in nature and operates more in the spiritual realm, attacking more of an individual's spiritual, emotional and mental aaa travel agency faculties.
Really though WWII merged into WW3 in the Nazi concentration death camps particularly with the addition aaa travel agency of the electrified wire fencing aaa travel agency surrounding the Auschwitz death camp. A double fence of electrified aaa travel agency wire surrounded Auschwitz I and a single fence of electrified wire proved to be effective enough in surrounding the newer Auschwitz II the extermination camp Birkenau. The electric bare-wire fences at both camps conducted excessive levels of amps and voltages aaa travel agency that would instantly be lethal to any human contact. Much more than being a detriment to escape the electrified fences were an ever beckoning invitation from a heinous death camp administration to the destitute inmates inviting them to touch the electrified fence at any moment and instantly give up their own life. Forever surrendering their future and resigning all of their earthly hopes, ambitions and dreams as death was the final and the only outcome to answering the call of touching the fence.
With the mentally aaa travel agency torturous introduction of the electrified lethal wire fencing and the inmates ability to touch the fence at nearly any time the WWII concentration camps of Auschwitz I & II became the foundation of the persistent emotional, mental and spiritual conflict of WW3.
Auschwitz I the original camp, located in Poland was founded aaa travel agency in 1940 by the invading Nazi Germany, from the conversion of an old Polish aaa travel agency brick army barracks. aaa travel agency Auschwitz II "Birkenau" located nearby opened in 1942. [Wiki.com]
"It was not my intention to doubt that the doctrines of the Illuminati had not spread in the United States. On the contrary, no one is more fully satisfied of this fact than I am." ~ George Washington, 1782
"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. aaa travel agency Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the Field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, aaa travel agency so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it." ~ Woodrow Wilson, 1913
"I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. aaa travel agency Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely aaa travel agency controlled and dominated governments aaa travel agency in the civilized world. No longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men." ~ Woodrow Wilson, 1916
"From the days of Spartacus-Weishaupt to those of Karl Marx, to those of Trotsky, aaa travel agency Bela Kun, Rosa Luxembourg, and Emma Goldman, this world wide conspiracy for the overthrow of civilization and for the reconstitution of society on the basis of arrested development, of envious malevolence and impossible equality, has been steadily growing. It played a definitely recognizable role in the tragedy of the French Revolution. It has been the mainspring of every subversive aaa travel agency movement during the nineteenth century, and now at last this band of extraordinary personalities from the underworld of the great cities of Europe and America have gripped the Russian people by the hair of their heads, and have become practically the undisputed masters of that enormous empire." ~ Winston Churchill, 1920
"The real menace of our Republic is the invisible government which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy legs over our cities, states and nation. At the head is a small group of banking houses. This little coterie aaa travel agency run our government for their own selfish ends. It operates under cover of a self-created aaa travel agency screen, seizes our executive officers, legislative bodies, schools, courts, newspapers and every agency created aaa travel agency for the public protection. ~ N.Y. Mayor, John Hylan, 1922
"... when the struggle aaa travel agency seems to be drifting definitely towards a world social democracy, there may still be very great delays and disappointments before it becomes an efficient and beneficent world system. Countless people ... will hate the new world order ... and will die protesting against it. When we attempt to evaluate aaa travel agency its promise, we have to bear in mind the distress of a generation or so of malcontents, many of them quite gallant and graceful-looking people." ~ H. G. Wells, in his book entitled "The New World Order" (1939)
"We shall have World Government, whether or not we like it. The only question is whether World Government will be achieved by conquest or consent." ~ Statement made before the United States Senate on Feb. 7, 1950 by James Paul Warburg
"Today the path to total dictatorship in the United States can be laid by strictly legal means, unseen and unheard by the Congress, the President, aaa travel agency or the people outwardly we have a Constitutional government. We have operating within our government and political system, another body representing another aaa travel agency form of government, a bureaucratic elite which believes our Constitution is outmoded and is sure that it is the winning side. All the strange developments aaa travel agency in the foreign policy agreements aaa travel agency may be traced to this group who are going to make us over to suit their pleasure. This political action group has its own local political support organizations, its own pressure groups, its own vested interests, its foothold within our government, and its own propaganda apparatus." ~ Senator William Jenner, 1954
"The invisible Money Power is working to control and enslave mankind. It financed Communism, Fascism, Marxism, Zionism, Socialism. All of these are directed to making the United States a member of a World Government." ~ American Mercury Magazine, 1957
"The most powerful clique in these (CFR) groups have one objective in common: they want to bring about the surrender of the sovereignty and the national independence of the U.S. They want to end national boundaries and racial and ethnic loyalties supposedly to increase business and ensure world peace. What they strive aaa travel agency for would inevitably aaa travel agency lead to dictatorship and loss of freedoms by the people. The CFR was founded for "the purpose of promoting disarmament and submergence aaa travel agency of U.S. sovereignty aaa travel agency and national independence into an all-powerful one-world government." ~ Harpers, July l958
"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society, and we are as a people, inherently and historically, oppossed to secret societies, secret oaths, and secret proceedings. For we are oppossed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence. It depends on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly effecient aaa travel agency machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific, and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published, its mistakes are buried, not headlined, its dissenters are silenced, not praised, no expendature is questioned, no secret is revealed... I am asking your help in the tremendous task of informing and alerting aaa travel agency the American people. ~ JFK, 1961
"The Trilateral aaa travel agency Commission is intended to be the vehicle for multinational consolidation of the commercial and banking interests by seizing control of the political government of the United aaa travel agency States. We departed Shelburne Harbor 0830 Saturday, 28 August, bound for Provincetown MA. According to the chart this was to be a 260 NM leg. We'd been pinned down in Shelburne by a series of offshore depressions and tropical cyclones since 22 August and it was beginning to seem that we'd shortly be granted Canadian citizenship by default. We finally comfort inn and suites discount hotel downtown kansas city identified a window of several days with fair or light winds that allowed passage to P-Town, so off we went. Jean and Josiane on Kurika were directly ahead of Kerry Deare as we both motored the 10 or so miles down harbor to the Atlantic Ocean. My final view of these close friends was as Kurika passed the Cape Roseway lighthouse on McNutts Island, heading to sea (photo left). They were headed to Portland ME and all my efforts to lure them to the MA coast had been unsuccessful. It seemed I would not again have the pleasure of their company. The first obstacle one encounters when sailing west on this route is Cape Sable. The Cape has a reputation for turbulent waters, particularly when the 2 to 4 knot current there is opposed to the wind. All the cruising guides and pilot books recommend that mariners stay well offshore in this area and I planned to do just that. I'd rounded this cape several times in the past without issue, but of course there's a first time for everything and this was that time. Despite a forecast of light winds and calm seas, the NW wind came up with authority at 1300, attaining a speed of 25 to 30 knots. Ahead I could just make out Kurika under all plain sail smashing to weather and doing well. Little comfort inn and suites discount hotel downtown kansas city Kerry Deare however had other ideas and in short order we were hove to under double-reefed main with the helm down, leisurely waiting for the wind to pipe down. The old man just didn't want to bounce all that much. We got underway again at about 1700 (now using EDT). A short time later I spoke the 154 foot schooner Meteor bound for Maine (photo at left by Kirk on Arion ). I wanted to inform her captain comfort inn and suites discount hotel downtown kansas city that his AIS signal was broadcasting his destination as Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, which was obviously incorrect based on his course and speed. This is one of several instances on this cruise when transmitted AIS data did not correspond to a vessel's comfort inn and suites discount hotel downtown kansas city actual intentions. Meteor's comfort inn and suites discount hotel downtown kansas city skipper said he would investigate. We continued motor sailing into light airs on relatively calm seas for the next 38 hours without incident or interruption, shutting down occassionally to check fluids, transfer fuel, and check systems. Then, while resting below about 60 NM east of the tip of Cape Cod, I was startled to learn we had a passenger. A small bird, possibly a sparrow, had landed on Kerry Deare for a rest and was flying around the main cabin (photo at right). During the visit the bird made a point of checking out the accommodation below decks several times and left his personal calling card on the cabin sole. Since I didn't want to tempt fate, the mess remained in place until we were securely moored at our final destination. After an hour or so he decided he didn't like sailing all that much and flew off. After 55 hours underway I finally picked up the signature of Cape Cod on the 16 mile radar range. An hour later I was able to make cell phone contact with my wife Sonia and let her know we were getting close to home, and it was during this call that she gave me the latest weather advisory on offshore tropical cyclones. We'd been out of radio contact for a few days this was very important information that helped shape our course of action for the rest of this leg. The situation wasn't pretty. There were at least 2 and possibly 3 tropical systems offshore (Earl, Fiona and Gaston) that gave every evidence of heading in our direction, so finding a safe refuge was the next step. Although I'd been off soundings for well over two days and had planned a rest stop in Provincetown, I decided to continue on through the night, transit the Cape Cod Canal when the current went favorable at 0200 local, and head directly for New Bedford MA, one of the most secure harbors on the US East Coast. This decision added 40 or so NM to the leg, for a total of roughly 300 NM from Shelburfne to New Bedford via the Canal. I entered the Canal at almost exactly 0200 31 August, a Tuesday morning, about 64 hours out from Shelburne. As predicted the tide was just going favorable and we were soon riding the current and making 7 to 8 knots over the bottom. The Canal at night is a mysterious and quiet place and I used the full array of electronics comfort inn and suites discount hotel downtown kansas city to keep Kerry Deare lined up down the middle of the route. Fortunately comfort inn and suites discount hotel downtown kansas city there was no commercial traffic to worry us, and we exited the Canal at 0330 into Buzzards Bay. We were greeted by a light northerly, a perfect breeze to sail for New Bedford. That we promptly did, finally shutting down the diesel after far too many hours of constant running. Things were looking up. At 0730 we passed through the famous gates that guard New Bedford and Fairhaven from hurricanes and tropical systems. We were secured alongside at Fairhaven Shipyard at 0800, 31 August, comfort inn and suites discount hotel downtown kansas city almost exactly 3 days out of Shelburne. After a long and uneventful passage and safe arrival stateside, a welcome rest for both Kerry Deare and me was in store.

Tomorrow is the crossing to Canada. We ll be leaving from Southwest Harbor ME (near Bar Harbor) to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Crossing the Gulf of Maine and the Bay of Fundy it s 13 hours in the North Atlantic most of the time not seeing land. Sounds a little spooky, huh? Winds will be 10-15 knots and waves less than 1 meter (3 feet). I have no idea what the temperature omni hotel new orleans will be because it s listed in Celsius and I haven t mastered that yet. We happened to get a complimentary slip tonight when the fuel dock ran out of fuel as we were being filled. We re full except for 50 gallons omni hotel new orleans (out of 800), so not a problem. We ve been scurrying to do laundry (since we re on a dock) and get ready to cross into Canada find the Canadian courtesy flag, get out the Canadian charts and cruising guides, check out weather, figure out how to reprogram our radios, etc. It s been pretty hectic. Cell phone service and internet access will be spotty in Nova Scotia. We ll be using Vicki s phone only (302-528-6222). Don t call Norm s phone we won t answer it because we d incur big time roaming omni hotel new orleans charges. Keep those emails coming we love the connection. We spent four days in Castine Maine and loved it! It s a town of 1300 including the 700- student Maine Maritime Academy great experience of small town America we did the 4th of July fun run yesterday followed by a parade and fireworks last night. Jeff and Karen Siegel, friends of Jim and Robin, were terrific omni hotel new orleans hosts. They re even storing alcohol that we couldn t bring into Canada. (Limited to 40 oz liquor OR 2 L wine OR 24 cans of beer per person.) By the way.... Today is the beginning of our 2nd cruising month. It seems like much longer than that!

It seems that the weather gods are blessing our fall mini-cruise of the Nova Scotia Eastern Shore: brilliant sunshine, enough wind to keep us hopping —but not so much that the sailing becomes uncomfortable—and, so far, it’s blowing in the right direction for heading east—we’ll see what happens when we want to head back west, into the prevailing discount last minute cruises winds.
One of the nicest things about this cruise is that we are taking the time to explore a part of the coast that we have sailed along for over 20 years but usually when we are in a hurry to get north or in even more of a hurry to get south!
The first place we have chosen to explore in-depth on this cruise is Shelter Cove, an aptly named anchorage on a non-road-served Nova Scotia Nature Trust protected peninsula about 50 nautical miles east of Halifax.
We have used Shelter Cove as a way-stop on numerous occasions. In fact, the first time I visited back in 1998, it was so foggy I couldn’t even see the shore surrounding the cove, so I left as ignorant of the place as I arrived! Several discount last minute cruises other visits at least allowed me to see the surroundings, though we never went ashore.
To get here we had a glorious downwind, wing on wing sail. We could see the swells from the 25-knot discount last minute cruises southwest winds breaking on the rocks just outside the cove but once in the anchorage the swell died right out.
We tidied up the deck as the sun sank lower and lower, discount last minute cruises with pale pinks and powder blues reflected discount last minute cruises in the calm water of the cove. By the time dinner was over, the sky was a glittering discount last minute cruises palette of stars.
The next day we anchored the dinghy at the head of the cove using our new dinghy pullout system, which John will describe in a future post. A short scramble and we were across to the other side of the peninsula where we found a beautiful sand beach. A short walk over the dunes further along and we were on another beach. If sunbathing is your thing, there’s a beach here in the lee of whatever wind might be blowing!
The following day we anchored the dinghy discount last minute cruises in a little cove on the mainland side of the anchorage, sheltered from the brisk southwest sea breeze, and hiked along a woodland path to a low isthmus—at spring high tides, I expect that Shelter Cove is on an island for a few hours—where we ate our lunch.
A further walk through more woods and low scrub led us to a road and on to Cooper’s Point, a pocket-sized manmade harbour sheltering a small sailboat rocking discount last minute cruises in the gusty winds. A local dog followed closely at our heels, making sure we didn’t stray from the road and onto her territory.
My wife and I had the opportunity to drive around the island this summer, and it warmed my heart to see a sailboat moored up in pretty much every cove we passed. It was absolutely beautiful then, and I can imagine in the fall it s even better. Glad you are enjoying such a great cruise.
Love that little cove and those beaches are a huge hit with our kids. It can get relatively busy (by NS standards anyway: 4-5 boats) in there in August it s definitely on a few lists now. But there s excellent holding and great explorations ashore. And most lovely of all, it s nature discount last minute cruises trust protected and you can t drive there.
We also enjoyed sober island (despite the name!), just off Sheet Harbor entrance. Bicycles ashore and had a great tour of the lagoon and fishing village there. And, we spent a magical weekend in the lagoon at Sutherland Island, about 5 miles further east. Tricky entrance (The charts show NO water in there but there is!). it s one of those classic NS follow the valley discount last minute cruises in between the two granite discount last minute cruises ridges like Cross Island entrance. Once in it s very secure, although not much swinging room lines ashore. Deserted though, with wonderful wildlife and lovely views.
Kareen discount last minute cruises and I love that cove and beach as well. Isn t the town at the head of the bay (possibly Tangier??) where the Willy Krauch (sp?) Smokehouse discount last minute cruises is? Seems to me we took an exploration in the inflatable up there and departed with some great smoked seafood.
Would be great to hear what your dinghy haulout system is. Ours this time of year (to avoid too waist deep wading) is throw the dinghy anchor discount last minute cruises and chain as far as you can and haul the dinghy back into the beach using it s stern line you anchored on the beach dragging the anchor!!!

Attainable Adventure Cruising is not about feats of derring-do; rather, this site is about gear and techniques that have let us, who are not particularly intrepid, cruise some of the world's more remote and challenging places without exceeding our capabilities.
For us, Attainable Adventure Cruising has often meant expedition voyages to the Arctic, but it has also meant a snug harbour in Down East Maine or a remote cove on the coast of Norway. It is our hope that whatever an Attainable Adventure Cruise is to you, the information provided here will help you attain it.

Whenever canadian travel advisories I asked a local where to get the best taste of the St. John Valley ( or St. Jean, if you re French )—that strip of Acadian culture separated from New Brunswick, Canada, by the St. John River—the answer was always a variation of: You must go to Dolly s for the best ployes, creton, canadian travel advisories and chicken stew .
Backstory: I ve been cruising through Downeast canadian travel advisories Maine and Aroostook County for the past week researching the new edition of Moon Maine (spring 2011), and I m finally home and in one place long enough (and with reliable Internet access) to start dishing on my finds and giving you updates on what s happening in these rural Maine gems.
When first told that Dolly s was a must, we headed right there. Unfortunately, it was a Tuesday, when it s closed. Now frankly, Dolly s, on Route 1 in Frenchville, isn t much to look at from the outside, canadian travel advisories and we hadn t planned to return, but as we continued down the road and kept asking, the answer remained Dolly s. So we made a 70-mile detour canadian travel advisories to return for breakfast canadian travel advisories on Wednesday, and oh! my! yes!
Say what ? you ask. Ployes—French-Acadian buckwheat pancakes cooked only on one side—are traditionally served like bread with every meal. And creton is a French-Canadian meat spread. Put the two together, and perhaps add a bit (or more) real maple syrup, and the result is heaven. I like to think the health canadian travel advisories benefits of the ployes cancel out the artery-busting creton.
Dolly s has been here forever , our waitress said, as I watched her pour the batter canadian travel advisories onto the griddle and cook the ployes. The reason Dolly s ployes are so good is that they re made from scratch. It s an old recipe, and they re homemade, she said. I make ployes at home, and it took me a long time to get the recipe and the cooking right. The biggest problem is getting canadian travel advisories the griddle temperature right. They re so easy to bu rn, she said. The creton, canadian travel advisories too, is a secret recipe.
Earlier in the week, I d purchased copy of Michael Corbin canadian travel advisories s Cafe de la Place cookbook (Unfortunately, his downtown Madawaska restaurant is no more). It has a recipe for ployes that I plan to make, but I also purchased a bag of Bouchard Family canadian travel advisories Farms ployes mix, too. The farm, in Fort Kent, has long been producing this easy-to-make mix, which you can usually find in specialty and natural foods stores.
The Acadians, by the way, are descendants of the original French settlers in Grand Pre, Nova Scotia, canadian travel advisories who were driven out by the English. Some returned to France, others escaped to New Orleans (where they re known as Cajuns), and others escaped and scattered canadian travel advisories throughout Maritime Canada. Twelve families eventually settled in the St. John Valley, where their heritage still flavors the region. More on this in future posts.

I ve never heard that and I m from the area! Everybody calls it the St. John Valley same as the river it s named after (it may sound different when said with a French accent). Is that what you were told up there?
Hilary, you are good and decent person. I don t know what I d do if I had every Tom, Dick, and Harry critiquing my work. I wasn t as concerned about your blog as I was your guidebook really. I m relentless in my defense of The County.
Mike, I noodled just about every road in The County, and yes, did stop by the LLSC, although didn t eat there this time have before, canadian travel advisories though. My best discovery was the St. Agatha Historical Society Museum. I ll be posting on that, later, but wow! such a fab collection for such a tiny town. I also stocked up on potatoes at various stands, new reds and new whites. And I purchased Michael Corbin s cookbook so I can try to replicate ployes and creton. We ll see
I miss it up there, I really do. Something always tugging at me I gotta say. So cool that you had some creton, my dad s from St. Francis and he grew up on the stuff. I used to eat it on toast. To the outsider, it s really akin to a pork pate. Tasty. The only thing I ve seen even REMOTELY close around here is the pork pate at Lily, but it s a different animal really. Lily s is yummy, but I daresay you d never see creton in the Valley with pistachios in it.
And ployes are a real breakfast for French-Canadiens. I love them yet most of my French-Canuck friends have no idea what I am talking canadian travel advisories about, and I live in New Hampshire! I can t wait to get up to Dolly s if I ever get the chance.
My father was born in Van Buren and grew up in the whole stretch from there to Houlton. I was raised canadian travel advisories in Auburn (not exactly the center of French culture in Maine!) and have just recently realized that much of what I grew up eating canadian travel advisories was French-Canadian. canadian travel advisories I just kinda thought everyone in Maine ate it! Geez, I m 72, you da thought I da figured it out a little sooner, wouldn t ya? Am tired of the fancied canadian travel advisories up cuisine of today and am gonna try fixin some of the old, simple, tasty dishes of the good ol days . Enjoyed the discussion here please keep me on your good list. Thanks
Am originally from Keegan canadian travel advisories Maine which is not Van Buren but we brought up with ployes and creton, which is really great. But on Sundays nights after having a roasted chicken for lunch my Mom would stack ployes on our plate and pour the chicken broth over them , how great that was . Many ways to sereve.

I m laughing to myself over the parts of my French Canadian food heritage I never knew. Cretons were not something I knew, nor were ployes. I grew up in central New England canadian travel advisories (Keene, NH area), and only knew about tortiere from the family recipes. I learned about cretons canadian travel advisories when I was researching fishing communities canadian travel advisories in Massachusetts, and found tourtiere served in a local small restaurant. Then I found the cretons canadian travel advisories I was served last year in Quebec tasted very similar canadian travel advisories to the family recipe for tortiere which I have given out. Won t spill the beans for that one here though!
And I worked up in the area you re visiting in this description long before you started writing (I was a geologist in the north Maine woods back in the late 70s) so the towns are familiar, and darned if Dolly s doesn t sound familiar, too, but I don t remember them serving ployes!

Our journey has entered familiar waters and we are beginning to have mixed feelings beacon hotel miami about it coming to an end. Every moment of this trip has met our expectations and has provided us with memories we will cherish, but now as we approach our home port we are anxious to resume our lives ashore, enjoy our family and friends and plan our next adventure.
Internet access has been unavailable recently so I will attempt to fill in the trip from Eastport to Casco Bay. John came aboard in Eastport and we had a nice short run to Roques Island anchorage. Roques is a privately owned island with a beautiful crescent shaped sandy beach. Cruisers are encouraged to walk the beaches and enjoy the anchorage. We stayed one night and shared the cove with one other cruiser, a sailboat from Southwest Harbor. My first knowledge of Roques came when George beacon hotel miami Machon, music teacher, sailor and artist, showed me a painting by R.B. Dance called Trapping Off Roques Island.
From Roques we cruised to Northeast Harbor, Mount Desert Island. Here we moored among some of the most beautiful boats we have encountered on our trip. We took advantage beacon hotel miami of the free shuttle bus to Bar Harbor and explored the town. This area is very scenic with Cadillac Mountains, steep rocky shorelines and Acadia National Park.
Early the next morning we headed to Swan s Island to look up a friend of Colin and Helen Ray. Swan s is another coastal island with beautiful coves and working waterfronts. We entered Burnt Coat Harbor looking for Ben Doliber, or his boat, Belinda B. We found the boat, rowed into the nearest dock only to find that Ben was off island for the day. We were on a tight schedule to get John to Morse Cove so we had to leave Swan s without meeting Ben. We left him a note with the promise to return someday soon.
The trip from Swan s to Bucks Harbor was exciting. We had just set our course towards the Eggemoggin Reach when we saw our fist schooner. Within minutes we could see no less thand five or six schooners at a time. Out came the binoculars and cameras.
The Eggemoggin Reach connects Jericho Bay with East Penobscot Bay and runs betwen Deer Isle and the mainland. It is very scenic. We made a stop at Benjamin beacon hotel miami River to visit Phil and Karen, fellow cruisers we had met in Nova Scotia. They piled us into their car and gave us the tour of the area including beacon hotel miami the Wooden Boat School in Brooklin.
Bucks Harbor is on the mainland side sheltered by a heart-shaped island. We picked beacon hotel miami up a friend s mooring and went ashore for dinner. I had the best haddock dinner, the fish melted in my mouth. Bucks harbor, besides being a beautiful, well protected harbor, is home to Robert McCloskey s One Morning in Maine . Years ago President Roosevelt s boat would stop at Bucks Harbor for ice cream while on his way to Campobello Island.
Following a quiet night at Bucks Harbor we headed north towards Morse Cove where John had left his car. Morse Cove has a working boatyard but the docks are only accessible at half tide or higher. We arrived at high tide, tied up at the floating dock, unloaded John, said goodbye and headed off to Castine.
Castine is the home to Maine Maritime Academy and their ship The State of Maine. We tied to the town dock and walked into town. It didn t take us long to discover the beauty of this small town. The streets are lined with well maintained homes. Everyhome seemed to have a waterview. You could feel the presence of the college as you walked the streets or were enjoying a lobster roll at the Variety Store.
Next stop Camden. As we approached Camden we saw several schooners heading beacon hotel miami into their home ports of Camden and Rockport. Camden is a small, very crowded, harbor that is very popular with the tourists. Camden is very colorful and attracts beacon hotel miami photographers who are looking for the harbor shots that we see on all the postcards.
From Camden we cruised to Boothbay and moored at the Tugboat Marina. Madeline s parents drove up from Westbrook to join us for a visit to the Coastal beacon hotel miami Maine Botanical Gardens. A gentleman, who was walking his dog on the bridge walk, stated that it had been open for only four years and was the third biggest attraction in Maine according to the technologically savvy people. Number one was Acadia National Park and number two was L.L. Bean. It is definitely worth a visit. It is open year around and has events going throughout the year. There was still plenty beacon hotel miami of color in the gardens and is was a beautiful day to be outside.
Early Sunday morning we headed out of Boothbay for Casco Bay. The seas were calm and many boats were on the move. Our final destination was the Portland Yacht Club in Falmouth Foreside, which is just north of Portland; but we made several stops along the way. Our first was in Potts Harbor off the point of Harpswell, ME to fill up our diesel. After that we went up to a group of islands called the Goslings to have lunch and read. What a life! It was sunny and fairly warm.
For the next few days we will be visiting Madeline s parents in Westbrook, so we will be sleeping in real beds. We ve only slept off the boat one other time since June 30th. That was back in St. Peters, Cape Breton during Hurricane Bill. We enjoyed the couches at the St. Peters Lion s Club Marina.
We re hoping Stephanie will join us later this week for some cruising in Casco Bay and a trip down the coast to Portsmouth. In New Hampshire we will visit my sister for a few days before completing the final leg of our trip, the wonderful coast of Massachusetts to the Canal. I guess it is time. The days are shorter and the nights are cooler. Besides, it will be much easier to plan our next adventure in the comfort of our home. There is more room to spread out the maps, charts and cruising books.
Caught up with the end of your trip after talking w/Madeline. So happy for the two of you to be able to enjoy life do what you want to do. Looking forward to hearing where the next adventure is going to take you! Wonderful picutres, memories writings. Roxanne Jeff
Wow! What a memorable adventure! beacon hotel miami I have enjoyed your blogs and pictures. Sad for it to come to an end, but now you begin a new chapter. Enjoy! (How many days, and how many miles? Just wondering). Ruth

Hoping to make it up to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia this summer and am looking into buying charts. I have the chart books to the Canadian border, but after that it looks like I need to buy individual charts, which gets pricey uk travel insurance online fast. Does anyone sell chart books for Nova Scotia? I understand that I can get electronic charts, but need the paper ones too.
The links above seem to be for individual paper charts, but I know in BC there are a series of chart booklets available for particular regions that are popular with cruisers. It's possible that these are also available back east.. though it's not indicated on the directory uk travel insurance online (and it is for the West coast)

We got only as far as Lunenburg last August because of TS Bill then TS Danny, but that's another story. I looked a fair amount and saw no evidence of books. I ended up being given a set of 15+/- year old charts which, in combination with a new Garmin chip/card, worked out fine. Some markings have changed as I understand the Canadians like to move things around but the land rocks haven't moved too far.
We met a friend of Peter Loveridge's who said Peter would be self-publishing offering online an update uk travel insurance online of his cruising guide, but does not appear to have happened yet. Amazon is offering 3 used from $94 - $999. It's worth $94, not $999. Actually it may be worth $999 but that depends on your income level. It is, hands down, the best book on cruising Nova Scotia.
uk travel insurance online Thanks for all the feedback. I too have heard that some of the markers have been moved around. In a perfect world, I won't need that many charts as I hope run straight to Halifax and then straight uk travel insurance online on to St. Peters and the Lakes. However, I really don't want to be in a situation where I need to get into a harbor and don't have the chart.
As my plans firm up I'll try to post some more info. Our basic plan is pretty simple though. Long Island Sound to Provincetown Harbor on the tip of Cape Cod. From there we're going to make a run for Halifax. Don't have the time to see Maine (love to some day) and if the weather uk travel insurance online is right it could be a great sail if it's out of the SW.
But I like the tiered approach suggested, however, I would not recommend a long single handed trnsit
Question [Edited for brevity]: I’d like to move my boat, a 50’ Hinckley Yawl, from Mt Desert, Maine to Mallorca, Spain and do the Med for 12-18 months. I’ve been thinking about single-handing her across; from Maine direct to Gibraltar.
I’ve never done a transatlantic but have passaged from Maine to Bermuda and St. Thomas as crew on other people’s boats a couple of times and I have single-handed my boat up and down the coast of Maine.
While plenty of people have successfully single-handed across the ocean in the same situation, I favour more of a stepping stones approach. (You can read more about my apprenticeship here .) So what I would do is start off by sailing the boat to Bermuda with at least two crew (total three). Then, if I was still feeling confident, I would carry on from there single-handed.
The bottom line is that no amount of coastal cruising will find the chinks discount travel planning in a boat’s armour like a crossing to Bermuda will, and the same goes for the skipper. With this plan, if those chinks appear, you will have help to deal with them and the trip itself won’t be that long. Also, in all likelihood, the leg to Bermuda will be the toughest so you will have help for that.
You should be asking yourself if you and the boat are qualified. If you have to ask you probably are not qualified. It is incredibly hard to keep a constant and real watch, even with the aid of all the modern electronics, when single handing. Even the legality of single handing can be debated. It is all fun and games until something hits the fan. It is a free world after you cast off the dock lines and if you want you should go for it. If we cross paths Danza will see you as we will have at least one pair of human eyes on watch, watching for anything and everything that can be out there including those who can t be on watch.
Thanks I did ask myself discount travel planning and concluded that I was qualified discount travel planning (neurosurgeons do not lack self confidence; discount travel planning and we re used to irregular sleep patterns). Actually my post to John related more to routing than qualifications. John, rightly, edited it to focus on the latter discount travel planning ( the issue that could get me killed) and made well considered recommendations. Yes, single handed watch-keeping (even with AIS -which I have) is an issue. Legal? With due respects to Slocum, Pidgeon, Roth, Gelinas, McArthur and hundreds of others It isn t! (See Coll Regs 72; PartB; rule 5). But I m grateful that a cybernetic collision with DANZA is one less thing to worry about. Cheers!
But I like the tiered approach suggested, however, I would not recommend a long single handed trnsit until you had several shorter solo trips under the keel. So I think I would prefer to see this first Atlantic crossing done with a crew member.
Thanks for your comment. discount travel planning You (and John) are probably right. That s the real value of this website: the less experienced can profit from the experience of those with much more experience. Beats the heck out of learning the hard way !
if you feel comfortable with this passage knowing the potential for trouble and discomfort then i think you are ok doing it at the optimum time of the year (mid-spring i would think), otherwise the suggested tier approach seems more appropriate to me either in the spring or mid-to-late fall would you consider making the run to bermuda on into next fall and completing the passage to malorca the following spring after you decide this is still what you want to do ? if you arrived bermuda say next thanksgiving then you could resume the passage perhaps as early as late march although late april sounds better ( 13) richard in tampa bay m/v cavu s skipper (formerly s/v sidra s skipper)
This is a great suggestion. What you surmised (leave mid to late May) for a direct trip to Mallorca was what I d considered. That way I d avoid the Hurricane season and use the Gulf Stream, Canary Current discount travel planning and prevailing winds to advantage. I m sure that you know what you re talking about. But I recall a trip to Bermuda in late fall (leaving Dodson s @ Stonington 1 November) and hitting a full gale on the nose with a 25 head sea running the 180 HP Cummins at 1900RPM, making discount travel planning less that 3 knots and getting the c**p beaten out of us (though we made it in 5 days).
I agree with the earlier statements on taking the tiered approach to evaluating this trp. But if you have the confidence to do this trip without an EPIRB, then I suggest you do it. I also suggest discount travel planning you leave the EPIRB at home in order to concentrate your mind from the beginning that you will be 100% responsible to yourself discount travel planning alone for the success of this voyage.
Additionally, discount travel planning I would not plan on landfall in Gibraltar; instead find a Spanish port further west and rest up first. The traffic in the Straits is intense and you will really need to be fresh to make it through safely. This from personal experience.
I guess that someone who would do such a trip in the first place, would leave the EPIRB at home (or not register it remember Mike Plant?) I agree with you: it s not right that people who do stupid things are entitled to put others at risk bailing them out when things don t go well. Thanks for the excellent tip about making discount travel planning landfall (and clearing C I) at a Spanish Port of entry before Gibraltar, say Cadiz (BTW, I am a dual citizen: US and EU don t know if that helps). But a good rest and being able to pick a good weather window before pressing on through the Straits would be a great idea.
The single-handed issue is a hard one. Having done a bit of it some years ago I don t judge either way. Although discount travel planning I would say that the statistical chances of a single-hander hurting someone else in a collision are, once offshore, in my opinion, vanishingly small. So, I think it comes down to a personal risk management choice: Are you willing to take the risk of being run down by a ship while you sleep? And these days an AIS with a klaxon alarm below will reduce that chance a huge amount.
Well, Tom, you are probably right. Mind you that when the great BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill, I was there, solo, making the trip from Kemah, thru Galveston, where my engine failed me and the whole thing, meaning wind generating turbine, and bilge pump failure, and loosing discount travel planning of all my battery power, left me with nothing, not even charts, discount travel planning as due to the torrential rains my computer got water to it s interiors, and everything was lost. Somehow, close to Clearwater, with the little battery remaining, I sent out a rescue request, not a Mayday, Not a Pan, not a Securite. No one s life was at risk, nobody was hurt, there was no real danger for any other ships. Somehow I was fortunate, the US Coast Guard gave me a hand, and I had a short tow from there to Clearwater, Fl.
Mind you, it was not my first experience, I got my boat beached on Crystal Beach in Texas, when I tried to make it solo to CostaRica prior to Christmas 2008.. I got pulled out of the beach, as my boat was in a great risk of having the fuel tanks punctured, and due to that fact the US Coast Guard ORDERED THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO HAVE MY BOAT PULLED OUT, or otherwise pay a great penalty if there ocurred a spill.
Therefore, the culprit of the whole thing was that the person who sold me the boat, somehow, fixed the fuel tank leaks, in a very unprofessional way, with some gook, that dissolved slowly in posterior trips, and completely made my diesel engine, discount travel planning a Perkins 4108 inoperative.
discount travel planning Once I replaced, I literally ripped out the old fuel tank from my boat when in Clearwater, Fl. and replaced it myself with a Stainless Steel tank made for water, as they could not make a tank for Diesel fuel as it was legally not permitted. After that, things changed for the better, for much better, now thanks.
Interested in your comments on stainless steel fuel tanks as I am thinking of replacing the ones I have with custom made stainless discount travel planning steel (316). The boat s now in the Med. (Mallorca). I guess that the regulations as regards stainless steel fuel tanks must be different in the Med as the yard (Mundimar in Portals) was most eager to do the job for me. We have not yet started. I d be interested in your thoughts before giving the yard the final go-ahead.
I m pretty near certain that you do not want to use SS, even 316, for fuel tanks. The problem is that diesel fuel attacks SS welds. I have seen this first hand on a boat that I raced on where both tanks failed at the welds after just three years. We were in the middle of the Gulf Stream racing to Bermuda and the final two days of hard sailing with 50 gallons of diesel in the boat are too horrible a memory to relate.
I consider all elements of seamanship as being one of the areas remaining where man really benefits from paying his dues. We can all point to those who have survived being tossed discount travel planning in the pool as infants (Tania Abey being most prominent in my memory): for obvious discount travel planning reasons, discount travel planning we are much less clear how many have attempted to take big leaps and failed. I, for one, have taken the stepwise approach and have been amazed and humbled by how much I have learned at each of my small steps. Most comments above I fully agree with and they address well the very pragmatic elements of your challenge. In addition, (and maybe initially) I would want you to address (and not necessarily in the forum) your motivation to take such a dramatic leap. It is certainly much more than just wishing to get your vessel to the Med.
Ps. As EU citizen you (wife or partner may) will not have Schengen Treaty worries (staying in Schengen Treaty countries greater than 3 months) but your US flagged boat will be subject to VAT fees after 18 months in the EU. I have just spent 4 years in the Med.
You are right. I gladly payed the required TAX the Spanish Government imposed on my old boat, and right now I have no problems at all. They value the boat s age and the price I payed for it in Texas, and since I had a copy of the checks which showed all details, the amount they levied discount travel planning me was quite acceptable.
Thanks for your interest and concern. Understand that I ve owned, sail

Now I’m not suggesting dallas classic car rentals that racing, and particularly ocean racing, is for everyone. In fact, despite having done quite a bit of it, or perhaps because of that, I have a fair amount of sympathy for those that say such pursuits are only for the seriously dallas classic car rentals unhinged. In fact, on Morgan’s Cloud we have a saying when things are nasty and uncomfortable: “Could dallas classic car rentals be worse…could be racing”.
Three weeks ago (mid-October) we were crossing the Gulf of Maine from Nova Scotia to Maine. This is an overnight passage of about 170 miles that, although I have done it scores of times, I still treat with great respect because the entire track is subject to substantial current due to the world-record tides flowing in and out of the Bay of Fundy. There are some areas, most notably off Cape Sable, where the tides can run in excess of 4 knots, and even a 25 knot wind blowing against that much tide can generate a dangerous breaking sea.
Our preferred strategy when heading west, is to leave Nova Scotia in a calm with the tide under us and motor around Cape Sable to avoid either dallas classic car rentals beating against the tide, a profitless dallas classic car rentals endeavour, or beating with the tide under us, at best uncomfortable and at worst dangerous. (Of course the best option would be running with the tide under us, but that requires an east wind, which at this time of year will likely dallas classic car rentals be a northeaster blowing gale force.)
As we left Shelburne in a dying northwest wind with a high pressure moving through, I was feeling pretty smug at my planning prowess. A bad situation for Phyllis who was, as usual, a captive audience for my crowing. I only got more insufferable as the wind died and we motored around the dreaded dallas classic car rentals cape in a flat calm with no fog . (Cape Sable has the highest incidence of fog in the North Atlantic.)
And the forecast was for the wind to fill in from the southwest, which would give us a lovely reach all the way to Mount Desert Island (MDI), Maine. See how incredibly smart I am? (Now you know what Phyllis must put up with.)
But not so fast. Due to an un-forecast kink in the back side of the high, the true wind filled in at 15-20 knots, gusting a bit higher, from just north of west—just 20 degrees off the port bow when we set course for Maine. Some years ago, in my macho phase, I would have put up all working sail and puked my way (Phyllis does not suffer from seasickness) to Maine into a building tide-enhanced Gulf of Maine sea.
But the smarter, or at least older, John hoisted the main to steady her and motor-sailed, which let us get within 25 degrees of the wind instead of the 50 that we would have achieved, when you include leeway, under sail alone into the steep chop. For several hours we punched into it on port tack at about six knots, not quite laying the course to MDI, but within 10 degrees.
The forecast was still for the wind to back to the southwest and I could see just a hint of cloud in the moonlight out to the south. As we pounded along, I was thinking about the two options dallas classic car rentals open to us:
An additional 10 degree shift to the north, which I was pretty sure was temporary, crystallised my decision: we tacked to starboard. Not an easy decision to make when it meant heading the bow further away from the destination, thereby reducing the velocity made good (VMG), as read off the GPS, t0 only a knot or so.
Two hours later the wind went southwest, a great development for us since we were, by then, well out to the south (see chart above). We tacked back onto port, shut down the engine, unrolled the jib and cracked off on a booming 8 knot reach, arriving in Maine just before noon. The only drawback about my decision to take a tack to the south, at least for Phyllis, was that it put me firmly back in smug mode. (The same strategy would have worked without motor-sailing too, although we would have been a couple dallas classic car rentals of hours longer due to the wider tacking angles.)
I was smugger dallas classic car rentals still when I discovered that another boat on the same passage that had stayed on port tack, was so far to the north that when the forecast dallas classic car rentals shift finally turned up for them, they were hard on the wind, motor-sailing all the way to MDI.
The point of all this gratuitous boasting is that there is very little information circulating in the cruising community about this kind of strategic planning and tactical execution. dallas classic car rentals That’s a pity since getting a series of decisions like this right can make all the difference between a pleasant dallas classic car rentals sail and a nasty slog.
Am I always dallas classic car rentals right in these situations? Of course not. But years of racing—where making the wrong call puts you dead last and the right one in the glory, and let’s face it, us guys love the glory—has given me enough experience that I’m right a great deal more often than I’m wrong.
So, if you are a cruiser (or an aspiring one) that has never raced, do everything you can to get a crewing position on a race boat and watch the tactics used and their results carefully. Even a year or two of racing will teach you more about getting from here to there as quickly and comfortably as possible than reading a bunch of books, or for that matter, this post.
If you are wondering about the red racing dinghy in the photo, it’s an International 505 that we found languishing in the back lot of a boat yard on MDI. I raced 505s for years—before going badly nuts and taking up ocean racing—and can testify that sailing a 505 is simply the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
I think even informal racing, sometimes even with boats you don t know, is a good way to sharpen your thinking and planning skills, which in turn makes you a better and safer sailor. Several years ago in Maine, Philadelphia Sailing Club had chartered a J46 and a J44 with racing keel so the boats were pretty evenly matched as we found out in a crossing tacking duel the wrong way down Eggemoggin Reach. My good friend Bill and I were the two skippers. And, as any time we were on separate boats on the same water principally the Chesapeake a race was almost dallas classic car rentals inevitable. Later in the week, we were coming back from Matinicus and heading for Winter Harbor on Vinal Haven. It was a bit foggy and the light winds were behind us. Both of us started out wing on wing, and were drifting and bobbing more than sailing. I got bored and decided to head up to starboard to take a look at Isle au Haute where Linda Greenlaw (of Perfect Storm fame) is from. I would love to claim it was intentional, but it may have been intuition or an unconscious dallas classic car rentals memory of the weather forecast. Anyway, the wind filled in where we were to the east and we had an increasing to 8 knot reach back toward Winter Harbor. As we converged back toward the other boat, they picked up the wind and we were soon racing almost side by side toward Winter Haven. I had momentum in my favor. Also, it is very, very important in informal racing to NOT get too excited and forget your navigation!!! The J44 had to take a quick tack out to avoid an underwater ridge, and we won handily.
dallas classic car rentals Sometimes taking the cruisers tack can get you to your destination more quickly than sticking closer to your rhumb line. You will definitely be more comfortable. One time on the way to Bermuda, we weren t making any headway and decided to take broader dallas classic car rentals tacks it was the first time I had heard the term cruising tacks to give that a try. A larger dallas classic car rentals tall ship was staying close to the wind. We tacked out and back several times and were keeping up with the larger tall ship, and I am sure we were more comfortable.
Having been bitten by the ocean racing bug in recent years, I agree that there are many potential benefits for cruising sailors who try their hand at racing, well beyond the tactical lessons associated with positioning your boat to take best advantage of anticipated wind shifts (good job, by the way!). Racing forces one to learn (or at least try to learn) how to sail and sail well in conditions that many cruisers would normally choose to avoid sailing in at the light end as well as the heavy end of the wind spectrum; hard on the wind as well as off the wind. Racing boats are usually set up and rigged in innovative ways designed to make adjustments to sail trim easier; cruisers can often adapt these innovations to great benefit, but may not be aware of them if they haven t been exposed to them through racing (or at least paying attention to racing). Many racers are fanatics dallas classic car rentals about keeping excess weight dallas classic car rentals off their boats, and maybe experiencing how much better a lightened boat can sail, or how much easier it is to work on a boat that is free of excess clutter, might prompt some cruisers to consider putting dallas classic car rentals their own boats on a diet and exercise dallas classic car rentals regime. Racers often sail and maneuver their boats in very close proximity to other boats, the experience of which might help cruisers with getting their boats in and out of tight marinas or crowded anchorages, and might help them evaluate crossing situations and collision potentials. The attention to offshore safety dallas classic car rentals issues given by most ocean race organizers is another area where many cruisers could potentially benefit from experience participating in such events. Racing can also just be a lot of fun (especially if you re on the right boat with the right skipper dallas classic car rentals and crew )
Good point that the great lessons taught by racing go far past tactics and strategy. Even after the race is over there are valuable lessons learned: For a couple years I sailed an E22 out of a berth in a crowded marina. The task of sailing her back into the berth without hitting something and doing it quickly to place well in the most important race of the day, FIB (First In Bar), really sharpened the boat handling skills.

The more research we do, the more we realize how "technical" the trip up the St. Lawrence will be. B
I have done most of this trip in various pieces and would very much recommend it - in particular if you have time to visit Newfoundland for a few weeks along the way (it is only an overnight from Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. All sorts of variety to be had. You really do need radar in Atlantic Canada and Newfoundland is pretty isolated (but fabulous cruising) sheraton hotel new orleans so you need confidence to be self-sufficient there.
We're doing research on it. We'll be going on a 1.5-2 year cruise in a couple sheraton hotel new orleans of years, and we originally thought about staging out of Albany (near our house), working our way up the Erie Canal (requires mast stepping), going to Lake Ontario, up the St. Lawrence, around Nova Scotia, down the Maine Coast, through the Cape Cod Canal, through the Long Island Sound and then continuing south along the US coast. The more research we do, the more we realize how "technical" the trip up the St. Lawrence will be. Between the incredibly heavy currents, the large tides and the shipping traffic, we're wondering how much we'd enjoy the trip up the St. Lawrence. We've already been to Montreal (we're only 3.25 hours away by land). Most of the river is fairly barren with activities to do. Our current thought is to perhaps do a run from Albany down the Hudson to the Cape Cod Canal to Nova Scotia and then back again, stopping at different places along the way.

Keep in mind you are going down the St Lawrence which is a much easier trip. Locking downward is very easy and currents in the river only serve to speed you on your way - they are not difficult to deal with at all. With the tide, current a boat speed there will be times you are going 12 knots plus.
I agree that there is not much interesting to see on the river from Montreal to Quebec City. From there eastward it is well worth the trip. Quebec City is wonderful and there is a lot to see in the lower river which quickly becomes very wide
My wife and I are leaving Northern Lk Mi July for Hampton Va, then Caribbean. We keep going back and forth in terms of St Lawrence or unstep and head out the Erie (likely at Otswego). If anyone has done both we would love your input and of course any ideas from anyone that's been out either way

The Erie Canal trip is quite pleasant and civilized and I don't think I would say anything bad about it. Watch crossing Lake Oneida, it can blow up and get nasty even with 2 foot waves - make sure your mast cannot move - especially fore and aft.
St Lawrence/Atlantic Canada is another kettle of fish entirely. Equally civilized until Quebec City (which sheraton hotel new orleans is a lovely place to visit) and then small working ports. Illes de la Madelaine or lovely but Newfoundland is fabulous. Two examples:
1. We anchored at the head of one fiord with an 1100 foot cliff on one side and a 900 foot (heights from chart) on the other. There was also about a 900 foot waterfall with a pool at the bottom - one of the crew had a bath in it.
I think it would be one of the great cruising grounds sheraton hotel new orleans in the world except that it is isolated and never gets very warm. Warmest sheraton hotel new orleans we saw was about 18C, although nights were almost as warm. It is remote and help is not close so you need to be very careful and have confidence in yourself and your boat. Harbours are never far away - probably 5 to 7 miles apart on average. Most nights you tie up a town dock (popn of most is less than 200) because the water is very deep for anchoring.
The cruise you are contemplating is wonderful (NYC, Hudson R., Erie Canal, St. Lawrence R. to Nova Scotia and Maine...and south) and actually has a name. It is called the Down East Circle Route. There is a cruising guide that describes the route in detail. "Cruising Guide to the Down East Circle Route" by Yacht Pilot Publishing.
I suggest getting this guide if you are doing any transiting of the St. Lawrence R. Among it many details, it has good information for playing the currents. It offers data that, when used with the tidal tables, will help you determine (based on your boat speed) the best time to depart any given port. This will help to get the currents sheraton hotel new orleans in your favour or at least not strongly against. sheraton hotel new orleans It is not recommended that small cruising boats or low powered ones do the loop route in the opposite direction as it is against the prevailing wind and uplocking is much more difficult in a seaway lock.
The Canadian Sailing Directions are written for large ships upbound (westbound). This means reading the guide backwards for a starts and pleasure craft information is short on details and no current sheraton hotel new orleans information.
The Down East loop cruise can be done in a summer....say 3 months. Possibly a little longer if you go to southern Newfoundland which is truely amazing. sheraton hotel new orleans There is a new cruising guide (also by Yacht Pilot Publishing) covering this coast. Cruising Guide to the Canadian Maritimes; 2007. It also has detailed coverage of the Bras d'Or Lakes. The original guide that covered the lakes has been out of print for about 15 years so it is great to have a new guide readily available. Pete Loveridge's guide to Nova Scotia is good but again, it is out of print. With one or both of the Yacht Pilot Guides you will be well covered sheraton hotel new orleans with guide books.
If you have a little extra time, I can highly recommend the Rideau sheraton hotel new orleans Canal from Kingston, sheraton hotel new orleans ON to Montreal, PQ but of course it bypasses the mighty Seaway but is quite a lovely route and you get to see the capitol sheraton hotel new orleans of the country (Ottawa) and you dont miss the historical cities of Montreal and Quebec--all of which are highlights.
