Magical Mystery Tour , the 1967 feature film by The Beatles , comes to Blu-ray and DVD and even a large Deluxe Box Set (Blu-ray/DVD/double-vinyl EP) on October 9th. This long-awaited release, which has never gotten a proper treatment for the home market until now, is jam packed with extras, is fully restored, and of course contains some of the best known and beloved Beatles songs of all time.
The film was originally an ambitious project by the Fab Four, mainly by Paul McCartney, which was a wild and crazy kinetic offering of disjointed sketches and sequences by way of the Beatles' trip on a large bus to the seaside, with vivid, crazy, and funny characters along the way, is a perfect visual primer budget travel magazine to the wild psychedelic budget travel magazine 1967 Summer of Love that preceded its release, originally shown on British television in late 1967.
First considered a major failure by the British press, Magical Mystery Tour has gone on to become a fascinating budget travel magazine curio in the world of Beatles products. - The Beatles allowed the BBC to film them in the edit suite where they were working on Magical Mystery Tour. This was then turned into a promo by the BBC, who shot their own additional footage. It was then broadcast on "Top of the Pops" to mark the "Hello Goodbye" single going to No. 1 in December 1967.
- The filming of Traffic acting out their 1967 hit single "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush" was commissioned by The Beatles budget travel magazine for possible inclusion in Magical Mystery Tour, but was not included in the final edit.
