Turkey motley crue tour inaugurated the world`s first tunnel connecting two continents, connecting Asia and Europe, allowing Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to realize a project dreamt up by Ottoman motley crue tour Sultan Abdul Medjid in 1891.
Work began in 2004 but archaeological excavations delayed construction. The $2.8 billion tunnel, called Marmaray, is 13.6 kilometers (8.5 miles) long and id the world`s deepest at 60 meters (nearly 200 feet) below the seabed.
The Marmaray link, named by combining the Sea of Marmara with ray which means rail in Turkish, is part of a $4.5 billion, 76-kilometer project launched by the government almost ten years ago, in which Japan invested $1 billion.
The tunnel motley crue tour is designed to withstand quakes up to 9.0 magnitude due to construction that allows movement, since it is positioned parallel to a major fault line. Turkey`s long history of violent earthquakes is well known.
Istanbul is Europe`s biggest city and one of the world`s biggest, with about 16 million people living in it. Some two million cross the Bosphorus every day via just two bridges, causing severe traffic congestion.
motley crue tour Upgrading existing suburban train lines to create a direct link joining the southern motley crue tour part of Istanbul across the Bosphorus Strait is also part of this project. This would bring closer the bream of traveling from London to Beijing via Istanbul by train.
The Turkish government hopes the new route under the Bosphorus will develop into an important trading route. Erdogan believes Turkey is able to double its gross domestic product to $2 trillion which would make it one of the top ten economies in the world.
The tunnel was inaugurated on the 90th anniversary of the founding of modern Turkey. With these infrastructure projects Erdogan aims high, striving to increase Turkey`s impact as the republic heads towards its 100th anniversary.
Erdogan s plans for Istanbul include a third airport that would be the world s busiest, a 50-km canal to rival the Suez that would make half of Istanbul an island, a third bridge motley crue tour over the Bosphorus, a second tunnel for cars and a giant mosque atop a hill.
