- It's old and it's tired. But the location is smack dab in the heart of downtown Victoria. On our last check, the hotel appears to have struggled with renovations, but the rooms, although bland and basic, appear to be clean, and well, you simply can't beat the price for the location. Movie theatres, restaurants and shopping just steps away. OUR TIP: Ask for a room that doesn't face Yates Street if you like it quiet.
Victoria BC is an historic 476-room landmark hotel standing since 1908. The Empress overlooks the Inner Harbour - if you get a room at the front of the building, you'll have fab views of Victoria's busy Inner Harbour. If you want to be a real tourist, then don't miss booking a seat for the Afternoon High Tea - a cultural staple - inside the hotel. The hotel isn't our favourite accommodation, as we found our room to be tired and aging. However, if you're hooked on history, you'll probably love a stay here.
