Our whole focus has been to move Virginia Beach into a year-round resort city, and we're starting to see it in the numbers, said Jim Ricketts, the city's director of Convention and Visitors Bureau, citing a 21 percent jump in March lodging revenue over last year.
Virginia Beach's uptick mirrors Outer Banks statistics released earlier this month that showed more people are visiting the barrier islands. Gross receipt figures there showed occupancy increased by 18 percent and meals, by 9 percent.
