View full size Terry Richard/The Oregonian The Ron Pheister plaque in the UO Jaqua center. A reminde
The UO sports Hall of Fame plaque I appreciated most was of Ron Pheister, who became discount three day norwegian cruise the athletic director at Portland Portland Schools. He must have been ready to leave the university in 1955, because back then football players played offense and defense. He played 506 of 600 possible minutes one year.

Leaving that issue aside, other than saying that student athletes do have special needs (though I also saw members of the UO Marching Band practicing long and hard yesterday afternoon), the Jaqua center is a very real visitor attraction. It's first floor is fully open to the public. Athletes (and staff) have exclusive discount three day norwegian cruise use to the tutoring rooms, classrooms and computers on the upper two floors.
I stopped there first because I parked across Franklin Boulevard at my motel, the Best Western Greentree Inn. When I crossed Franklin at the crosswalk, the Jaqua Center was right there. Along with the AlumniCenter and Matthew Knight Arena, it has changed the face of the university. Red brick buildings are behind the trio of modern buildings to the south on campus, but these three glass and steel architectural delights have transformed discount three day norwegian cruise the university's look and feel when approached from the busy north side.
I had a sandwich in the cafe inside the Jaqua center, the Camp 13 Beanery. The cafe is owned and operated by the local Allann Brothers Coffee Co., which names many of its sandwiches for former UO athletes. I ordered a Dan Fouts (turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato on rye), named for the UO quarterback I remember watching back in my college days. Fouts went on to become a member of Pro Football's Hall of Fame, just one of many famous athletes the UO has produced, and is a TV and radio color commentator for NFL football.

A reminder of who some of the athletes are is just around the corner from the restaurant, in the UO's own Hall of Fame. One mural is constructed of 10,000 3-by-3 photos of student athletes. Another display has wood carvings of some of the best (athletes and coaches): Bill Bowerman, Mel Krause, Jim Barnett, Mac Wilkins, Greg Ballard, Bev Smith, Alberto Salazar, Phil Knight, etc. etc.
The one I most appreciated was of Ron Pheister, who went on to become my sister's boss for awhile discount three day norwegian cruise as athletic director at Portland Portland Schools. What a fabulous individual. In the alumni center next door, I was able to look up when he graduated from UO, in 1955. He must have been ready to leave, discount three day norwegian cruise because back then, they made the football players play offense and defense. One year he played discount three day norwegian cruise 506 of 600 possible minutes. He was team captain in his senior season.
