It was the BEST time. Renting a house is totally residence inn reservations the way to go for us because our kids go to sleep pretty early (7 pm), and that's no fun if you are all sleeping in one little hotel room. I also like the option of being able to cook (which we did a lot of) to cut down on cost and fatty, greasy meals. Not to say we didn't indulge, but we did eat a lot of fresh fruit and fish on this trip. Hey, it's Hawaii, residence inn reservations that's what you are supposed to eat! Well, that and ice cream!
Monday was Baby Beach day! This is a beach that is protected by a reef, so the waves are a little smaller. Holland's first time to the beach EVER. I am not a fan of California beaches (too windy and cold, even in So Cal), so I try to avoid it when I can. I'm more of a desert and pool kind of girl!
Tuesday was a pool day, followed residence inn reservations by dinner out at Keoki's (Hawaiian food close to the hotels that was suprisingly good!). And of course, more time in the yard, feeding the horses, and swinging on the lanai. By the way, did you know that Kauai has roosters and chickens roaming all over the island? I had forgotten about that since my last visit about ten years ago. The kids LOVED chasing them!
We went to Salt Pond Beach on Wednesday. This is your typical Hawaii beach with beautiful golden sand and gentle waves. The waves were a little big for the kids to go in alone, but that didn't stop the two of them!
Friday was our last beach day. We went to Lydgate Beach which is walled off with rocks to make a pool area for swimming and snorkeling. It was a little like swimming in a lake, but perfect for the kids. Plus, we saw a ton of fish without even needing snorkel gear!
