Virgin Atlantic has confirmed that it will initiate short haul flights between Manchester and London

Virgin Atlantic has confirmed that it will initiate short haul flights between Manchester and London starting from coming March next year. The flights will run thrice a week to break the monopoly held by British Airways over the majority of UK's domestic routes. British Airways bought out all standing competition for local routes when it took over BMI earlier this year. European vacation house rentals in the outer banks Commission had directed British Airways to disband 12 slots from Heathrow to allow competition, which are to be covered by Virgin Atlantic .
Short-haul flights are generally running at a non-profitable trend, a phenomenon which forced BMI in a consistent loss, finally causing it to be sold out to British Airways. A new strategy is underway vacation house rentals in the outer banks of adjoining short-haul flights with long-haul profitable ventures in order to let domestic routes survive under airlines. Virgin Atlantic plans to connect vacation house rentals in the outer banks Heathrow-Manchester flights with its long-haul flights to Scotland.
Transportation giant Virgin pushed for the Heathrow-Manchester flights after it lost its bid in the train network for the same route. British Airways runs 17 flights on this route while facing competition from the train network between these two destinations. Virgin Atlantic is already supporting Manchester with long haul flights to Barbados, Las Vegas and Orlando, and strengthens Manchester's network with northern England. Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic is also engaged in a takeover bid for Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus worth an estimated £545 million. This may establish it with a cemented monopoly for its long-haul flights from Heathrow to Edinburgh.
In light of Virgin's bright prospects, Ryan Air has already approached the airline for replacing Heathrow airport's slots previously vacation house rentals in the outer banks operated by Aer Lingus. Virgin would not be able to retain complete slots previously owned by Aer Lingus, under the inevitably expected decisions which would be implemented by the European Commission to stimulate competition.
