Just returned from a 2 week trip through Florida, USA. We (my daughter and I) landed in Orlando (Sanford) on July 27th. On the airport we picked up our Mazda 6 rental discounted broadway wicked tickets car, which would prove to be our faithful buddy for the trip.
In Orlando we visited the Disney Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and did some shopping in the Premium Outlet Stores. From Orlando we travelled to Clearwater which is located near Tampa on the West Coast. On our way to Clearwater we visited the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge discounted broadway wicked tickets Park.
During our vacation we stayed in motels (Budget Inn in Sanford, Travelodge in Clearwater, Days Inn in Naples and Travelodge in Florida City). These motels are an attractive and relatively cheap way to travel from city to city. No need to make reservations in advance, they all had lots of rooms availiable when we were travelling.
From Clearwater we went futher south along the West Coast and visited Naples Pier, the Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park and Marco Island. From Naples we drove through the Everglades park and stopped by to make a tour on an Airboat near Ochopee and made our first encounter with alligators in the wild.
Our motel in Travelodge we used as base to visit Miami Beach and the Keys. We mainly visited Key Largo (John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park), and did some snorkeling. We also made a trip along the islands towards Key West. On the final day we drove directly back from Florida City to Sanford a trip of almost 450 km, but we arrived in time to catch our flight back to the Netherlands!
Because we visited so many places in so little time it felt like we have been travelling for a long period of time, while we were actually only a 12 days on the road. In the enclosed gallery you ll find some highlights of our trip, later on I ll post more pictures on Flickr.
