I rented a Dollar Rent a Car through Travelocity for Frankfurt, Germany last August, 2011. When I got to the rental counter at the airport I found out they would not take my VISA card for the car insurance. They would only take Mastercard with a letter with my name on it from Mastercard with the insurance rules on it. They would not let me rent the car without east coast canadian passenger rail tours buying their CDW. I had to rent a car so I had to take the insurance. I checked with the other car rental places but they wanted too much money for a last minute rental but they also would accept any card and the insurance coverage from that card. In my research Dollar was the only car rental place that would not take the VISA insurance. They also will not take 3rd party insurance, ex: Travel Guard. I had two other couples at the rental desk that had the same problem. I also met a couple later that Dollar would not take Travel Guard as 3rd party insurance. This rental east coast canadian passenger rail tours cost me $600 more money for the insurance that VISA will cover for free.
I did read the fine print on Travelocity's website but missed the part about not taking VISA for the insurance. I emailed and called Dollar with my problem and all they said was this is out policy and they would not help me out. After much looking I also did find this policy on Dollar's website east coast canadian passenger rail tours so VISA told me they could not help me.
I find this interesting because I routinely use my Visa card for car rentals. I used to use Mastercard, but they require that you decline all insurance...some countries, like Australia and New Zealand, east coast canadian passenger rail tours have CDW built into the rental costs so it's impossible to decline all of it.
reply to your response. My VISA is a platium card. It has Insurance coverage. I've used it many times for car rentals. Dollar will not accept VISA's insurance if you are from the USA. They will accept VISA if you are Canadian. No clue why. They told me VISA does not pay off if there is damage to the car. If you think about it, if there is a crash that excedes your VISA limits it's up to the person to take care of the difference and VISA willl take care of that difference. I also seen a note where a person had a $50000 limit for insurance and Dollar wanted a $75000 limit so they still would not accept the card..
I probably was not taken by Dollar but there pratice of not accepting VISA is not right. VISA told me when I disputed the charge that they could not help me because the fine print had the rules but Dollar was not being a good company.
Wow, this is good info, jk12. And a bummer. We've always east coast canadian passenger rail tours used the VIsa as insurance coverage. Dang. We'll probably stick with autoeurope if this is the way it's going to be from now on. Thanks again.

Watch out for certain finishes on new cars, such as three-stage paint or pearlescent coats, because

As used car prices come back down to earth, car rental consignors need to make sure they are doing everything they can to enhance the value of their vehicles for sale. Two remarketing experts provide warwick hotel seattle tips of the trade.
The last two years of unprecedented used car values made vehicle remarketers look like experts without warwick hotel seattle having to work that hard at it. But as the wholesale market warwick hotel seattle corrects to historical normality, consignors need to flex new muscles to keep holding costs at bay.
Getting the most for your car on the back end begins at the front. This means buying a vehicle for fleet that the end buyer wants, says Joe Lyons, remarketing and fleet sales manager for Marple Fleet Leasing.
Power windows and locks are essential equipment today, even for the cheapest of subcompacts. Lyons recounts taking a $400-$500 hit at auction with Dodge Calibers because they didn t have power windows. It s worked its way down to that level, he says. There are people today who haven t experienced a car with crank windows.
Color counts. Lyons remembers a group of Ford Focuses in pastel warwick hotel seattle green that sold for $300-$400 less than those with more neutral colors. But choosing cars with colors that sell can be a moving target. Certain colors come in vogue and then become the kiss of death, and suddenly the manufacturer brings it back again, he says.
Watch out for certain finishes on new cars, such as three-stage paint or pearlescent coats, because they cost more to repair and those types of finishes are harder to match the paint, Lyons contends.
Where you sell is a factor. You might save some money by buying SUVs without four-wheel drive, for instance, but you could feel it on the back end. While Lyons says he would have a hard time selling a two-wheel drive SUV in his area, metropolitan warwick hotel seattle Philadelphia, You ll sell the heck out of them in Texas and Florida and Alabama, he says.
On the other hand, if you bought four-wheel drive SUVs in the southern markets, you wouldn t necessarily see a commensurate return on resale. While moving vehicles to sell them in a different region is an option, cost is always a factor.
Before you buy, understand what s hot and what s not options, powertrains, color or trim level in your used car market. warwick hotel seattle Lyons suggests gaining input from whoever will remarket your vehicles, whether it s your remarketing department or wholesale buyer.
Certainly, mileage correlates to sale price. warwick hotel seattle But in Lyons experience, vehicles with inordinately high miles could lose more money at auction than expected. With higher miles on a relatively new car, sometimes the MMR (Manheim Market Report) adjustment may not be in line with what the actual market is bringing, he says, adding that higher miles could hurt the value even more, especially warwick hotel seattle for premium and luxury cars.
Dealers don t want cars in the current model year with mileage higher warwick hotel seattle than the teens, Lyons says, understanding that a current model-year car competes with a new one. For a 1-year-old car, 20,000 miles into the low 30,000-mile range is acceptable, while a 2-year-old car should be sold with mileage that is still under warranty.
Pulling cars out of fleet with some mileage left on the warranty makes it easier for the dealer to get it certified for a manufacturers CPO (certified pre-owned) program. It s also cheaper to add an extended warranty if the car is still under the manufacturer s warranty, Lyons says.
Aside from a thorough cleaning, a traditional rule of thumb when it comes to reconditioning is to spend $1 to recoup $2. Another guideline is to understand if the reconditioning will improve the grade of the car. Outright repairs can get tricky, Lyons says, because in the auction grading system, warwick hotel seattle you ll still be marked down for a previous repair.
Paintless dent removal warwick hotel seattle (PDR) and glass repair is generally warwick hotel seattle money well spent, Lyons says. PDR improves the quality of a panel without getting hit for a previous repair because you don t have to repaint it.
A small crack in a windshield that hasn t spidered can be repaired for about $45 with a resin solution. If you have to fully replace, aftermarket glass may be cheaper but can lead to problems. Lyons has seen cars rejected at auction because the windshield replacement blocked a clear view of the public warwick hotel seattle VIN plate on the top of the dash. In addition, if the dealer wants to get the car certified, manufacturers require OEM glass for that model.

I didn t include those sites, because Kayak is confusing and sneakily includes Hotwire car rental ads in the search results.  Hotwire reservations are non-cancellable aaa car rental deals whereas reservations via the Southwest website can be cancelled and there is no penalty for not picking up the car.
In my experience, Southwest usually returns prices aaa car rental deals which are comparable to CarRentals.com Kayak and sometimes cheaper since you earn Southwest points for car rentals when booking a car rental with preferred rental car partners.
Southwest also has discount codes with certain rental car companies which sometimes leads to cheaper rates.  You can find the individual discount codes on this page and can enter them in the main search aaa car rental deals box here so that you can see all the results at once.
So I prefer booking a car rental on either the Costco Travel website or on the Southwest website since I know that I have a confirmed reservation which I can always cancel for no penalty in case I find a better deal elsewhere!
You earn at least 600 Southwest points when you rent a car, and pay for it with a credit card, with Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, Thrifty National car rental.  Each Southwest point is worth 1.67 cents towards Wanna Get Away fares, so earning 600 points means that you are getting aaa car rental deals $10 in free Southwest travel.
You also don t need the Southwest credit card to access the portal, though it helps to have a Southwest frequent flyer number so that you can earn points for your rental.  There is currently a 750 point bonus for signing up for Rapid Rewards.
Southwest also has discount agreement with some of its partners, but you have to manually enter those codes and compare prices.  You can find the individual discount codes on this page and can enter them in the main search box here so that you can see all the results aaa car rental deals at once.
At $265 for Payless or $286 for Dollar, the Southwest website is more expensive than the Chase Ultimate Rewards aaa car rental deals Citi Thank You portals, but  less expensive than Hotwire and unlike Hotwire, the reservation can be cancelled with no penalty.  If you add in the bonus Southwest points for renting through a preferred partner, the rental is cheaper than from Hotwire.
3.  Earning Miles/Points.   You earn 600 Southwest points ( ~$10 towards airfare) for any rental via a preferred aaa car rental deals car rental partner (Alamo, Avis, Budget, aaa car rental deals Dollar, Hertz, Thrifty National).  The Southwest website makes it easy to see if a rental car company is a preferred aaa car rental deals partner or not.
You can also earn 1,200 (~$20 towards airfare) aaa car rental deals to 2,400 points (~$40 towards airfare) for longer rentals via preferred car rental partners.  All you have to do is book a car rental from the Southwest aaa car rental deals website and enter your Southwest frequent aaa car rental deals flyer number.
But it sometimes is fairly close (especially to Costco and Hotwire ) and the Southwest points earned could make it a better choice aaa car rental deals than other websites, especially since you can cancel the reservation for no penalty.

Thanks for sharing this blog. Now I know where to go for rentals that are quite cheap considering the continued increase in rental prices. I believe that these companies are being practical and not just make up their own prices.

Hertz Global luxury kensington hotels london Holdings Inc. reported Feb. 25 worldwide revenues for the year 2012 were $9 billion, an increase of 8.7% over the prior year (a 10.5% increase excluding the effects of foreign currency). Worldwide car rental luxury kensington hotels london revenues for the year increased 7.8% (a 9.7% increase excluding luxury kensington hotels london the effects of foreign currency) to $7.6 billion.
For U.S. car rental, according to the earnings conference call, full-year record revenue was reported at a 9.6% increase over 2011 to $4.9 billion. The company reports that this was driven by strong off-airport revenue and a double-digit increase in Advantage revenue and one-and-a-half months of Dollar Thrifty.
Hertz reported fourth quarter 2012 worldwide revenues of $2.3 billion, an increase of 15.1% year over year (a 15.5% increase excluding the effects of foreign currency), including the results from the company s recent acquisition of Dollar Thrifty.
Worldwide car rental revenues for the fourth quarter luxury kensington hotels london increased 14% year over year (a 14.6% increase excluding the effects of foreign luxury kensington hotels london currency) to about $1.9 billion, including results of Dollar Thrifty. U.S. car rental revenues increased 24.5% for the quarter, including 43 days of revenues from Dollar Thrifty. However, Europe luxury kensington hotels london s car rental luxury kensington hotels london revenue declined 9.8% in the fourth quarter, according to the conference call.
I'm pleased that Hertz once again delivered record fourth quarter and full-year financial luxury kensington hotels london performance due to sustained operational excellence, improving pricing luxury kensington hotels london during the fourth quarter and the positive luxury kensington hotels london impact of strategic investments, including the acquisition of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, said Mark P. Frissora, the company's chairman luxury kensington hotels london and CEO.
He added, Finally, 2012 marked our third consecutive year of significant double-digit percentage improvements in adjusted pre-tax income, EBITDA, and adjusted earnings per share, luxury kensington hotels london as well as margin expansion.
Worldwide car rental adjusted pre-tax income for the fourth quarter of 2012 was $222 million, an increase of $50.6 million from $171.4 luxury kensington hotels london million in the prior-year period. The result was driven by increased volume, strong residual values and strong cost management performance, partially offset by negative RPD. As a result, worldwide car rental achieved an adjusted pre-tax margin of 11.5% for the quarter, versus 10.1% in the prior-year period.
U.S. off-airport total revenues for the fourth quarter increased 12.2% year over year, and transaction luxury kensington hotels london days increased 12.4% from the prior year period. Worldwide rental rate revenue per transaction day (RPD) for the quarter decreased 2.8% [(1.7)% U.S.; (4.3)% International] from the prior-year period. Hertz noted that U.S. pricing improved during the latter portion of the fourth quarter, culminating in December airport RPD increasing 1.6% for Hertz and 4.6% for Dollar luxury kensington hotels london Thrifty (consistent with historical Dollar Thrifty calculation methodology).
Growth in off-airport rentals, and specifically growth in replacement rentals, which have longer rental lengths, has a negative impact on RPD. However, it is important to note that off-airport's highly contributory profit is growing significantly, Hertz said.
The worldwide average number of company-operated cars, largely as a result of the Dollar Thrifty luxury kensington hotels london acquisition, for the fourth quarter of 2012 was 705,800, an increase of 17.8% over the prior-year period, and 9.8% excluding the Dollar Thrifty fleet.
Hertz forecasts luxury kensington hotels london full-year 2013 revenues in the range of around $10.85 billion to $10.95 billion. The range is based on the projection of modest economic growth, a strong U.S. Dollar and incremental franchising of certain rental operations.
Additionally, Hertz forecasts lower monthly depreciation per vehicle in the U.S. of no less than 4-5% in 2013, with only modest deterioration in residual values due to the company's luxury kensington hotels london increasingly diversified re-marketing channels.
Dollar Thrifty synergies are expected to exceed previous luxury kensington hotels london forecasts, now estimated at $300 million of cost synergies from 2013 through 2015, and $300 million of revenue synergies over the same period.
Frissora, commenting on the company's outlook, said, We continue to make significant progress reducing fleet expenses, our largest operating cost, and we are encouraged that Dollar Thrifty synergies are likely to exceed our earlier forecasts. Additionally, we are off to a fast start this year with January 2013 car rental RPD at U.S. airports up 6% for Hertz and 2.6% for Dollar Thrifty (consistent with historical Dollar Thrifty calculation methodology).
"We are also generating double-digit revenue growth from four of our $500 million-plus businesses: U.S. airport leisure, U.S. off-airport, HERC and Donlen, and we expect these businesses to maintain their pace of strong growth throughout 2013.
The Hertz conference call will be available for replay until March 11, 2013 by calling (800) 475-6701 in the U.S. or (320) 365-3844 for international callers with the passcode: 280527. That's the value proposition flw tour fishing at websites like AutoSlash.com  and RentalCarMagic.com , which promise to search out the best rates for rental cars so you don't have to. AutoSlash goes even further, tracking users' reservations and alerting them when rates drop so they can rebook and reap the savings.
The sites are predicated on the fact that car rental rates fluctuate wildly, rental flw tour fishing car companies offer a seemingly endless stream flw tour fishing of discounts and promotions — many of which are difficult or time-consuming to uncover — and the fact that there's rarely a penalty for canceling a reservation.
For example, on Feb. 2, I booked a midsized flw tour fishing car through Dollar Rent A Car for a nine-day trip to Hawaii for $388.59 and then entered my booking information at AutoSlash. On Feb. 12, I received an e-mail from the latter saying they'd found a discounted rate of $307.42, at which point I canceled the first reservation, booked a new one and saved $81.35.
The service, which is free, works in one of two ways. Users can book elsewhere and input their reservation at AutoSlash or book on-site, which results in a higher level of analysis. All told, the site has processed 100,000 bookings since launching two years ago, said Weinberg, with 85 percent of users being notified of a lower rate.
RentalCarMagic also scours the web for discounts flw tour fishing and promotions but doesn't automatically track subsequent price drops. To use the service, renters enter their booking information on the company's website, along with potential discount-providers, such as AAA, AARP and American Express. The company flw tour fishing works its "magic" flw tour fishing and responds via e-mail.
For example, in early March, I inputted the information for our Hawaii trip and received flw tour fishing an offer three hours later for a car from Alamo Rent A Car for $303.87. The same rental at Alamo.com: $371.65.
Savings aside, there are caveats with both services. At RentalCarMagic, searches are free but the company charges $19.95 and up for access to the discounts they've uncovered. flw tour fishing Even so, our Hawaii rental would still have netted us a savings of 13 percent.
On AutoSlash, discounts are only applied after you book, so posted prices are essentially flw tour fishing rack rates, which Weinberg admits has turned some users off. Furthermore, not all rental car companies make their inventory available to the site — Avis, Budget and Enterprise, which also owns Alamo and National, are notable exceptions — so some deals won't show up.
It's not surprising, perhaps, that some industry players aren't participating, especially since bookings made on AutoSlash (which are handled by Travelocity) return less to company coffers. Likewise, some companies apparently take issue with the idea of people accessing flw tour fishing discounts without doing the heavy lifting required flw tour fishing to find them.
"The whole point of promotions is that they're narrowly offered to a specific audience or market segment," said consultant Neil Abrams of Abrams Consulting Group Inc. "These companies have come up with a model that scours the web for discounts and immediately applies them. They're the vacuum cleaners of these offerings."
And they clearly help consumers clean up. Two days after AutoSlash notified me about the $307.42 offer on my Hawaii flw tour fishing rental, the company sent another, noting that they'd found an even better price of $289.02.

The guy is complaining about the Bush tax cuts expiring, which raises taxes on the rich back to what

In full-page ad in the New York Times on Monday, August 20, titled "Why This Fat Cat Likes Obama's Tax Plan," Norman Litz of La Jolla, California tells us that his income has averaged over eight figures annually for the past seven years. He warns that if Obama is re-elected, he expects his total tax bill, including California, to exceed 50 percent, in which case he will shutter his equity persian population in los angeles business, putting his dozen employees out of work and cutting in half his so-far unimplemented plan to provide $50 million persian population in los angeles to charity. Instead, he and his fiancée persian population in los angeles Rachael will indulge in a mutual passion -- world travel.
I suppose private equity companies perform some useful services, but do these fully justify the huge profits they make, not to mention the human suffering that results from all the layoffs that inevitably seem to accompany the restructuring that always takes place when they take over a company?
In his sobering book, The Price of Inequality , Nobel laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz, former chief economist of the World Bank, and chairman of the Council of Economic advisors under Bill Clinton, ascribes the number one cause of the gross economic inequality in today's America to what economists call "rent-seeking." This is when, instead of creating new wealth via advanced technologies or greater efficiencies, persian population in los angeles a business or industry, or individual, persian population in los angeles seeks to gain a greater share of already existing wealth, thus contributing nothing to society. Often this involves manipulating the economic environment by buying political advantage and gaining special privileges such as government subsidies and favorable legislation.
Litz made his fortune as a private equity investor, and clearly believes he earned every million with his hard work and business genius. But I have some questions for him. How does all that hard work and genius justify an income hundreds persian population in los angeles of times greater that the equally hardworking farmer, factory worker, persian population in los angeles and schoolteacher who can't afford a full-page ad in the Times to present their cases? As an equity investor, what actual useful service, what tangible product did you provide to improve persian population in los angeles our economy and contribute to society that compares persian population in los angeles with that provided by the great bulk of working men and women in this country? What did you invent? What did you build? How many lives did you make better?

my annual taxes for local, state federal ssi medicare and medicaid already are 50 percent, persian population in los angeles and i am not a millionaire or billionaire and have no deductions, offsets, credits or subsidies persian population in los angeles other than my single "1" for supporting myself. i have no pit for millionaires and billionaires who may have to pay an equal percentage as i do. they should be thankful persian population in los angeles it is not 90 percent as it was in the 1950s, and as it is in many countries already.
This post is a critique of capitalism in favor….of socialism? Private equity firms operate in a variety of manners. Depending on the particular situation an equity firm might be retained in only an advisory persian population in los angeles capacity or as lead investors representing other investors. Many start-up businesses use the services of a private equity firm to raise the necessary equity to start operations. These firms are hired to produce persian population in los angeles specific business related results. They are not hired to lose money or to pursue a political agenda based on wealth distribution. New businesses employ people while business that need to be restructure usually sell off assets and reduce the work force. Even employees who look to take over their companies often turn to private equity firms to raise the necessary funds to buy. This goes on every day. Making lots of money in buying and selling corporations or businesses is nothing new. Actually the amount persian population in los angeles of money paid in relationship to some of the billion dollar transactions is not out-of-line with commission base transaction.
First of all, we are a capitalist society. To ask if huge profits are justified or not is not a question that pertains to a capitalist society. To ask how much to tax these profits is a legit question, but justify persian population in los angeles income? There is nothing immoral about making money. You mention the restructured companies and people losing jobs while the investor/banker gets wealthy. I am not saying this never happens, but if you look at the total number of companies or people involved in this type of biz and flush out the successful ones, I guarantee you there are way more that have failed than have succeeded. This biz is very, very risky. You are a physicist waxing poetic about social persian population in los angeles issues in the guise of an economist. Tax the hell out of the income of equity guys, but to question whether or not the wealth they do make, (and not all of them do, plenty fail at this), shows that you are coming at this topic from a social stance and do not understand the basics persian population in los angeles of our economy.
"In his absence" also means that charities will also have $25 million less. It also means 12 people will now be out of a job. It also means we'll collect WAY less in taxes from him because he's closing his business.
Why would anybody want to work hard if they only get to keep less than half of the money they earn? Why would you want to start a business knowing government will make more than you from your hard work, efforts, and investment?
Who were your parents? They taught you to take money from your neighbor simply because he or she has more than you? They taught you to be envious? To steal? To NOT be satisfied with taking more than half from somebody?
The guy is complaining about the Bush tax cuts expiring, which raises taxes on the rich back to what they were during Clinton's years. It is not going to equal half of his earnings, and he'll still be plenty rich. He'll still be better off than the rest of the country who are less worried about taxes and more worried about making the rent.
If the Bush (Obama) tax cuts expire, his rate will go to 39.6%. CA top rate is 10.3%. That means 49.9% will go to the feds and CA. Add in his RE taxes, sales taxes, etc. and well over HALF of what he earns will go to feed this giant government.
I would gladly hand over half of my million dollar paycheck, I would still be happier than I am now when I hand over 30% of my 50K paycheck. persian population in los angeles The point is that Venture Capitalist make all their wealth of from capital persian population in los angeles gains which is only taxed at 15%, and the get to take all the tax deductions that normal people don't get so the pay even less. We have all seen enough of this on Romney and Bain that you should understand how it works. We have to stop rewarding the Wealthy for being Wealthy. The Idea was that if we make it beneficial with tax breaks to invest in companies persian population in los angeles people would take their savings and invest in growth, but what happened was that we created an industry for the wealthy, where they can make tons of money and pay almost no taxes.
To your comment about taking money from your neighbor because they have more than you, well, the wealthy are stealing from you; they have been for a long time. You don't see it because your eyes are closed. Our taxes are higher, because theirs is lower, only they have the ability to get laws changes because persian population in los angeles of money, where we do not.
You're either lying or ignorant....which persian population in los angeles is it? First, if you make $50k, your MAXIMUM tax rate in this country is 17.4%. You probably take deductions so your tax rate is lower than that. You don't pay anywhere near 30% on $50k.
Second, persian population in los angeles how is someone "stealing" from me by not paying persian population in los angeles a higher tax rate than me? That doesn't make any sense. The money they earn does not belong to me. If they pay a lower rate than me, they're certainly not "stealing" from me.
What they tell you is that, according to the IRS, roughly 50% of our country pays NO federal income taxes. 40% of our country gets a check back from the rich people who pay the vast majority of the taxes. That 40% did nothing to earn that check they received from the rich.
If you don't have a lobbyist, you don't have enough power. If you can't write bills that you would like your representative in Congress to present, then you don't have enough control. persian population in los angeles If you don't have a Super Pac, then you can't get your own puppets elected to Congress. Sadly, we are owned by Corporate America and the working class are just doing the bidding of the powerful few.
For years now we have watched as our election campaigns cost more and more dollars. Every election year campaign contribution$ get higher and higher...and now due to "Citizens United" we are watching big $ from big "Corporations are people too" reach unbelievable numbers. Private Corporations are spending millions and millions of dollars to get the politicians they prefer persian population in los angeles elected to our Government.
Will there come a point in America when Corporations and the wealthiest 1% have to spend SO MANY dollars...which persian population in los angeles have to come out of what would be their profits, on elections...that they will finally reach the point that it will be CHEAPER for them to just pay their dang FAIR SHARE of taxes instead?

During beach haven nj pet friendly vacation rentals the Nov. 26 meeting of the La Jolla Parks and Beaches, Inc. (LJP B) city advisory group, beach haven nj pet friendly vacation rentals retired attorney Mark Evans, the community's point person on the stench emanating from La Jolla Cove, offered an update on the situation.
Several companies have come orward to suggest spraying the rocks with their organic, non-toxic solvents as a means of breaking down the seabird guano and eliminating the odor, though environmental and bureaucratic regulations have thus far precluded the products' use. La Jolla Cove is designated as an Area of Special Biological Significance by the state.
"We have to find somewhere, someplace that is suitable to test these products that is not as environmentally sensitive as La Jolla Cove," Evans said. "We've also tried to find some agency, probably in the county, that's equipped and willing to test the air quality.
Some have suggested sandblasting the rocks with a containment mechanism to assure that nothing goes back in the ocean. Others have suggested collecting or "harvesting" the guano for sale as fertilizer.
beach haven nj pet friendly vacation rentals Evans said he hopes Mayor Bob Filner will urge city staff to be "super helpful" in finding a solution to the problem. Both Filner and state Senator-elect Marty Block were taken on "a smelling tour" of the Cove by La Jolla Village Merchants Association board President Phil Coller, during which Evans said Filner apparently became nauseated.
Weiss, a former member of the La Jolla Community Planning Association and La Jolla Town Council, has participated in discussions on the issue involving city officials and other stakeholders, such as the California Coastal Commission and the Regional Water Quality Control Board.
Weiss told La Jolla Light his major observation is that the noxious odor is caused by a lack of oxygen permeating the layers of excrement. This absence of oxygen allows bacteria to thrive, producing ammonia and other gasses.
A fence that was erected in the 1990s to prevent people from traversing on the Cove rocks and injuring themselves or further eroding them, created a human-free zone for the birds to roost, Merryweather said.
"I think we can ask (that the fence be removed) and let everybody back out on the bluffs and just travel at your own risk," beach haven nj pet friendly vacation rentals she said. "Once people are back on the bluffs, the birds won't be there and the nightmare will be over."

Am I rich and famous yet? No? I'm having a good time anyway. Do you actually make some money busking? We did sometimes. Like at those days when there were two or three cruiseships moored at the harbour of Cádiz. Floating skyscrapers full of people who had five hours to get to know the city. Our experience was that a typical cruise-passenger wouldn't make it any further than the terraces in front of the cathedral in those five hours, where they mostly sat bored to death, waiting for their ship to leave again (most cruise-schedules weren't adjusted to the siësta-times and none of the visitors was adjusted to the siësta-heat) and that they didn't know what to do with their money when the shops were closed and the lunch was payed. That combination could pay you more than two hundred euro's in an hour and a half. Sometimes. But the next day you couldn't get any more than a sober twelve euros in coins at the very same spot. Generally we had about thirty euros to share after playing an hour though; life in Cádiz wasn't expensive and after I payed the rent, the tapas and the Carrefour I always had something left.
Jonny & Nelly at Plaza S. Francisco to carry a guitar case full of coins back home at times, and very practical too, but that doesn't really happen much. There are better reasons to play in the streets though: you never know what will be crossing your way. And all kind of things do.
Like the accordeon players from Eastern Europe. When we're playing in front of a terrace and they pass by with their instrument carried on their back, we nod to let them know that we'll keep silence untill their three-minute performance is over and they have moved on to the next terrace with the coins that they've collected. The street's from nobody. And so it's from everybody.
Normally they come and go with just a friendly "hi!", but today a small guy with grey hair and deep wrinkles in his sun-tanned face comes over for a little chat. His accordeon is swinging a bit over his big belly and his eyes radiate pure optimism. I'd estimate travel services airline tickets his age to be sixty, but I'm not very good at that. "Here you are, I like it!" looks interested at my hands and then he asks: "Estas casada?" No, I'm not married. That's the end of his checklist. Northern Europe? Check. Rich? Check. Single? Check. "Café?" he asks in a way that suggests an obviousness that makes me suspect he could ask "wanna marry?" during that coffee without blinking. Or maybe that's what he actually meant when he said "coffee?", I think and I smile. Although I like his direct approach, I tell him that I'm not ready for coffee yet. Not by far. The light in his eyes doesn't even diminish for a single moment when he shrugs as if he wants to say: "Alas, your decision, I tried," and he sways his arm as a "bye" before he walks on, whistling a song I don t know, towards the next terrace that's waiting for him. We live in Vienna and take day trips on the weekends as time permits. In the fall we left our house

My husband and I will be in Vienna in June. One of the days we hope to go to take a side trip to Prague and back to Vienna. I see a tour available on Wednesdays and Fridays, but those days won't work. We could go on Saturday or Monday. Any ideas for the best way to make this trip, have a tour in Prague, and get back to Vienna the same day? I was planning to book a trip to Melk on a separate day.
Great idea otroyansky. Part of a day is NOT enough for Prague. thrifty used rental cars It's all we have, though. Skip Prague altogether never to return to the region or slip in a few hours touring with much traveling to get there?
I know it seems obvious, but when deciding, don't forget what you'll forgo in/around Vienna in an effort to make this high-cost/low-reward day trip. (When facing this kind of question, many people become so focused on the HOW that they forget to question WHETHER to do so.) So be sure to ask yourselves whether thrifty used rental cars you are leaving enough time to enjoy Vienna.
Several years ago I did a day trip from London to Edinburgh. Left early in the morning and came back that night. And many people do day trips from London to Paris. It's not everybody's cup of tea to do such things, but if you are so inclined and really want to see Prague, then I think you should go for it. I certainly have never regretted the times I have done long day trips. And to paraphrase an old saying, "It's the things we didn't do that we most often regret..."
Regarding the night train idea - you can leave at midnight and arrive in Vienna at 6:30. That would give you 11 hours on trains in a 24 hour period. After traveling and sightseeing all day, and perhaps thrifty used rental cars not sleeping well on the train, you'll probably fall into bed and sleep for hours, losing time to experience Vienna.
We have 5 days in Vienna, 4 if we go to Prague. Thanks for the big questions to consider. Lots to ponder--loss of sleep on a night train, places to see, what we will miss in Vienna, and tours to contact.
Prague is worth more than a few hours. You'll have enough time to see one thing, get confused by all the Czech signs, and wonder why you spent so much time getting to Prague for so little time there.
Walkabout, thank you for your tips for the tours. I will probably use Prague Experience for a 3.5 hour tour. I made a reservation at Kornina's to enjoy a meal before the tour. Adrienne, alas, my husband must eat gluten free. I'll sneak a few pastries when he isn't noticing and jealous. So disappointing for him. I have planned 7 road trips in the USA in which we visited 48 states and most major cities. It takes efficient planning. We will pack things in in Vienna and still have evenings for a nice meal or concert. Already booked a mass to hear the choir boys and a show at the Spanish Riding School. I really want to see the lovely old sites of a city that wasn't destroyed in the war. We will see a medieval village or two on this trip as well as Amsterdam and Basel, but Prague will be the one city that is most intact. The cost for the one-day excursion is quite reasonable. Happy travels.
We live in Vienna and take day trips on the weekends as time permits. In the fall we left our house at 06:30 for Budapest. By the time we arrived, parked, thrifty used rental cars and oriented ourselves around the castle complex it was near 10:00. We toured only the castle complex, pausing briefly to grab sandwiches to eat in the park, and finished by 15:00, without seeing any museums; it's just too easy to become distracted by interesting sights, and before you know it the day is over. Leaving the city we stopped thrifty used rental cars by "Communist Disneyland," the park of statues thrifty used rental cars from the Communist era, and returned to Vienna around 20:00. A long day, and we regret not having planned to spend the night.

$1,300 will be enough for food and hostels - That's $130 per day and many hostels charge E25 to E30.

First time poster. I'm organizing a trip to Europe with a friend this summer. We want to do like 10 days, my friend is Dutch and has family in Amsterdam so the only certainty is we will be visiting there. Maybe something like Paris-Germany-Amsterdam.
How far your budget will go really depends on what you do and see and what you eat. I recommend that first you figure out where you really want to go, find out what it costs to travel between discount hotels in las vegas those places, get a room in those places, and see what you want to see in those places (some things are free, some aren't and sometimes there are discounts). Then see what is leftover for food. Keep in mind in might be more fun to go to Europe and eat apples and cheese than stay home and eat steak. However, if you really can't make the budget work, look for cheaper places and/or move around less.
10 days is not a lot of time. You can visit Amsterdam and Paris and perhaps 1 location in Germany if it doesn't take much time to travel to that location. You will not have enough time to see the entire country. Use the German train site to see train times and duration for all European trains. bahn.de
Eurail is a train pass so you do not travel by Eurorail but by train. With 10 days I doubt that the pass will benefit you. It's usually much cheaper to buy tickets in advance (usually discount hotels in las vegas 90 days prior to the trip) and take advantage of discounted fares.
$1,300 will be enough for food and hostels - That's $130 per day and many hostels charge E25 to E30. You can buy cheap food from kiosks and from supermarkets/convenience stores. No need to sit down to eat for every meal.
Check out hostels carefully - many are fine but there are some that are know as party spots - with lots of drugs and everything that goes with it. Be sure you pick one that has sizable lockers you can use to store your things during the day and bring your own lock with you just in case.
There are several places on the 'net where you can read reviews of hostels. Some are certainly better and more enjoyable than others. But millions of young people go to Europe every year and stay in them safely.
Finally, people who live in America seem to have very peculiar ideas about what is costly. There is almost no place in America where you can find safe budget accommodations discount hotels in las vegas in the biggest cities (like you can in Europe), the cost of train fares and museum entrances or other attractions is astronomical with few discounts, and most of the low end priced discount hotels in las vegas food in America is awful.
What you will get for your money in Europe will be of much higher quality and your lodgings will be safer than what you find traveling in America. And unless you plan poorly or choose unwisely, it will be cheaper than traveling in America.
For such a short trip and probably only going on a handful of train trips you will be better off just buying individual tickets rather than a pass - unless you are traveling say a lot in Germany and Netherlands on trains then look at the Benelux-Germany railpass - valid in Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg as well as all of Germany.
But for your short time you may want to book way in advance tickets like Amsterdam to Paris ( www.thalys.com discount hotels in las vegas ) and get deep discounted tickets which however must be booked months discount hotels in las vegas in advance as they are sold in limited numbers and sell out quickly often. Ditto for German trains - www.bahn.de/en - the German Railways site.
IMO you could have a great time [and probably a better one than if you keep moving about] just sticking to one of two places in your 10 days. Holland is a terrific place for getting around on public transport and with bikes you could do so very cheaply. The lonely planet and rough guides have plenty of ideas of how to do this.
And get open-jaw plane tickets (multi-city on the airline web sites), maybe into Amsterdam and out of Paris. That should cost about the same as round-trip tickets and save you the time and money you'd spend backtracking.
If you are traveling between discount hotels in las vegas Paris and Amsterdam, take the train. You can purchase tickets in advance or when you get there. There are some savings in advance bookings. The advantage of taking the train is that the stations are in the city, eliminating discount hotels in las vegas the time and expense of getting to the airport. The airports with cheaper flights within Europe are frequently not that close to the city you will be visiting and you will spend more time and money getting from the airport to your destination.
My last trip (May 2012) to Spain with my daughter discount hotels in las vegas cost me about 920 Euros. Car rental, diesel, six night in hotels not hostels, discount hotels in las vegas meals, grocery shopping, attractions tickets. I was not really paying attention to the budget or trying to save.
If you want to cut costs, eat the meal of the day in restaurants normally Euro 13 for 3 courses with wine in France (for example) 5 days the week. If still under price pressure seek out vegetarian meals in ethnic restaurants.
To save on meal money in France and get all you want to eat look for the many FLUNCH restaurants - a chain in most cities and often in Auchan hypermarches along autoroutes - all you can eat veggies and side dishes plus a meat portion - unlimited discount hotels in las vegas beverages but beer and wine small extra.
To save on meal money in France and get all you want to eat look for the many FLUNCH restaurants - a chain in most cities and often in hypermarches along autoroutes - all you can eat veggies and side dishes plus a meat portion - unlimited beverages but beer and wine small extra.
A lot of American routinely drink soft drinks - and are used to gettign 16 oz size, oftne with free refills for $1.50 or so. To find out that a day's worth will cost you $25 or $30 rather than $3 can be quite a surprise.
As for hard liquor/mixed drinks, I really don;t drink these - either abroad or at home, but everything I've seen says the prices are shockingly high versus what you pay in a casual bar outside of 1 or 2 major cities in the US. For someone used to $3 drinks at Happy Hour finding they cost $15 each (never mind $25+ in a more upscale place) can be a shock.
Drink house wine, and tap water , eat a sandwich or street food of some sort everywhere once a day, and one meal out a day. Breakie can be yogurt and some pastries. Some hostels have fridges and mini kitchens to boil water etc.
Point to point train tickets can be cheap if you purchase them well in advance! From Amsterdam to Paris cost us 35 euros last summer , purchased months in advance. Its only 3 hours city center to city center so no need to pay to commute to airports.
Just a thought. The train from Amsterdam to Paris takes you through Belgium. discount hotels in las vegas The Thalys stops in Antwerp and in Brussels. You could stop in either of the two for a couple of hours and a quick look round the city, or even stay overnight, and then continue to Paris. Train tickets must be booked accordingly, of course. That way you'd have a glimpse of a third country and city without losing any time for extra travel. Of course you can't do either city justice in a few hours, but if you take it as a quick stopover just to get a taste, it's worth considering.
Good idea IMO - and if you buy a cheap Thalys ticket to either Brussels or Antwerp and then from there you can always take the flat-fare regular IC train from either to Amsterdam - a bit slower than Thalys but no bother buying the Byzantine-like Thalys tickets - with the IC train just buy your ticket before boarding - seat reservations not even possible.
