Many of the buildings are made with or decorated with the local stone.  I was in awe driving into the city.  Many farmhouses and buildings were built from the stone as well.  Plus, wildflowers were in bloom everywhere.  We definitely have to plan a trip back to this area.  Maybe when the peaches are ripe.
The hotel has a small “snack bar.”  At reasonable prices you can find ice cream and other treats.  Plus they have wine available for purchase.  The patio is a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine or some ice cream after a long day of exploring the area.
This is the most important part for our two youngest children.  The pool!  And, this is a really neat pool.  There is a bridge, discount vacation packages water slide, fountains and more.   In addition, there are two areas of the pool that are shallow enough for toddlers.  And, of course a hot tub too.
I would not hesitate for a second staying here again.  The staff was very friendly and accommodating.  The location is perfect for enjoying all that Fredericksburg has to offer.  Places like this make family travel easy.
Josh called Deadwood South Dakota home for over ten years, living discount vacation packages at a popular travel destination only increased his desire to travel.  He loves to take photos and shares many of them on his South Dakota and Black Hills Blogs.

The Place to Stay : The Old Kasper House Bed and Breakfast, a small campus of colorful cottages set

Looking for a weekend getaway less than 250 miles from home? We’ve found four small towns worthy of such a trip along and five interesting, fun, or quirky hotels to explore florida keys cheap motels them from—no generic chains florida keys cheap motels or seedy Interstate motels need apply. (Wharton, home of the fifth hostelry, only merits an overnight stay rather than a whole weekend.)
So whether you are a history florida keys cheap motels buff, bass fisherman, beer lover, florida keys cheap motels wine aficionado, birdwatcher or antique hound; a reveler in kitsch, an ice cream junky or a kolache florida keys cheap motels fiend, we’ve found the towns and inns for you.
The Town : Palacios is a scruffy but utterly tranquil shrimp port on the shores of Tres Palacios Bay, home to a large population of Vietnamese fishermen florida keys cheap motels and popular among birders for its high count of some 250 native species, more than anywhere else in the USA, they claim. Knock back a cold one and chow down on dock-fresh shrimp at the Outrigger Grill  or American breakfasts and lunchtime banh mis and other Chinese and Vietnamese delicacies at Kim’s Kitchen  .
The Place to Stay : The sprawling, gracious Luther Hotel  is probably the most famous building in Matagorda County. The hotel dates back to Palacios’s long-gone boomtown days, when northern investors flocked in to town to speculate on fruit orchards. There was a time when the Luther boasted the longest florida keys cheap motels front porch in Texas, employed  a full-time florida keys cheap motels in-house orchestra, and over the years it has counted among its guests Rita Hayworth, Artie Shaw, Harry James, and Lyndon Baines Johnson. Those palmy days are gone, and today’s Luther fairly defines the shabby-genteel ethic, the paint often peeling from its white clapboard walls. Checking in to the Luther is to check in to 1947.  Rooms are very low-tech, but there’s a library in the lobby. Grab a pulpy paperback, plunk down in a rocking chair on the porch with a bevvy of your choice, listen to the seagulls squabble over shrimp scraps and chill the hell out.
The Town : Nacogdoches, the oldest town in Texas, is a plum destination for lovers of Texas history and nature. No town revels more in East Texas heritage; there’s the Millard’s Crossing Historical Village and the Durst Taylor House and Gardens , both of which transport visitors to the 19th Century, not to mention florida keys cheap motels the 183-year-old Sterne-Hoya home, which now houses a museum . There’s another museum in the Old Stone Fort  on the campus of Stephen F. Austin university: a fort that never served as a fort and that has been torn down three times by men and rebuilt three times by women. To find out why, you’ll have to visit Nac, and spend a day or two in the lakes near the town or on one of the hundreds of forest trails spiderwebbing florida keys cheap motels the area.
The Place to Stay : NOTE! 2014 UPDATE: THIS HOTEL HAS CLOSED. And you didn’t think Nac-a-nowhere could pull off Mad Men style...The swanky Mid Century Mod (built 1955) Fredonia looks for all the world like somewhere Don Draper would squire a mistress and lapse into some ingenious reverie in the saltwater pool. Some travelers complain about the cramped rooms (especially the bathrooms), but most look past that and rave about its period furnishings, lively bar (popular with locals and guests florida keys cheap motels alike), and lovely lobby, complete with koi pond. The six-story landmark is downtown, a short walk on red-brick streets from the small city’s bevy of mom-and-pop galleries, boutiques, and antique stores.
The Town : Wharton florida keys cheap motels feels less like Texas than a small-town county seat in Mississippi or Alabama; not surprising, because it’s in the heart of cotton country. The painstakingly restored 1889 Italianate courthouse is one of the state’s florida keys cheap motels handsomest, and the town has lots of shaded and tranquil Colorado River footage to stroll along or for fishermen and kayakers to launch from. While the town might look like Faulkner’s Jefferson, the Dixie feel does not extend to the food; the town’s landmark restaurant is the original Hinze’s Barbecue, which is as Texas as Texas gets, as is native son Dan Rather. (Playwright Horton Foote is the town’s other local boy made good.) Oh yeah, kids will love the big green life-size dinosaur placed randomly in a small park near the Colorado, and they will also love your choice of lodging, florida keys cheap motels which happens to be pretty florida keys cheap motels much the only reason to stay in Wharton overnight....
The Place to Stay : ...Namely, the Teepee Motel on the outskirts of town. A rare remnant of the golden age of Route 66-style highway (as opposed to Interstate) travel, the Teepee Motel lives up to its name: guests choose from ten recently-restored, mud-colored teepees. That it stands at all is a minor miracle: the motel was built in 1942 and closed about 40 years later. The Teepee spent the better part of two decades moldering toward ruin, until a local couple hit the lottery and bought the motel in 2004 and brought it back to kitschy, glorious life.
The Town : Beer is not all there is to Shiner: there is also a lovely old Czech Catholic church atop a hill overlooking town, kolaches galore, steak and karaoke at Kloesel’s in nearby Moulton, the famous florida keys cheap motels fried chicken at Fridays, and  three miles east of town, there still stands an operational drive-in movie theater . And yeah, there is also lots of beer in Shiner; sweet, precious beer from the Spoetzl Brewery. But you knew that already.
The Place to Stay : The Old Kasper House Bed and Breakfast, a small campus of colorful cottages set around a gorgeous baby-gingerbread Victorian house built in 1906. The owners will have a basket of breakfast food waiting for you along with the local newspaper when you check in.
The Town : As Shiner is defined by its beer, so Brenham is defined by Blue Bell  ice cream, but there is plenty more to do in this underrated jewel of the Brazos Valley. There’s also wine: the Brenham area boasts three vineyards.  Dining in the area is extremely varied, from the downhome fare at BT Longhorn Saloon Steakhouse and Must Be Heaven, to chef-created Italian at Volare, to the country florida keys cheap motels French menus at La Belle in nearby Burton to the super-ritzy prix fixe daily creations at Forbes five-star The Inn at Dos Brisas outside florida keys cheap motels of town. The Funky Art Cafe is a tea-room that purports to offer food “enjoyed by both women and men,” while children will love a meal at the Southern Flyer, a diner overlooking the landing strip at Brenham’s airport. florida keys cheap motels Pilots of the small planes will often land here, hop out of the cockpit, grab a bite to eat and take off again. Downtown Brenham bustles with high- and mid-range boutiques, gift shops and antique shops; check this page for links to all these attractions and more.
The Place to Stay : Housed in what was built by a Swiss immigrant family as a Renaissance Revival grocery store in 1899, the Ant Street Inn is now a first-class downtown boutique B B, one lauded by Texas Highways as “ one of the most outstanding bed-and-breakfast/small-conference establishments in the state.”   The hotel’s 15 rooms -- themed after venerable Southern and Texan cities -- are wonderfully appointed with Victorian antiques, while stained glass windows and Oriental rugs adorn the common areas. A shaded back porch offers rocking chair views of a lush garden complete with fountain.

Guess what? wrote Don Schoeller. These SOB pond scum jerks after months have out of the blue re-billed our credit card account again so we ask please do another park international hotel london expose article in your blog read by thousands park international hotel london of subscribers in regards to the unscrupulous business practice of Enterprise.
Enterprise park international hotel london is trying to hit me for $550 on a Ford we rented from their Phoenix office. When we picked the car up the representative viewed the vehicle with us but when my husband park international hotel london noted a couple small marks she said no worries as anything under four inches was waived.
However, we drove on some dirt roads so the car was quite dusty when we returned it and to say the rep eagerly went around the car like Sherlock Holmes looking for clues would be an understatement. She found a small scratch on the left rear bumper which appeared to be possibly from someone backing into us as we knew it wasn t done by our usage.
Before one could blink we were hauled over to the processing office and our $256 bill now jumped to $772 of course taken from our credit park international hotel london card account without our authorization. Trying to get through to the representative assigned to handle our claim is impossible as she never is available on the phone but her assistant was very helpful in informing us that the bill for repairing what he even admitted from the photos park international hotel london was a small quite insignificant flaw was over 500 bucks.
Enterprise wants us to pay $440 for damages, $60 for loss of use and to add insult to injury a $50 administrative fee. When I challenged him on how in the world a small dent could cost $440 he said actually anything under a thousand from a shop is a bargain.
I contacted Enterprise on the Schoellers behalf despite having a few misgivings about his case. Many car rental companies have strict rules against taking their vehicle on dirt roads. Also, just because the couple didn t scratch the car because of their own negligence, it was damaged during their rental, and they re responsible for it.
This one had a surprise ending. I contacted park international hotel london Enterprise again, and it verified that it had closed the case. Turns out the problem park international hotel london wasn t Enterprise. It was a misunderstanding between the Schoeller s and their credit card company.
Capitol One never reversed the charge back in October and all these months have gone by. They must have reviewed their files at the end of the year and realized they did not put back the $500 against my account and did not inform me.
So my reaction of being billed again was automatic. In this case, I have to eat some crow and apologize to you and Enterprise Car Rental that they did what they said. It really was Capitol One who failed to send me any info by e-mail or regular mail that this was going to occur.

Some time this summer (2012) my husband I want to travel from Ohio to see the Grand Canyon/Mt Rushmore. I'm a bit overwhelmed planning a trip like this. All our vacations have been in the eastern U.S. I'm not sure if we should take a plane (would leave out of Pittsburgh Int'l Airport) and fly in to a place like Las Vegas or Phoenix, and then rent a car. Or should inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania we take a bus trip. Or a train. We are in our 50s. I want an enjoyable trip and not one where we're exhausted by all the driving.
inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania Unless you really like long, long, long drives, I'd make two circle trips, one of which centers on Rapid City, SD to see Mr. Rushmore, and the other of which centers on Las Vegas, NV to see the Grand Canyon. However, Mt. Rushmore is a half-day visit (at most) so you would certainly be paying a high price for that visit.
We could probably take a 7 day trip. Perhaps it would be better to check out Vegas, the Grand Canyon and a few other points of interest in that time and leave Mt. Rushmore for another trip? I am certainly looking to get the biggest bang for my buck and don't want to do all that travelling for a 1/2 day excursion, so I appreciate your input, Placename.
I personally wouldn't even consider combining inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania Mt Rushmore and the Grand Canyon on the same trip -- unless it was for 5 or 6 weeks to also include several other national parks. They just aren't a realistic 'two-fer'.
In that case you've got an unavoidable problem. You'll either do a lot of driving between the two sites you chose OR make three one-way inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania flights, two of which will involve airports that will NOT be cheap.
There's no major airport near Mount Rushmore. The closest airport of any kind would probably be Rapid City, and the nearest major airport looks like Denver. Thus, you'll have to fly into and out of Rapid City (one-way) OR drive from the major airport to Mount Rushmore and back, then onto Las Vegas or Phoenix -- either flying one-way or driving quite a bit.
On the other had, you can easily fly into Las Vegas (or maybe Phoenix), rent an inexpensive car, drive to The Canyon, view other sights, and then fly back from the same airport. Far less money and hassle.
The obvious inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania drawback -- that you won't see Mount Rushmore -- is a self-made problem. The difficulty in getting to the Black Hills is not something I can recommend if you are ONLY seeing Mount Rushmore. It's only worth the trouble if you plan to stay for several days -- something I actually do recommend, but not at the expense of missing The Canyon and other nearby sights.
Here is a link to a trip we did several years ago. We based in St. George at a timeshare and did over nighters to Bryce N. rim. I would not do that again but would do 2 nights Bryce, 2 N. Rim due to the long days of driving.
The GC is a very awesome sight, but unless you are hiking inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania or rafting it can be done in a day(I would spend 1 night there). I love the hikes in Bryce, Zion, and Arches and other stops along hwy 12. I haven't hiked the GC but I have rafted a portion of it.
Don't try to try to over do it. These places are that great and the longer you stay the more you appreciate them. If you are able at all do as many hikes and other activities as you can. I can almost promise you that you will be dying to go to all of these that myself and others have mentioned after you see one of them.
Now the other side of the coin: if flying in to Vegas, I'm thinking we would want to check some of it our for a couple days. Everyone always says to 'see a show' while you're there. Should it be Cirque de Sole? We're not gamblers. What other points of interest are a 'must see'? And what hotel to stay at?
Yellowstone is absolutely awesome. If I were choosing the Grand Canyon ro Yellowstone, I would pick Yellowstone every single time. You can spend 7 days in Yellowstone easily. Much more than a day in the GC you will need to do some serious hiking or rafting(which is good).
You could do Zion and Bryce with the Grand Canyon. We love those two spots. Amazing. I can't begin to tell you enough to get lodging ASAP, some of the historic lodges in the national parks are very popular and they start to fill up 12 months in advance.
We come from elevation 0 and find that a day or two is enough to get used to elevation, drink plenty of water and get enough rest. We need to take it slow if above 6000 ft , not sure that is elevation, age, or result of not enough exercize in general. inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania We have hiked on every trip we've taken.
Near Vegas are some fantastic day trips: Valley of Fire, beautiful, inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania interesting petroglyphs etc.; Hoover Dam, you can do a tour; Red Rock Canyon, check out the rock climbers; Death Valley, 2 and a half hours away, awesome.
You have 7 days. The Grand Canyon really deserves an overnight stay but not 2. It's about a 5 hour drive from Vegas, crossing over Hoover Dam on the way. After the overnight stay, you can do several things: 1) Go to Sedona for 2-3 days 2) Go back to Vegas and make trips from there, or 3) continue east to Page and then make a big loop back to Vegas, hitting Bryce and Zion on the way back.
Whatever you decide, I would not do Death Valley as a day trip from Vegas, first because it is huge and requires 2-3 days as a minimum, but mostly because it'll be incredibly hot in summer and not very enjoyable.
You need to look at a map - and read trip reports and start a rough plan. Cirque du Soleil shows are great. Click on any of our names above and check out our reports. You will find them very helpful in planning.
She hasn't been to Yellowstone or Arches yet. I'll have to ask her why Valley of Fire is so high. It's possible Lower Calf Creek Falls is low because we were there around noon on a hot day that started early with Devil's Garden that's inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania a photographer's dream and ended with Willis Creek that's also no slouch.
As you've gathered from the responses, they are both lovely spots to visit, but given your time frame, I'd split the trips. The GC/Zion/Bryce loop would more than fill a week. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Vegas and while I might give myself a night, I'd prefer to spend more of the trip in the natural settings.
I would definitely recommend inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania the Black Hills/Rushmore area for another trip. Custer State Park is wonderful (great animal viewing!) and Badlands National Park is very impressive. The Black Hills themselves are beautiful (but windy!).
So many lovely areas and it's hard to cut any of them from the trip, but I think you're right when you say that you don't want to spend a lot of time driving from place to place (and packing and unpacking and checking in). Staying somewhere for a few days gives you a chance inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania to relax and really get in the mood of a place, even if you have to miss somewhere else to do it.
I think you are on the right track for a trip in and out of LV to see what has been called the Grand Circle. Zion Bryce, Grand Canyon. You could add Page AZ for a tour of the Antelope Canyon. A week isn't much but it would be enough time. For Zion stay in Springdale, for Bryce stay in the park or at Ruby's. If you don't want to change hotels then Kanab is a reasonable alternative.
I'm not sure who said Mt Rushmore inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania is good for half a day. WHile that is true the rest of the area needs three or four. THere is so much to see and do there. I love Custer State Park, and the caves, and there are the Badlands and not too far away is Devil's Tower in WY.
The Caravan tour that happytrailstoyou posted sounds like it might be the way to go, after reading everyone's inn of the dove harrisburg pennsylvania posts. Have any of you taken one of their tours? It seems to me that booking a tour like that would take a lot of the guess work out of where to go, what to see, how long to visit, where to stay, ect.
Okay, I also might just book DH and I a flight to Vegas and take a couple different day trips to Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. I was looking at the itinerary of the Caravan tour, and I'm not that's what I'm looking for. There seem to be some reasonably priced day trips from Vegas to explore the areas around it.

It should come as no surprise that the L.A. and O.C. housing markets are the least affordable in the entire nation. That is right, even more unaffordable than San Francisco or New York. Why? Because even though New York and San Francisco have higher rental costs, people make more money. Should be common sense but it should be apparent that people in SoCal like stretching their budgets. It might be the Hollywood allure of “acting” rich instead of actually being wealthy. Fake it till you make it. Hence the broke older homeowners with their boomerang adult-children coming to live back home . Rents are paid by net income. There is no extra mortgage leverage that you can squeeze out of a rental payment. You either make the monthly payment or you don’t. And seeing this data simply confirms that many in SoCal would rather act the role of being rich instead of taking steps to being wealthy.
celebrity cruises shore excursions Keep in mind that the majority of those living in L.A. (the biggest county in the state) are under renting households. The trend has only magnified over the last decade celebrity cruises shore excursions given the boom and bust nature of housing. This is why it isn’t surprising that the volume of new buyers in recent years has come from many outside of the area including local, domestic, and foreign investors. That trend has slowed down but in reality, the economics for those in the area are not as hot and this new analysis from Zillow simply confirms this continuing serfdom trend for native celebrity cruises shore excursions Californians:
“( LA Times ) Housing prices celebrity cruises shore excursions here are high, though celebrity cruises shore excursions not as high as in the Bay Area, and comparable to New York, Washington and Boston. Those places score better celebrity cruises shore excursions on affordability measures, though, because people there tend to earn more than the average Southland resident . Median household income in the San Francisco area in the second quarter was $76,239, according to Zillow; in the L.A.-O.C. area it was $59,424.
What has happened at least in the last few years is that more disposable income is being consumed by housing celebrity cruises shore excursions payments celebrity cruises shore excursions here in the Southland . This obviously has bigger ramification for the region in terms of business growth and where people spend their money. Yet it also helps to underscore the massive number celebrity cruises shore excursions of people in leased cars or those up to debt to their eyeballs, including those squeezing into buying homes.
Ideally what you would be seeing is solid underlying economic growth combined with growth in housing. Yet what you find is a market where people are simply spending more and given the high number of Wall Street investors , more of this money is simply flowing out of the state.
Conversely, renting households have grown . That is the overall trend nationwide and definitely is the case here in California. It shouldn’t be a shock that the L.A. and O.C. rental markets are the least affordable in the nation. It simply reflects an “all hat and no cattle” celebrity cruises shore excursions way of living. Nothing wrong with that. If you want to spend every penny you make squeezing into a house or renting a place that is beyond your means, go for it. I know of people living in fantastic homes near the beach with hefty leases. They are happy doing so. You also have people willing to take on mega mortgages to buy a home. Nothing wrong with that either. celebrity cruises shore excursions But don’t let the status symbols fool you. We have 2.3 million grown adults living with their older parents because for many, they can’t even afford a rental given this unaffordable market. Buying a home is even further beyond their reach. This is why sales volume is incredibly pathetic in the state.
I think many older homeowners are living in what amounts to be a granite countertop, hardwood floor, recessed lighting, and red door stucco sarcophagus . Certainly not living high on the hog since a home with massive equity is not throwing off an income stream until you sell. But many are staying put and eating Friskies and Purina Dog Chow to supplement their Taco Tuesday meal plan. The vast majority are trying to keep up by going deep into debt. Even when some of these households have their act together, they will find their kids going into deep debt to pay for college. So go for it if you want to stretch your budget! #YoLoRealEstate. Go out and buy that $700,000 crap shack since it is clear from this data that people in SoCal love living beyond their means. Of course we all know what happens when those pesky recessions rear their ugly heads, but then again the last bust is ancient history.
Serendipity with the red door stucco sarcophagus comment Doctor. JUST NOW, minutes before reading this article, I had a conversation with myu neighbor here in Ropwland Heights celebrity cruises shore excursions abuout celebrity cruises shore excursions his finances. His SSecurity isn t getting it done and he s dealing with health issues and not enough income. Now he s retired law enforcement so his retirement income streams are likely better than most and he bought his house decades ago. The entirety of the SoCal Housing Market is an illusion. Whether from entertainment and tech workers leveraged to the hilt or retirees who will tank prices if they sell, but can barely afford to hold. I m young with an 80k down payment and more than happy to wait them out.
My current rental is 2K a month for a 4/3 2000SqFt fixer that ain t been fixed. I m benefiting from one of our recent immigrants who bought peak in 2006 for 600K with 300k of his own $ (probably family borrowed) and had to relocate to Texas for employment. He doesn t want to sell and take his losses and Bubble 2.0 likely has him hopeful. I don t know what the next crash will do to him but if he won t sell to me at a realistic rice of $350K (Place need A LOT of work) post bust I m sure I ll have many other options.
The Housing Perma Bulls don t get that the world wide financial system is 3 times as over leveraged as 2007! When the correction comes I don t think the world will stop, but much like 2008 deflation HAS to take hold. There is simply no other way out of this. Bubble 1.0 fleeced the sheeple. Bubble 2.0 is going to rape the specuvestors. I don t see anyway the FED can inflate a third bubble for at least a decade as there are no greater fools that actually have capital. The math is the math is the math.
DFresh, you ought to work for Buzzfeed, I m sure they could use your services for the discovery of trifling celebrity cruises shore excursions top n lists. Interestingly there are gasp cold weather inland non-mediterranean climate, can t ski/surf/sit in traffic on the same day, non-monied Chinese destinations on your list above number 12. And again, L.A. doesn t make the top ten but hey it s with the likes of Paris and London! Since Boston is at the top of the list, I guess it s with the likes of Paris and London. Boston has some great attributes celebrity cruises shore excursions and I d certainly not mind living there but one is not as likely to hear some doucher there espousing how Boston is on the level of London and Paris and then pointing to this list as supporting evidence.
In actual news that matters, this just in, L.A. s long-declining violent crime total on pace to rise this year. I know you can find a way to spin and deflect this in the classic reality celebrity cruises shore excursions glossed-over self promoting celebrity cruises shore excursions L.A. style. Maybe we re holding it wrong.
No one in this conversation really cares about your bullshit metric. celebrity cruises shore excursions Once prices stop going up the Ponzi has tanked. Any middle class or entry stucco shack is selling for at least 5% less than last year s price, and that s IF you can sell it. Your Sophmoric definition of a tank that is Ailey based on trailing indicators might fly in the CNBC forums, but not here. And of UR trolling, you re doing a pedestrian job at best
@guy from seattle we are tanking and you re playing the violin. Your presenting false information based on an unsupported position. Where s the collateral material to support your argument that we re not tanking right now?
The funny thing is they have it pending at the 619K asking (though celebrity cruises shore excursions who knows if that s what they got) yet eappraisal celebrity cruises shore excursions has it at 549K. They re usually closer to reality than Zillow, though there estimates have gotten wacky in the last year as well. The Redfin ad says: Sellers want this SOLD now! Hugh price Reduction!! celebrity cruises shore excursions Looks like those sellers are smart and not trying to fight reality. If this pending goes sold they ll be glad they didn t.
More calm little moments the increasing numbers of anxious real estate agents flyers showing up on my doorstep bringing the good news that this time is now a good time to buy one of the overpriced crapshacks in my neighborhood.
I am fortunate enough to BE rich, not just faking it. Lots of hard work for many years paid off. But I see many people faking it- Driving an S class Mercedes(leased, not owned), renting a condo in Newport Beach, because they like the lifestyle.
Taking fancy vacations that they can t really afford, celebrity cruises shore excursions but put on plastic. One couple that I know well wears the latest clothes (designer only, of course), go to Europe every year, and drive newer cars including a Porsche. When one of them lost a job, they could not make the rent! Income over 100 K, and NO savings.
The Golden Sarcophagus crowd over on the various early retirement forums debate this question endlessly. Short answer is that if you have twice as much money as whoever is posting then you re rich if you have half as much then you re a pitiful wretch doomed to struggle. This view seems to hold at net worths ranging from a few $100K to $10M+.
Rich in the heart of Los Angeles, I.e the best neighborhoods with good schools and safety? I would say an unleveraged net worth of 7 million+ with a good salary of $1.5m+ a year. Very well off? A salary of $700-1.5M, $2.5-7M net worth. Well off: at least a salary of $350K, with $1-2.5M net worth. Anything less is doing OK in l.a, if you compare the standard of living to cheap parts of the country, on a $100K/yr salary.
Question .Good question, celebrity cruises shore excursions we have what I would say a very comfortable life that said rich, for many who coudn t attain the so called rich satus all I can truly say, if you are happy with your circumstances, happy most o

By Christopher Elliott | October 19, 2011 | 2 Comments A s a frequent car rental customer, Parker Mann has endured rental cars canada 18 years of age countless sales pitches for optional insurance. But recently, the hard sell efforts have crossed a line, he says.
“The latest gimmick is to give the customer a false choice with the question, ‘Do you want the full insurance or the basic?’ the implication being that the insurance was required,” he says. “I’ve heard this line essentially word for word from three agents at two rental companies in the past year.”
“Think of it this way,” he told me. “If someone buys a loss-damage waiver and is involved in an accident and the car is totaled, it [costs] you less than $100. Without the [insurance] rental cars canada 18 years of age you lose a $25,000 car.”
Some states also limit how much a car rental company can charge for insurance. New York, for example, caps a collision-damage waiver policy at $9 a day, which is hardly enough to cover even a small ding in the rental, according to Barton.
If insurance is hardly rental cars canada 18 years of age profitable, then why push it? Numerous car rental insiders have told me that they’re evaluated based on how many optional extras are sold with the car, so maybe insurance is just one part of the company’s rental cars canada 18 years of age overall strategy of earning so-called “ancillary” revenues from a car.
I’ll never forget the intrepid car rental employee in Anchorage who, when I turned down the optional insurance, showed me large photographs of uninsured cars that had been damaged on the Alaskan roads.
“It’s always rental cars canada 18 years of age helpful when a consumer knows before renting a car what his or her credit cards might cover or own insurance coverage is and if it transfers to the rental vehicle,” says Laura Bryant, a spokeswoman for Enterprise.
It’s one thing to play word games or use scare tactics when trying to sell insurance, but quite another to lie. But that’s what Fran Hoshiko claims happened rental cars canada 18 years of age to her when she rented a car in Las Vegas recently.

Las Vegas is a popular travel destination year round but there are some peak months spirit airlines website when the ticket prices tend to be higher. However, there are a lot of daily direct flights available so the prices are kept at a decent level. Airport choices
When you fly into Las Vegas, the airport you’ll be landing on is McCarran International Airport , which receives plenty of flights from all over the US. McCarran is a major hub for Southwest Airlines and a smaller hub for US Airways . The simplest way to get from the airport to the hotel would be to use the hotel’s spirit airlines website shuttle. If there isn’t one available, then you can choose between taxis and limousines available at the airport. Or you can rent a car.
Those flying out of Phoenix will be using Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport . PHX is the largest spirit airlines website airport in Arizona and is the homebase for US Airways. It is also hub for Southwest Airlines. There are plenty of ways to get from the airport to the city, including: light rail, city bus, taxi, limo, van, airport shuttle and rental car. Best airline choices
The ticket prices for flights from Phoenix to Las Vegas are quite seasonable. The high season comprises March to May, September to November as well as the time between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. That’s when the fares are quite high. Outside these times the fares are at their lowest.
If you need to fly into Las Vegas in early October, plan to pay at least $133 for a round trip flight on US Airways (Southwest’s rates start at $154, web rates only). By the end of the month, the rates vary between $98 and $119 for a direct round trip flight. Money saving tips
Make sure to start the search with the two major airlines which serve the airports: US Airways and Southwest Airlines. Then you can compare the fares with ones on the discount websites such as Hotwire, Expedia, Travelocity spirit airlines website and Priceline.
Las Vegas is a vacation destination year round although many choose to avoid the summers because of the heat. Consider what happened to John Graham when his father died unexpectedly the day before he was scheduled to pick up a rental car he d booked through Priceline. It s true that Priceline s rentals are non-refundable, but travel companies routinely make an exception when someone flashes a death certificate.
Prior to submitting your request, you were asked to review and initial a contract. This contract contained the travel information you entered during the request process and outlined the terms of the offer, including the restriction that your reservation would not be canceled.
We really wish we could give you the resolution u2 vertigo tour dates you re looking for; however, your reservations are truly non-refundable. For your reference, a copy of your contract page has been sent in a separate e-mail.
The rental car companies will allow for a cancellation and refund in the case of death in the family provided notification is given prior to rental pickup, a representative told me. In this case, notification was after the fact. Sorry.
I m disappointed with Priceline s response. I can understand why they d say no from a business perspective u2 vertigo tour dates they d probably be on the hook for the entire amount of the rental. But every rule has exceptions, and surely this is one of those times when they d want to work with the car rental partner to either offer a full refund or credit for a future rental.

Selecting your next apartment air travel sites can be as simple as finding the lowest lease price, equipped with your standard of features and amenities, in a location most convenient to you; it is, if that’s all you’re worried about.  Even if you think you know a neighborhood like the back of your hand, you may be surprised to discover what you don’t know if you look hard enough. Cities, Federal entities such as the U.S. Census Bureau, as well as insurance companies keep meticulous records on area demographics, high crime areas, car thefts, air travel sites violent crime property crime hot spots, as well as a boatload of information you may find surprising they would even want to know. Spend a few minutes doing a bit of research on your prospective new neighborhood and then decide whether air travel sites or not that deal of a lease is really worth your safety.
First, check out the HomeFair.com website to learn about the general population in your specific zip code.  For example, I just discovered air travel sites that the median air travel sites age of those in my zip code is 37.9, which is higher than the national average. The majority of residents in my zip code have a Bachelor’s Degree, air travel sites and the total crime risk is significantly lower than the cities’ average. Hmmm. I think I did pretty well in my last move!
From there, choosing to move into a complex in a high crime area may mean you’ll have lower rent (hopefully!) but it will almost certainly mean that you’ll be paying extra on your car and renter’s insurance premiums.  Insurance companies air travel sites know the risks and so should you.  The Insurance Information Institute released a list of the ten most frequently stolen cars in Arizona:
Arizona is ranked as the #8 city in the U.S. for the highest rate of stolen cars.  Of those cars stolen, only 66.5% were actually recovered.  There are four distinct hotspots in the city of Phoenix you reconsider avoid living or at least parking your car:
The most frequent area of the valley for Phoenix P.D. to receive a complaint for a Violent Crime is in the neighborhood of I-17 and Indian School.  As for Property Crimes, The P.D. is most often called to 19 th Avenue and Bethany air travel sites Home.  Check out the City of Phoenix Website to view hot spots for other types of crimes.
Remember that the best way to protect your belongings from being snatched up by criminals is to have a good line of defense.  Lock your doors at all times, even when you’re home during the day.  Lock your car doors and keep all windows sealed, even though it does get pretty toasty in there without a little ventilation during the summer.  It’s better air travel sites to have a hot car than no car at all!
Your car insurance does not cover the theft or damage of the personal items you happen to have in your car at the time of theft or vandalism, so don’t leave anything you want to keep in there.  Hiding it in your trunk or under a seat may make your car less appealing to criminals, but if they do, you can kiss those items goodbye and have to replace them at your own cost.

There is no cost to enroll in the different frequent car rental programs college virtual tours so it makes sense to sign-up even if you rarely rent cars.   Award Wallet is a great tool to store your frequent college virtual tours rental car program numbers.
1.   Saves Time.    Signing up will  save you time  because you bypass the line at the rental counter and either go to a shorter line for members of the frequent rental program or straight to your rental car!
You usually college virtual tours get to skip the lines if your car rental program number is attached to your reservation.  This usually happens when you book directly at the rental car companies website or if you include the number while making the reservation in *some* but not all third-party sites such as Costco Travel.
I ve had luck just going to the special booth or line for frequent renter program members and getting them to process my rental even if I haven t booked directly through the rental car company college virtual tours , but through the Ultimate Rewards portal or Hotwire .  I just show them my car rental college virtual tours program card and a copy of my reservation.
2.  No Salespersons college virtual tours Selling You Things You Don t Need.     Rental car staff at the counter earn a commission for selling you insurance and other products.  And sometimes it is annoying when it is late at night, you re tired, and the staff tries to sell you products you re not interested in.
But when you sign-up for rental car programs, you can indicate that you don t want to purchase the optional insurance and that you will bring the car back filled with gas etc.  So you save time at the counter even if someone has to manually process your reservation.
3.   Earn Extra Miles/Points.     You can  also earn miles or points or credits towards college virtual tours free rentals once you enroll in a frequent rental program.  However, some rental car companies do charge a small fee if you choose to earn airline miles for your rental.

If you have the Amex Platinum Card, you also get some additional benefits for signing up for the Avis, Hertz, and National membership programs. Some of these programs give you discounts or free upgrades, but I think the most helpful is the 4 hour return grace period for Hertz.
Rental car membership is not a good thing and skipping lines when renting dropping your car is the worst thing you can do for your wallet. Never ever rent or drive out the rental car before checking everything= in and outside for any damages or cracks or dents WITH an employee present with you or call one to come there let him see and write down any damages. When dropping, have someone checked the car and write down EVERYTHING IS OK .
I rent a lot through Priceline s Name Your Own Price bidding process and have memberships in most of the rental companies they deal with but the T C s of the Name Your Own Price service will not allow one to enter loyalty program numbers. Your article states that some other booking sites also will not accept loyalty program numbers but that you just use your loyalty card and rental reservation at the loyalty program college virtual tours desk to obtain a quicker rental. I was wondering if or any of your readers have had any experience using this technique while renting with a Priceline Name Your Own Price reservation. Will this work at Avis, Hertz or National?
@D, what car rental company would you recommend for those of use under 25 years old and who get hit with the underage driver surcharge? college virtual tours I used Hertz before because they have a promo code to waive that fee. Any other companies you recommend?
I read somewhere (can t remember now where it was) that if you rent a car through Chase s Ultimate Rewards portal, it will make you pay for at least a small portion of the rental with points , thus negating the wonderful insurance coverage that is afforded for car rentals when using the Chase Sapphire Plus, the main reason college virtual tours I always use that card for car rentals. To me, it s not worth getting the lower price for the car rental if I lose the insurance coverage, but I don t know if this is accurate. Does anyone know if this is true?
@P What is the wonderful insurance coverage that is afforded for car rentals when using the Chase Sapphire Plus ? The MMS detailed report on Sapphire doesn t list anything about rental coverage. I have been keeping my Chase United card for rentals, college virtual tours since it gives primary coverage for them, whereas most cards only give supplemental coverage. Sup meaning you have to go thru your personal car insurance first, college virtual tours and the cc only covers what your personal insurance does not. {Sapphire even gave me primary coverage on a U-Haul truck}. Does Sapphire provide primary coverage too?
Yeah Daraius, what s the skinny on cards that offer rental car coverage? Which cards offer what when it comes to coverage and under what circumstances? I know I m not the only one who would GREATLY appreciate the once and for all on this.
There is a downside to these memberships. They do not provide the most favorable rates for those car rental companies. I find that using codes (such as partnership codes with various airlines or Costco codes) provide much cheaper rates when booked at the car rental sites themselves as a nonmember of the elite car rental program. I have even queried some of them about this. Get a higher cost as part of the convenience. And I used to check but never the cheapest rates at the member rates. An upside is that you do get the better cars, condition and lower mileage. But due to higher costs, I take the penalty of going through the line to get the car. Definitely need to comparison college virtual tours shop and not just book as part of their frequent driver programs
I use to rent through Thrifty, and have stopped, the service is horrible, they tried to get me to pay for gas even though I filled it up 6 miles from the airport location, and last but not least, the cars are in bad shape, college virtual tours stains on seats and carpeting, and some have been smoked in. I switched to National and love it. Never an issue, and the care usually have less than 5K miles and have Sat Radio still working.
@Mike S You don t have to pay a higher rate to include your frequent rental number in the reservation. For example, Costco Travel lets you enter your rental car membership number on reservations. Even if you don t have your membership number on the reservation, you can still go to the rental car booth and skip the lines.
What if you don t have your own personal car insurance I live in NYC and therefore do not have a car. Wouldn t the secondary insurance on the Chase Sapphire, or any other credit card, kick in and become my primary insurance?
@Roger - That is correct! If you don t have insurance, it becomes primary insurance. But only for damage to the car. You re not covered for damage to other cars or property, so it makes sense to buy the liability insurance from the rental car company.
Oh man, thanks for clarifying! It seems like I ve been living on the edge for my past couple of rentals thinking my credit card had all the insurance I needed. I guess the saying is true, you learn something new every day!
I m in Orlando, Florida this week for a national volleyball tournament. The parents of all 9 girls on my daughter s team rented cars. One by one they were boasting about their great deal, then I told them what I paid, $82 for 6 days, Budget, not a tiny car, and over half what they paid! I got a loyalty card before I rented, so didn t have to wait on the long line in the airport college virtual tours and went right to my car. Thanks Daraius for millionmilesecrets!!
I made my Alamo reservation through Costco, and beat the line of 65 folks by using their (too-cool!) kiosks to check in. Took a few minutes to verify my info (the machine scans license and credit card), then off to the row and pick out my car! And, yes of course, I inspected it minutely, and wrote down scratches and whatever on the rental documents (Alamo doesn t have a separate damage report form, apparently) and have the check-out person sign that! I also take photos all around the car when I return it; and one showing it in the return college virtual tours line. That shows it was returned in good condition.
Ok, a while back you posted that a friend told you that he handed the hotel check-in guy $50 in Vegasand would ask if they had any upgrades, and he would mention the Presidential or similar, and it always worked. I took that to heart, college virtual tours and during my last car rental I gave the clerk a $20 and said something similar, in Albuquerque. The college student offered me any auto on the lot. I am posting this here, because I figured college virtual tours it would help the clerk have justification if I was at least in their FF program, so he would have an excuse for the upgrade. Hope this helps.
college virtual tours @Roger assuming you do own a vehicle (maybe not), you should have personal liability insurance which should cover property damage/liability, correct? Then your credit card covers damage college virtual tours to your rental vehicle?
I can attest to the coolness of National Emerald Club (separate bus stop at DEN and friendly agents), Hertz (car is waiting for you), Thrifty (separate desk at PHX), and Avis (great service at IAD) Emerald Club was one of the best initially as you pay for an intermediate and pick any car up to a full size.. Hertz came out with something similar though their canopy system where you go right to your pre-selected vehicle is neat too.
The last 2 times I booked a

We love food (restaurants frequented by locals are always preferred) museums, architecture and music. Suggestions for restaurants, accommodations, port tasting tours etc. We prefer kid friendly restaurants in los angeles small, clean local accommodations centrally kid friendly restaurants in los angeles located because we enjoy walking, exploring and using public transportation. Also any suggestions for travel to Porto? kid friendly restaurants in los angeles Train travel will allow us to see the countryside but is it efficient?
Porto is in the peculiar kid friendly restaurants in los angeles position of having perhaps the very best restaurant in Portugal -- in the Yeatman Hotel which is owned by Taylor Fladgate -- and otherwise being a surprisingly poor food town given how absolutely marvelous almost everyplace else in Portugal is when it comes to eating. The good news is that all of Portugal is so cheap, that if you ever wanted to "splurge", the Yeatman is the place to do it, because it will cost you one-third of what it would cost you anyplace else to "splurge." The Yeatman is in an extraordinary location for anybody interested in port wine, and it serves absolutely knockout port and port wine cocktails plus has this fabulous restaurant with an iconic view over the Douro and Porto. There is a tram you can take across the river for sightseeing. If I go back to Porto, I am staying kid friendly restaurants in los angeles there. (I only ate there.)
Otherwise, Porto does better with sweet hotels in its gussied up tourist center than it does with restaurants. Booking.com is probably your best source for that with up-to-date reviews you can read and you can search by budget. Porto is an endless fascination, and not one of the 3 guidebooks I had with me did it any justice. They all focus on the tourist scene by the riverbank, or try to send you out to the flashy art museum. Walk around kid friendly restaurants in los angeles on your own with your eyes open and try to figure out what is going on beyond the parts of town primped up for tourists. It's not at all dangerous and it is quite fascinating.
I agree about the restaurants. We were in Porto for a few days some years back and found it hard to find places to eat somehow--we like simple, kid friendly restaurants in los angeles local places, nothing pretentious. But we found it tough there--not so north of Porto at all.
We stayed at a really funky place a bit north of the center--Castelo de Santa Catarina. It was fairly inexpensive and basic, but pleasant, in a really unusual old building, an old convent. But a fair hoof to the historic center; we took buses and cabs as I remember.
We'll be back for a couple of days this March--I think I'm going to splurge and book us at the Intercontinental, mainly because it's close to the university where my husband kid friendly restaurants in los angeles will be attending kid friendly restaurants in los angeles a conference, and a lot closer to the center.
If you want a great place to eat in Porto go to O Paparico Rua Costa Cabral 2343. Make reservation 351 225 400 548. This place is owned by a young chef and he and his staff are what the culinary world of Porto should be like. Great food, small place, hard to find, and great service. I will be back there next month and I will be taking my partner there for his 50th birthday. It's a combination speakeasy, cave with rock walls, and it feels like you came to dinner at a friends house. You have to knock at the door with the knocker, they open the window and let you in. So amazing and not that expensive considering all of the tourist traps near the river. Stay away from the river restaurants if you can. It's more quatity than quality!!!
For Lisbon, we can recommend kid friendly restaurants in los angeles highly the Avenida Palace. It is in a great location, next to the train station, with lots of restaurants and shops to walk to. See my trip report on Lisbon, for details on day-trips we made and restaurants we liked.
If you like art, there is the Museu de Arte Antiga which gives you a good panorama of Portuguese art through kid friendly restaurants in los angeles the centuries (lots of interchange with Flemish styles in the 15th century or thereabouts). The Gulbenkian Museum is amazing but not so Portuguese it has some very good historic European art and also some fantastic Oriental stuff.
There is a really big choice of hotels kid friendly restaurants in los angeles in central Lisbon now so you're spoilt for choice: it really depends how much you're willing to pay and what facilities you want. A good mid-priced option is NH Liberdade. The Hotel Metropole is nice and right on Rossio square, so is ideal if you want to walk everywhere, but it is a bit poky. Or go upmarket to the Altis Avenida, which has a fantastic terrace.
If you like wine (I mean table wine as well as port wine) you might like to look up Have a Wine Day - www.haveawineday.com they do private day trips to towns with a vineyard visit and wine tasting thrown in so you can pack everything into one day. We did the Evora one, starting from Lisbon, which also included kid friendly restaurants in los angeles a stop at a fantastic circle of standing stones a sort of mini-Stonehenge. I think they do Douro wine trips as well, either from Lisbon or Porto.
I wouldn't wholly agree that Porto is not a good place to eat. I thought the updated Portuguese food at DOP was fantastic and here are some tips from a a friend from there: new restaurant Book next to the Hotel Infante Sagres, Shis on the beach at Foz, in the mid-price range there is Al Forno (Portuguese as well as Italian, like the name suggests), Canelas de Coelho and Abadia. There are also cheap places kid friendly restaurants in los angeles serving tasty local food you just have to hunt them in the backstreets. None of these are in the central riverside area, which really is very touristy. If you want a riverside restaurant, go further out, to Adega Rio Douro.
We had such luck in Lisbon being happy with our meals relying on nothing but our eyes and noses, and sometimes the encouragement of locals, it was just too noticeable when we go to Porto that the options were hovering between touristy and some unappetizing alternatives. We actually were staying on the back streets, higher up in the hills.
I've yet to hear anybody say: "I like pretentious places to eat!" but we quickly ended up feeling that if we didn't start seeking out places with some pretensions -- or at least ambitions --- for delivering quality food to our table, we were going to end up not particularly enjoying our meals. Our food was taking such a back seat to the wine we were enjoying in Porto (and not just Port), we began our hunt for quality restaurants with quality food to match -- alas, too late. Next time.
We stayed in Porto long enough to talk to a few people and visit both sides of the Douro. The terrible austerity that has beset Porto really makes it next to impossible to invest all that is needed to restore Porto's oldest buildings right now. The weekender tourists come in and head straight for the waterfront, and a great many of them want cheap, cheap, cheap first and foremost. There is more money walking around on the other side of the river, and it is easier to modernize. It's not really fair to blame old Porto for getting by on what it can. I hope tourism lifts up a lot of energetic natives and that more and more tourists kid friendly restaurants in los angeles come willing to pay a few euros more in appreciation kid friendly restaurants in los angeles of what it costs to do that in Porto.
One more thought: I think it is a great thing that the Yeatman has made such a spash in the world beyond Porto and even Portugal, getting recognition as being a destination kid friendly restaurants in los angeles restaurant. It helps frame Porto as more than a "cheap" destination. A flagship success like the Yeatman creates new opportunities for others at lower price points but who definitely kid friendly restaurants in los angeles hope to capture some sophisticated tourists, willing to spend more to get quality, if not always top prices kid friendly restaurants in los angeles and Michelin prices.
I hate to disagree with some of our valued posters here on Fodor s, but if I was staying in Porto for a few days, and wanted something a bit more intimate, then I would look at Four Rooms, a small luxury hotel in old Foz, a stylish B B, where the Douro river meets the Atlantic ( www.4rooms.org/porto/index.php/en/) . It's a favorite of the famous Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, kid friendly restaurants in los angeles winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, who stayed there when in Porto a couple of years ago when accepting the prize. And from my understanding, kid friendly restaurants in los angeles he actually influenced the renovation of this small B B.
From Lisbon, there is a fast 3 hr train to Porto. To get to the Douro valley, catch the scenic train from Porto to Pinh o, changing kid friendly restaurants in los angeles at Regua. In Pinh o, you'll be in the heart of the wine region and there are nice vineyard stays and manor house B Bs nearby (a short taxi ride away).
