renting a car to drive to Disney? We have driven travel brochures scotland to Disney many, many times over the past 11 years and have had great reliable vehicles to get there and back. But, our current '06 Oddesey has 170K miles and I'm worried about putting more miles on it. Maybe too late at this point to be worried about that! How many rent cars/vans for family trips?

Growing up we did it once that I remember - and it was a Ford Taurus Wagon that fit 5 people plus all our luggage/cooler. It was a tight fit. Other times we just used the family pick up truck. Keep in mind, we did that long before seat belt laws for passengers and usually mom and dad were in the front and the rest of us (me, bro and aunt) were in the pick up bed with all our luggage and the cooler. One year it was the 3 of us, our luggage, 2 bicycles plus 2 more adult family members. You think the Taurus was tight? This was too. After we rented the car, dad and bro took the train to Disney and mom, aunt and I flew down as the truck was too old by then to safely make it anymore.

I have fond memories of riding in the back of my grandparents truck with my cousins for long trips. Yes, long before the seat belt laws! We thought we were living large because we had the cooler travel brochures scotland full of pepsi and oreos and no adults There is no way I would let my kids do that today.

Ours was coke and things like Hostess Cupcakes and Ring Dings (yes, I know those are Drakes). My Aunt was present but she didn't stop us from eating the good stuff. If anything, she joined us in it Quote:
If it was legal, I would probably let Abby do it. I'd probably even be in back with her because I forgot to mention when we travelled, the bed of the pickup was lined with mattresses and our pillows so it wasn't all that bad comfort wise.

While not to Disney, my DH rented a mini van to go to PA with friends. It worked out well as they rented travel brochures scotland from the airport, O'Hare, as it was much cheaper than the local rental places and they got unlimited miles. They just had to go to the airport travel brochures scotland to pick up and drop off, but it's not too far from us.

Not sure how many miles it is from your home to Disney, but I would just get the car checked out and if it's driving fine, I would take it. We're about 1000 miles away and it seems like alot, but I can put that many miles on my car going to work and being a taxi to my kids without even thinking about it.
We haven't rented a car to drive to Disney, as we live in the UK, but we have rented a car for road trips around the States. One thing I would say is double check that there are no mileage restrictions on the rental cars if you go down this route.

We live in St. Louis, MO and rented a car a couple years ago. DH and I both had cars with 100+K miles on them. It was no problem just make sure there are no milage restrictions, they know you are going ouot of state with the car and you return it with a full tank of gas!
Thank you for all of the advice. I've looked at rentals and it seems pretty cost prohibitive at around $750 for the week + a few days and add about $500 more in gas and I looked into flights and at this point it would be over $2000 for the flights/dates we need.
It is 2500 miles RT and yes, our car has 170,000 miles but it runs great and has newer tires. I guess I just panicked realizing how many miles our Honda has! I started travel brochures scotland questioning it's ability. It has made this same trip many times, the last one at around 140,000 and I never thought about it at all because it works so well and it's only an '06. I think I will get it checked out by our mechanic before we go to make sure it's all good to go.
BTW - I just booked flights for our December trip so we can save on the wear and tear of the car (and wear and tear on my DH and I driving!) The flights travel brochures scotland were $1880 for the 5 of us the week of NYE. I think with the airline pr
