Broadway shows glisten about Times Square with ostentatious signs beckoning you to enter. Amidst all

I have had the privilege of traveling to many wonderful cities around the world. Not without the price tag or the jet lag. The reason I was inspired to murder my bank account and horribly attempt to become an insomniac to travel was due to my frequent escapes to New York. At 17 I was tugging at my mother s clothes, begging her to let me hop the train and head to the Big Apple. I was starving for the lights, the sounds, the rush and most importantly, the art. New York often boasts as being one of the greatest cities in the world, maine vacation rentals condos as it rightfully should. Other cities, such as Rome, Paris, Milan, Dublin and Berlin have hundreds upon thousands of years of history. That factor alone could easily seduce any tourist into a quick favoritism.
New York stepped in as a newbie in comparison, to rise up to become one of the biggest travel destinations in the world for culture and witnessing American living. maine vacation rentals condos The city is raw, real. No pretty historical monuments to cover its personality (because, lets face it, New Yorkers would probably maine vacation rentals condos get annoyed at The Colosseum blocking roadways). The New York skyline is a beautiful, modern silhouette of the older skylines of European maine vacation rentals condos countries. At night, the lights stream through all of the skyscraper windows and out into the world. From a distance, it looks like Christmas lights dancing on the Hudson River. maine vacation rentals condos I would take a breath in and automatically become enamored. It s a collision Mecca of culture, confidence and insanity.
So I began hopping trains to the city that would house my future career. I was dazzled by the sights, sounds and the rush of the people constantly going up and down the crowded streets. I never knew where anyone was headed, but it always seemed very important. My steps quickened, my excitement syncing up with the natural pace. Weaving and bobbing, I could easily spot the tourists, usually lazing about, while the locals quickly sprint in and out of tourist maine vacation rentals condos blockades, like obstacles in a dog race.
Broadway shows glisten about Times Square with ostentatious signs beckoning you to enter. Amidst all of the glowing superficiality and branding on the billboards that encompass Times Square, there is real talent. Seeing a stereotypical, yet oddly stimulating Broadway show gives you the excitement of a roller coaster ride with an odd comfort that is similar maine vacation rentals condos to chicken soup on a cold day. The lights, sound, costumes, not to mention the insurmountable talent blissful took away all of my worries and left me enthralled with the hope that maybe life does have a happy ending. Or at least leaves you with an ironic, maine vacation rentals condos yet laughable taste in your mouth.
The Off-Broadway shows that I attended maine vacation rentals condos were fascinating. I felt like I had entered a special cult comprised of people searching for art that pushes maine vacation rentals condos limits. These plays are the last tangents of performance art similar to that of the 1970s. I got the point where seeing a man pee onstage while he performed a monologue in Russian as simply artistic maine vacation rentals condos expression. Nothing more, nothing less.
I was still aching for more New York. I couldn't possibly get my fill of staged productions just from performances intertwined with the word "Broadway." This led me to Lincoln Center to see the Nutcracker. I found it to be simply magnificent in its presentation. When I think of dancing, I think of beauty. maine vacation rentals condos Grace. Poise. A transformation maine vacation rentals condos and a cultivation of our raw, core desires. For me, it was the release and the construction of a piece all at the same time. Much like New York itself. It channels the class, the beauty and the hard work that is the day to day; always maine vacation rentals condos quickly fleeting, maine vacation rentals condos transforming and changing into something new with every tondue or j'etais.
People watching and the fashion on the streets of New York is one of the things that excited me the most. In a span of two blocks you could see a multi-millionaire maine vacation rentals condos business powerhouse suit walking alongside maine vacation rentals condos someone who resembles Sid Vicious. Someone donning Gucci and Prada next to someone doused in colored maine vacation rentals condos fabric that makes it look as if they just came back from DayGlow. Hungry artists sit with acoustic guitars and sketchpads. Interns rush about, holding precious outfits, coffee and lunch for Anna Wintour. Foreign tongues flitter maine vacation rentals condos about in my ears. The homeless shake their paper cups, anxiously praying that anyone will drop some change into it. A tinge of guilt flows through everyone as they pass these homeless people, I feel the humanitarian compassion surge only for a brief second. It s a sad yet normal sight (now after seeing this so many times, I try to always have some food on me or stop at a convince store after passing them to buy them something). Walking the streets alone could be an easy way to learn how to accept and be exposed to people from thousands of walks of life.
The parks are vast and beautiful little vignettes of the city. It s a quick escape maine vacation rentals condos to get back with nature. Central Park, Bryant, Washington Square and thousands of tiny sitting areas to eat lunch at were my sanctuaries to spot animals, more of the people that fascinated me, and even horses prancing about with their riders. The food in New York is even vaster than the parks scattered around. Anything from 5-star restaurants to Fallafel carts are at the tip of my taste buds. In Soho, the tiniest little maine vacation rentals condos places always seemed to house the best dumplings, sushi or pizza. I ve made it a goal to try everything in Little Italy and Chinatown.
The most amazing, intellectually fulfilling part of heading to New York (when it was still considered a vacation instead of a commute) was the museums. The Metropolitan Museum of Art became a favorite of mine. It is a wonderful maine vacation rentals condos array of art, artifacts and sculptures. This museum seemed to encompass everything I loved: Egyptian history, Impressionist paintings and the occasional fashion exhibits that would make my knees weak (i.e. the Alexander maine vacation rentals condos McQueen exhibit I attended earlier last year). This is a museum that takes at least 4 visits to skim the surface of all its content. Moving through the museum usually ends with a climb to the roof, that always has a revolving exhibit maine vacation rentals condos and overpriced liquor. Looking around at the other buildings, I couldn t help but realize how lucky I was to be standing there, overlooking this gorgeous city after looking at such gorgeous art. This was the museum that inspired me to travel to France to pursue more art gazing.
The MoMa (as the trendy kids call it), or the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, is just as impressive as The Met, but the classic portrait paintings are replaced by video presentations, multi-media pieces and peculiar sculptures. It's a four-floored journey through a neatly organized Alice in Wonderland. maine vacation rentals condos Some pieces made me a bit confused in regards to meaning and others so fun I didn't care to decipher it. Sometimes that is all the artist means to begin with.
New York taught me the essence of proper multi-tasking. It taught me speed and efficiency. It taught me beauty, grace and a bit of neurosis. It's living proof that hard work pays off. But my favorite thing about New York is that it is like a great first date: It always leaves you wanting more.
