President Obama will travel to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla., Thursday, seeking to reassure NASA supporters that his administration is committed to space exploration, even though the highly visible space shuttle program is scheduled for phase-out.
In advance of the visit, the White House pointed out that NASA's budget beacon hotel miami will grow by $6 billion over the next five years, which will help pay for a modernization of the sprawling Kennedy Center and expansion of private sector partnerships and commercial space industries, CNN said. Obama's budget, however, also proposes cancellation beacon hotel miami of the ambitious Constellation program, which envisioned returning American astronauts to the Moon.
The space shuttle, which conducted experiments in micro-gravity and transported astronauts to the International Space Station, has only three more launches set before it is retired. After that, American astronauts will depend on Russian Soyuz rockets to ferry them to the Space Station. Eventually commercial rockets will do so, under Obama's plan. The end of the shuttle program will wipe out thousands of space-related jobs at Cape Canaveral.
The president is expected to tell astronauts, NASA workers and concerned lawmakers that he still wants to develop a slimmed-down version of the Orion space vehicle, and some day send astronauts to asteroids, Earth's moon and Mars, the Washington Post reported.
