My first public speaking engagement on miles and points was at the Ann Arbor DO, so long ago that Ben (Lucky) educational travel services wasn't educational travel services shaving yet. I brought up the subjects of diversifying your mileage holdings in multiple programs and my favorite topic, credit card applications. It was the first time I met Lucky and to this day am glad I did. He has helped me so much along with countless others. It is a good memory for me, and a friendship I will continue to appreciate for years to come.
I recently used some of those ancient topics for our spring trip to Kauai. I live on the east coast and it is a long one day trip with several stops to reach paradise. I have never found AA First Class availability at the saver award level, SAV-DFW-HNL (international config)-LIH. This time instead of bouncing to Chicago or Houston educational travel services or Dallas and then LAX or SFO and then Lihue, I decided to try the trip in two days outbound.
educational travel services Our original routing had us through an east coast hub, then PHX then west coast hub then Lihue using a combination of US Airways and United flights on UA miles in coach (Ugh). Thanks to a schedule change, I was able to change the flights educational travel services to SAV-ORD-SFO at 12,500 each in exit rows. It was my last time with status on United and I was glad the exit row seat choices held past the February 28 th end of status date. For $8.95 each we then took BART from SFO to OAK and got a Hilton Hotel shuttle to the Hilton Oakland Airport for our layover. I'm dumping my Hilton points like everyone else. The 30K saved me about $120 or a value of .4 cents each.
And now, using my Alaska Airline miles, I booked us first class awards at 35K each nonstop from OAK to LIH.  The six hour ride in the headwinds was very comfortable and with an early AM departure we were able to enjoy the first afternoon at the Grand Hyatt, instead of dragging our backsides in at after 9PM. Those oddball Alaska miles finally came in handy for us. In fact, I was offered an Alaska Airlines Business card at the Oakland airport and may actually educational travel services pick that one up again when my next application day arrives.
Did we get the absolute educational travel services best value out of our miles? I really don't care. We are trying a different approach to long haul travel and it worked just fine for us. We dumped some oddballs and made the long trip just a bit more comfortable.
With a diversified portfolio of miles you can open up so many more award availability opportunities, get to try out new products (my first flight on Alaska) and just mix things up a bit. And in Katy's case with a bad shoulder and hips from all those years as an ER nurse, educational travel services they layover was actually easier and more comfortable for her than if we actually flew first class all in one day.
The Ink Bold is a great business card with generous benefits. Not only does this card currently have one of the highest sign-up bonuses on the market, but earning points is easy with generous 2x and 5x payouts in several daily spend categories.
Complimentary annual airport club lounge access makes up for the $95 annual fee, which is waived the first year. Overall, this is an excellent card that can help generate lots of Ultimate educational travel services Rewards points, which can be transferred at a 1:1 ratio and easily redeemed with partners like United and Hyatt.
