What’s different about the just-released California Districts Grade Cards is that these grades weren’t about students. Parents are accustomed to receiving report cards informing them of how well their children are doing in school, yet they rarely receive information about how well their school district is doing in using available statutes auto transport trailer rentals to provide all students with the best educational opportunity to succeed. auto transport trailer rentals This report graded school districts themselves, including their use of federal and state laws enabling districts to restructure failing schools to boost achievement outcomes.
Education Reform Now and the Foundation For Parent Empowerment (with which I am involved), released the grades last week, grading six of California’s largest school districts in key categories of parental options, teacher effectiveness and transformation of chronically underperforming schools.
What do the findings show? Most disturbingly, despite the existence of longstanding federal and state laws to turn around chronically underperforming schools, most districts failed to initiate efforts to do anything.
The highest-performing district was Capistrano Unified, in South Orange County, which earned a B grade. Capistrano auto transport trailer rentals Unified has relatively few schools designated as Program auto transport trailer rentals Improvement – a status indicating student underperformance and which makes the school eligible for immediate transformation. No Capo Unified school has been in PI status for more than five years.
In contrast, 92 percent of Santa Ana Unified schools are in PI; 49 percent of these have been languishing in PI for more than five years. The largest California district – Los Angeles Unified – has 63 percent of its schools in PI; 32 percent of LAUSD schools have languished in PI for more than five years.
In fact, this inaction has persisted for years. It was this lack of a sense of urgency to turnaround failing auto transport trailer rentals schools – by restructuring staff, converting to a charter school, shutting the school and reopening with new leadership, etc. – that compelled me, while I served in the Legislature, to write the Parent Empowerment Act of 2010. Popularly known as the “Parent trigger,” it gave parents of kids who are trapped in chronically failing schools to take action themselves when their own school boards and districts refused auto transport trailer rentals to.
My law has inspired parents to take action and legislatures in some 20 states have debated a version of the law. Undoubtedly, these results underscore the importance of Parent auto transport trailer rentals Trigger laws enabling parents auto transport trailer rentals to reform schools when their own district fails to do so.
Not surprisingly, the grades in the report were immediately decried in some places. LAUSD officials protested that they had improved student outcomes, as evidenced by the 2011 National Assessment of Educational Progress.
True. What they failed to note is that, even with those gains, California students rank among the 10 lowest-performing states in the country. Only 33 percent of California fourth-graders and 28 percent of eighth-graders scored proficient or better auto transport trailer rentals in math. Only 27 percent of fourth-graders and 29 percent of eighth-graders scored proficient or better in reading.
