McIlroy s no natural, however at least not according to Torrance. By 19, he was scratch. I played every minute I could get, he says. When Torrance finished school, he took a job at Routenburn, where, when he wasn t mowing grass or rolling greens, he constructed his swing and deconstructed others . I studied every golfer known to man, he says. I tried to learn everything in the golf swing so I had a good idea how you should feel if I was telling you to do certain things. That s how I learned to teach.
