Sad and shocking news from South Williamsburg, as Dressler announced that they are closing down after seven years in business, effective immediately . The restaurant announced the move on their website this afternoon , claiming that it was unable to come to terms on a new lease with their landlord and was forced to close. The company still operates Dumont and Dumont Burger deducting sports travel in the area, and also referenced some new projects in Prospect Heights and Gowanus Clinton Hill in the near future.
Dressler, along with Peter Luger, Diner, and Marlow & Sons made up some of the great but limited dining options for the South Williamsburg area and was the most grown up operation in the area for a long time. It even got two stars from Frank Bruni way back in 2006, when he called it "food that's sophisticated without being too clever, in a room that's beautiful without deducting sports travel being too flamboyant." The area is now a dining boom town, and has grown to include Fatty Cue, OTB, Bia, Donna and BrisketTown , with Motorino deducting sports travel and more on the near horizon. Things at Dressler didn't seem quite right on recent deducting sports travel visits, with meals there having been marred by poor service and lackluster food. Still, the place was real destination dining in the area for a long time, and the shutter is a big shock to the South Burg.
