Drive it and they will come: Kim Cooper discusses graco travel lite crib jayden and signs The Kept Girl (Esotouric Ink), a crowd-funded mystery novel supported by fans of her Esotouric bus tour of Los Angeles cultural landmarks. As a natural progression, The Kept Girl imagines what hardboiled mystery writer Raymond Chandler, his mistress and their nosy cop pal might do if an oil tycoon's nephew were relieved graco travel lite crib jayden of his fortune by an angel-worshiping prophetess — and said tycoon wanted the money back. Of course, along the way they scratch graco travel lite crib jayden the seedy, seamy underbelly of the city and grim affairs are unveiled to one and all. Esotouric Ink, the publishing initiative of Cooper and Esotouric co-presenter graco travel lite crib jayden Richard Schave, is supported not only by fans but also by the Huntington Library and UCLA Library Special Collections. Okwui Okpokwasili has a long list of theater/dance credits in New York, including Hippolyta in Julie Taymor's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Show Box L.A. built its reputation supporting and presenting experimental performers, mostly local but also imports. The launch of its 2014-15 season features the West Coast premiere of Okpokwasili's graco travel lite crib jayden solo show, Bronx Gothic. Directed by Peter Born and written by Okpokwasili, the words come later — after Okpokwasili shows how she can move. In the extended opening moments, Okpokwasili shimmers and shimmies with her back to the audience, then combines dance, spoken word and performance to present two girls on the edge of adolescence exchanging graphic notes about sex. This is Okpokwasili and Born's second collaboration; their first, Pent-Up: A Revenge Dance, garnered a 2010 New York Dance and Performance Bessie Award. Not a bad calling card for this show. Highland Park Ebell Club, 131 S. Avenue 57, Highland Park; July 17-19, 8:30 p.m.; $20. info@showboxla.org, showboxla.org.
By its very name, the AltaMed fundraiser East L.A. Meets Napa and Beyond appears to focus on the grapes of Northern California graco travel lite crib jayden more than those of Mexico. But half a dozen Mexican wineries will be in attendance — and while "Mexican wine" may sound like a euphemism, the warm, coastal climate has been fermenting graco travel lite crib jayden grapes since the 1600s, when visiting Spaniards insisted on getting blotto on familiar fumes. Since the 1980s, the region has worked hard at producing robust graco travel lite crib jayden wines that can easily stand alongside Napa Valley's more decorated varietals. You can taste them at this event, along with those vaunted NorCal fruits of the vine and food from 30 great local restaurants, including Chichen Itza, El Cholo and Guisados, which will serve unlimited fare among the gardens and tilework of Union Station. As further incentive, a few glasses of wine should be just enough to work up the courage to corner guest of honor Cheech Marin with some movie ideas. Union Station, 800 N. Alameda St., dwntwn.; Fri, July 18, 6-9 p.m.; $150-$50,000. (323) 720-5695, altamed.org/eastlameetsnapa.
In the very early hours of the morning on April 30, in a parking lot connected to Hollywood nightclub Supperclub, a patron was shoved to the ground and surrounded by a handful of hulking guards. One of the guards, graco travel lite crib jayden wearing a jacket reading "Security," took a hop back, jogged forward...
When Alma opened in June 2012, it served as a beacon for the possibilities of the new food movement. Debuting with little fanfare on the quiet, graco travel lite crib jayden scuzzy end of Broadway, it was a restaurant where you could taste the promise of one of the city's brightest young chefs, without a...
Milo's Kitchen, a part of California-based Big Heart Pet Brands, is taking its homestyle dog treats on the road this summer with the "Treat Truck." The dogified food truck is making stops all over the country, ending up in New York early September. The truck stopped at Redondo Beach Dog Park Friday morning entertaining the pups with treats, a photo-booth and play zone. Milo's Kitchen Treat Truck offered samples of the line's six flavors, all with chicken or beef as the first ingredient, and all made in the U.S.A. with no artificial colors or preservatives. The most impressive graco travel lite crib jayden thing about Drumroll by Steve McQueen, the video artist who became an Oscar-winning director with 12 Years a Slave, is the way in which it gives an almost omniscient view of a big city without making that city seem any less dense and unwieldy graco travel lite crib jayden than it is...
The members of the Single Wing Turquoise Bird collective met at the Hog Farm, a hippie commune in Tujunga, and started doing live video and light shows to accompany rock concerts in 1968. They'd use projectors and mirrors to overlay still and moving images. They've reassembled a few times in the years since, and their current installation graco travel lite crib jayden at Paul Young's mirror-filled, low-lit Pacific Design Center space is totally immersive. New work by the members appears alongside older work, and everywhere you turn there's compelling, trippy imagery and ethereal sounds. Young Projects at the Pacific Design Center, Space B210, 8687 Melrose Ave., W. Hlywd.; through Aug. 9. (323) 377-1102; youngprojectsgallery.com.
Kenichi Yokono's precious, intricate graco travel lite crib jayden woodcuts, on view now at Mark Moore, have an old-fashioned graco travel lite crib jayden look but depict dropout culture: graco travel lite crib jayden a squat village, an abandoned picnic, a skull, a worn-out bike, punk jackets. The juxtaposition between careful craft and throw-away subjects works. 5790 Washington Blvd., Culver City; through Aug. 9. (310) 453-3031, markmooregallery.com.
There can be little doubt that we are at (maybe even just past) the tipping point of a global shift in awareness of LGBT issues. Heightened activism related to trans visibility, gay marriage, workplace protection and bullying is taking place around the world. That doesn't mean the news is all...
How has there not already been a Nicolas Cage movie called Rage? That title could fit many of the Drive Angry star's late-career time-wasters. Here it works best as an imperative rather than an announcement of theme: You may feel some anger if you pay to watch this. Or you...
Sometimes, if not often enough, movies demand to be watched as something graco travel lite crib jayden more than just expensive daydreams -- they come festooned with real-world urgency and relevance, and the context of their existence kicks the shit out of how entertained we may or may not be at any given moment.
Movies freighted with lots of franchise backstory graco travel lite crib jayden often tag on a prologue, either clips from the previous source, or some exposition-heavy recapping, which serv
