If you haven't sorted out your summer vacation plans yet, consider Gda sk, Poland. This beautiful city along the Baltic sea is the birthplace of the Solidarity movement and home to the largest brick Gothic castle in the world built by the Teutonic Knights -- Malbork Castle.
I second Gda sk as a wonderful place to visit. I ve been there twice, the second time staying with cousins in the charming outlying community of Grbainy-Zameczek, in the heart of the Kujawy, rich, fertile lowlands of the Wis a (Vistula) river. From Gda sk, of course you need to visit Malbork-it is very impressive. Take a journey along the Baltic to Frombork, home of an impressive church/castle (make sure you go up to the Cathedral belfry and take in the view over the Baltic and nearby areas). Go to B domin and visit the meusuem of the Polish National Anthem. J�zef Wybicki, who wrote it, was born there. Dont forget to see the Upside Down House, and see the bridge and museum in Tczew. And then of course, there s all the great sites in Gdansk and the Trojmiasto military discounted airline tickets area (the three cities, Gda sk, Gdynia, and Sopot). If you are lucky, maybe you ll be there in August and experience St. Dominik s Fair!
