We were greeted by an extremely courteous front desk clerk who welcomed us and promptly found our reservation. Minutes later the front office manager Christina Keuter introduced herself, greeted us warmly by name, and welcomed us to the hotel.
She led us to the expansive Peacock Alley while describing the hotel's layout and services, including dining hours and some of the amenities. Gorgeously decorated in regal style, with low upholstered armchairs and comfortable sofas, we learned that Peacock Alley is inspired by the grand social promenade that connected the Waldorf and Astoria hotels in New York, and that this particular location was converted from the historical Caledonian Railway Station. The original dimensions of the space were preserved, leaving it very open and inviting. On one interior wall hangs the clock from the original station, which survived the station fire of 1890.
A harpist played soothing music while we leisurely drank our coffee. Christina returned after one half hour to announce that our room was ready. She led us there, continuing to describe the hotel's amenities, such as the spa location inn at mission bay and hours. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and tastefully decorated with traditional Scottish inn at mission bay motifs, such as wall art depicting local architecture and trimmings with a Scottish thistle graphic, the ancient Celtic symbol of nobility of character.
The real highlight was the stunning inn at mission bay view from the window of Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street running through the center of Old Town. Some of the nice touches included designer chocolates and fruit on the cocktail table, and soothing, welcoming music playing inn at mission bay from the radio iPod-dock. The spacious bathroom had two vanities, and attractive floor and shower tile. Bathrobes and slippers hung invitingly on the back of the door.
Situated in Edinburgh's Medieval Old Town, the Caledonian is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its historic authenticity has been carefully preserved during extensive refurbishment in 2009 when it reopened as a member of Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts.
At the west end of Princes inn at mission bay Street and walking distance to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile, the Caledonian combines the best of the old and new. Tradition and modern technology meet for ultimate convenience and comfort. During refurbishment, the original space and character were maintained, carefully preserving its regal décor, arched windows inn at mission bay and wide corridors and staircases. A/C is available throughout the hotel, a rarity in the area, and wireless Internet and lighting by fiber-optic cable—invented nearby in Coldstream, Scotland are examples of the modern updates augmenting the hotel's traditional elegance.
Fine dining at the Pompadour by Galvin restaurant is celebrated for the "best tables" in Edinburgh. The French cuisine by Chris and Jeff Galvin here and at the chic but informal Galvin Brasserie De Luxe enjoys a world-renowned reputation of excellence.
Rooms at the Caledonian are characterized by simple elegance and charm. Each of the luxurious 241 rooms has been uniquely renovated using the finest fabrics and furniture. Many boast extensive views over the city, including spectacular views of the castle.
Guests are invited to take advantage of the luxury Guerlain Spa and well-equipped fitness area and lap pool. The Guerlain Spa Edinburgh is modeled on its Champs Elysees counterpart, with a wide array of beauty and skincare services, massage, therapies and grooming. There are six luxurious treatment rooms, 24-hour inn at mission bay fitness center, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and bubble pool. The spacious fitness center has a host of modern equipment, free towels and water, and available personal training.
Across from the front entrance to the hotel a tramline is currently under construction, scheduled for completion this fall. It will run from Edinburgh Airport to the end of Princes Street. The Caledonian is the only major hotel along the route.
With a long tradition of elegance and sophistication, the Caledonian leaves no single detail to chance. The proprietors frequently ask their guests and patrons what they want from the hotel and respond accordingly. Pictures on the walls bear witness to the roster of guests hosted by the Caledonian including royalty from around the world, and celebrities from Roy Rogers to Sean Connery.
We enjoyed the royal treatment throughout the duration inn at mission bay of our stay. A hotel of unparalleled splendor and refinement, the Caledonian is the perfect setting to complement the inimitable and unmatched exquisiteness of Edinburgh.
