I don't wish Tom Cruise would retire. I just wish Tom Cruise would do something different, is all. This INTENSE LEADING MAN schtick is beyond tired. We're now in the third decade of Tom Cruise willing himself into an action hero mode, and everything about his acting style has become so aggressive that it's off-putting . Sometimes all inclusive travel with islands vacations a director can use Cruise to his best ability Brad Bird's Mission: Impossible all inclusive travel with islands vacations movie was incredibly entertaining because it didn't force Cruise to even try anything outside his comfort zone but for the most part, his movies are highly generic. He's got such an iron-fisted control over every aspect of the movie-making process at this point that Cruise all inclusive travel with islands vacations overrides most directors and forces them to put his will up on the screen. Cruise movies are always about so-called all inclusive travel with islands vacations perfect men, doing things perfectly. Who, outside of Ayn Rand, thinks that's an entertaining film? And how much more money does Tom Cruise need?
I'd love to see Cruise, at age 51, try something new. Something smaller. Something about a perfect man who finally failed. Something where he plays a small-town loser who thinks he's the greatest man alive. Something where he has to come to term with his flaws, in a small supporting role. Something where he doesn't have to pretend to care about wooing a love interest. Why does he have to keep doing the same thing over and over? How does he get himself out of bed to make the same movie every morning ? In that respect, this trailer for Edge of Tomorrow maybe represents Tom Cruise's life better than most roles: He's stuck in a time loop of his own devising, acting out blurry action scenes over and over again for some unknown purpose.
Type Tom Cruise into Youtube, and the first thing you get is Oprah. If Paul Constant decides not to grow old writing for The Stranger 10 years from now, there's dozens of avenues all inclusive travel with islands vacations for him. Writing for Oprah, People Magazine, AOL, the list goes on.
start with The Stranger all inclusive travel with islands vacations continually bumbling over its own double standards, then go from there. I give them the benefit of the doubt by saying The Stranger is conscious of their own double standards, but there is the very real possibility that they are oblivious.
I was going to bring up War of the Worlds, about a divorced everyman going through the motions, who goes up against overwhelming forces, only to "win' because the enemy falls apart and dies through no action of Cruise's character. But that was several years ago.
Paul's right. One of my favorite Tom Cruise roles was in Magnolia. He played such an abrasive asshole, but he was exactly what the role demanded. It was really really entertaining (although maybe he was just playing himself).
this is a pretty damn good book - "All You Need Is Kill" by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, and would have been a better movie if the original grab for it that included Brad Pitt in the lead had come off successfully. . .
I've always thought that his performance in The Colour of Money proved his ability as an actor, but I now suspect that he is so dim that he thought all inclusive travel with islands vacations that was a "perfect man" role and was just playing it straight. Sigh...
He used to be in good movies. Eyes Wide Shut, Vanilla Sky, Rain Man. When he plays the role of an egotistical all inclusive travel with islands vacations asshole who has to come to terms with his inability to control the world, he fucking nails it.
It's a huge pet peeve for me that Hollywood insists on giving almost every single movie a romantic subplot. I have seen a lot of movies that would have been significantly better if they'd just axed the bland, formulaic, irrelevant romance all inclusive travel with islands vacations and stuck with the core concept.
