Exciting news was released this week in the city of Detroit. A new boutique hotel will be built out of shipping containers. The project is called “Collision Works” and the breaking ground ceremony is planned for 2013. Plans for the hotel’s construction are part of a larger rejuvenation of Detroit as the economy gradually stabilizes in the United States. The innovative hotel is a symbol of regrowth in the city.
Shel Kimen, cheap hotels south beach founder of the Collision Works Project, has chosen to work with architects at KOOP AM for both the design and construction. One of these architects, Steven Flum, drew up plans for a storage container development for Woodbridge. Although these 2007 plans were never seen to fruitation, Flum is still hard at work on modular home construction and design. Kimen wrote on the blog for the project: “We’ll be using the project as an opportunity to teach local builders and designers about the process.”
The Collision Works hotel will have 24-36 rooms along with large spaces for events. Kimen is in negotiations to purchase a build site in Eastern Market. The conceptual renderings by Corrissa Leveille show a bright green and orange cheap hotels south beach building with multiple windows and a slanted roof. The contemporary building is set near a waterway in Detroit.
