ESPN Chicago s Nick Friedell reports that while Rose was disappointed at missing out on the team outing, it was wiser for him to get his rest and receive treatment as opposed to taking a White House tour.
It was more of, this is a business trip, Rose said. And I took it that way. Don t get me wrong, any visit to The White House is great. But I took this trip as a business trip and just resting and getting off my feet.
Rose has appeared in 26 of Chicago s 36 games this season, averaging 28.8 minutes, 16.8 points and 4.9 assists per game, all below his career averages in those statistical categories, although his minutes have been up of late. Rose s dedication to rest and treatment is part of his quest to stay healthy following a stretch mostly decimated by injuries, including missing the 2012-13 season in its entirety.
The dynamic point guard came under fire earlier this season for comments he made regarding how he would try to manage himself this season and beyond to make sure he s able to enjoy life after basketball.

Rose, when reacting to the media firestorm ignited by his comments, said he could care less about any criticism about his concerns for his long-term health, saying the backlash comes with the territory.
With all that in mind, Rose simply is trying to take care of his body without missing games. Even the most vocal critics of Rose shouldn t have too much to say about him skipping out on the White House tour. But that does not mean they won t say something about it.
