…came to a halt last week when Indigo's reps pulled their request for a "weekday entertainment license," after being notified that such a license is prohibited by Newton's noise and entertainment regulations.
In a report in today's Boston Globe Richard Chmielinski, the assistant city solicitor said, " Newton hotels in midtown manhattan officials would have to amend, modify, or repeal sections of the city's regulations, in order to give Indigo , the permission it seeks to provide recorded or live music, dancing, use of an amplification system, hotels in midtown manhattan and televisions on its outdoor pool deck."
This came as a bit of a shock to the Indigo folks who had been meeting with Newton's licensing board on this matter hotels in midtown manhattan for almost 2 months , and had been following the board's requests to take further actions surrounding their license request.
Indigo's hotels in midtown manhattan plans had  met with strong resistance by hotel neighbors who had been annoyed by a grand opening party held in June at Hotel Indigo which they said raised concerns about parking, trash, noise, drunk driving, and other assorted issues.
Following a year long renovation the Indigo, which is part of InterContinental Hotels, offers a heated outdoor pool, hot tub and relaxation deck, firepits, and cabanas. Cabanas are outfitted with LCD flat-panel televisions, and deck area heating provides extended seasonal enjoyment.
