I am flying into Boston the evening of August 28. I have one day until I fly out on the evening of the 29th. Are there any inexpensive/decent hotels near the airport? If we want to take a non-walking tour of Boston on the 29th, would you recommend the Beantown Trolley, the Duck Tour, or something else? We'd want to start in the morning and end in time to get back to the hotel, check out, and head for the airpo Thanks for your help with this.
Beantown of other trolley for a 1-day visit. Duck Tour is a 1-hour fun ride, but I do not think meets your purpose. Trolley will provide transportation, somewhat cheesy overview of the city and history, and the opportunity to stop at a few places in your allotted time. I would check out route and stops ahead of time and plan where you want to stop for some sightseeing ahead of time.
You are going to have to checkout of hotel before canadian airlines international the evening, canadian airlines international but any hotel will store your luggage for you. Check out Hilton at the airport - not likely to be cheap, but do not stay in Chelsea or Revere or anyplace else "near" airport. Hilton is on airport loop bus - the others will involve a taxi or hope their shuttle is running and are not near public transit.
Last I looked, Priceline had two **** hotels at the airport: the Hilton and the Hyatt. Both can be had fairly cheaply. The Hilton is within walking distance of most of the terminals, canadian airlines international and the Hyatt has a shuttle to the terminals and the water taxi to Boston right outside the door.
If you want a non-walking tour, is it the physical aspect of walking that is a problem? Boston is very small. If you like history, you can visit the Park Service center on the Common near the Park Square MBTA station and get a schedule of guided talks and a map of the Freedom Trail. The walk as far as Old North Church is neither arduous nor long, and most of it is down hill.
Harvard and Harvard Square, easily accessible on the Red Line, are compact and interesting. You can get off at MGH and walk along the Esplanade if it is a nice day. But sadly, you can't use public buses to explore most of central Boston as you can Paris. Copley Square, the Back Bay,Fenway Park and the Museum of Fine Arts are both easy to get to by various branches of the Green Line T, though.
We stayed one night at The Embassy Suites, hotel has free shuttle. Be aware that there are no adjacent restaurants to this hotel. So you are limited to the hotel restaurant on the evening of arrival. The breakfast was very good. Would stay again.
The only other ones you might consider are the Marriott canadian airlines international Courtyard Logan Airport (address is Boston as gail said, DON'T look at any other Marriott properties in Chelsea or other towns) and the Comfort Inn Logan Airport (in Revere, but near the airport).
