Joan will be buried in Las Vegas next to her late husband on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Palm Mortuary Down


Joan (Joann) Hood Wiseman, 84, passed away surrounded by her loving family and grandchildren on August 17, 2014. The oldest of five children, Joan was born on July 11, 1930 in Cement, OKLA to Jewell O. Reece and Simon F. Hood. As a young woman, Joan traveled to California where she soon met her future husband, Mort Wiseman. They were married on July 16, 1951 and made their home in Las Vegas, NV. Joan worked for many years at the Flamingo hotel and later the Hilton hotel, first as a hostess and later as the manager of the coffee shop. She made many life-long friendships during those years. Her husband Mort, passed away on Dec. 29, 1990 after a long battle with diabetes.
In 1991, Joan became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She found much joy and happiness in service to others. Joan was a member of the Relief Society Presidency hotel washington as well as holding many other callings. She enjoyed sharing her conversion story and her faith in Jesus Christ. She touched the lives of many people who loved her dearly. Joan was a resident of Las Vegas for 50 years. In her later years as her health declined, she moved to Utah to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Joan had a special love for children and delighted in being around them. Her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren were her whole world. They always brought a sparkle hotel washington to her eyes and joy to her face when she held them. Joan loved knitting and crocheting and created many beautiful pieces for others. She was a “do it yourself” gal who always “made do” with what she had and her home always looked beautiful. One of Joan’s defining attributes was gratitude. She always took the time to make you feel special and showered you with appreciation hotel washington for everything. She was a classy lady and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Joan is survived by her two children Karen (Ken) Rayburn of Orem, UT and Lawrence J. Wiseman of California; Grandchildren Shay L. (Destiny) Rayburn hotel washington of Lehi, UT and Kelly S. (Jared) Dearth of Lehi, Ut.; two Great-granddaughters, Kennley Dearth and Savanah Rayburn and another great-granddaughter on the way. Joan is also survived by her siblings Gwen (Phil) Wilson, Larry (Anita) Hood, Denzil (Rebeca) Hood, and Shirley (Robert) Dyer.
Funeral services will be held at Sunberg-Olpin Mortuary at 445 S. State St. in Orem, UT on Thursday, Aug. 21 st . A viewing will be held at 12:00-12:45 p.m. and the memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.
Joan will be buried in Las Vegas next to her late husband on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Palm Mortuary hotel washington Downtown Cemetery, 1325 N. Main St. Las Vegas, NV. There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. for those friends and family who wish to attend.
That is a beautiful obituary for a beautiful lady. We will miss her laugh and her cheerful happy disposition and we will just plain miss her. We wish you peace and comfort at this difficult time time.
We were so sorry to hear about Joann. She was a wonderful ladie. We enjoyed visiting her in Vegas. She was always so sweet and made you feel welcome.
