Sapphire Preferred is one of my top all-around travel cards; it earns you 2 points for every dollar you spend on travel including bermuda cruise rental cars. Plus, if you grandfather in the recently eliminated 7% annual point dividend , you re actually bermuda cruise getting 2.14 Ultimate Rewards per dollar spent on rentals, a much better rate of return bermuda cruise than the 1 Starpoint per dollar you d get for a rental car spend (as a non-Starwood purchase) on the Starwood bermuda cruise Preferred Guest Amex . Even though I value Starpoints highly, I ll always take 2.14  Chase Ultimate Rewards points  over 1 Starpoint.
Unlike the SPG Amex, the Chase Sapphire Preferred also incurs no foreign transaction fees, and as part of its recent wave of benefit changes, the card now offers primary auto insurance coverage in the event of collision or damage to your rental car.
Sorry, SPG Amex, but you ll have to come up with some pretty good perks to beat Chase Sapphire Preferred in the car rental department! Hopefully, bermuda cruise we ll see some benefit improvements from this card in the coming months.

I used Chase Ultimate Rewards points to book a car rental. I used my Chase Sapphire to pay the additional fees, taxes, etc. Am I covered by the additional auto insurance Chase Sapphire provides or do I need to purchase it from the vendor? Thx
FYI, if you prepay the rental through Budget s website, the charge isn t coded as Travel and you don t get the 2x points. Not sure if this is true with other car rental companies, but usually the prepay savings is worth not getting the extra points for me. I ve even contacted Chase to see if they will credit what is clearly a travel charge, but they wouldn t do it due do the different charge code.
I use my Chase Sapphire Preferred for car rentals (Avis) and get SPG points (50/day) for the partner points. As far as AMEX SPG (Hilton too) improvements, they should not charge foreign transaction fees for charges at the respective hotels.
