As she grew larger and it became hard for Genevive to care for herself, her husband hired a nurse to

Bowers Harbor Inn, built in the 1880s on Traverse City, Michigan’s, Old Mission Peninsula, was the summer home of Chicago lumber baron J.W. Stickney and his wife Genevive. Today the building houses southwest airlines online reservations the Jolly Pumpkin, a casual restaurant and brewery, and Mission Table, an upscale restaurant. However, even though the property has passed through several hands since the Stickney’s owned it, some say Genevive hasn’t left.
My husband southwest airlines online reservations and I met Mike Norton, Media Relations Manager for Traverse City Tourism, southwest airlines online reservations and his wife Karen for dinner at the Jolly Pumpkin, a restaurant and brewery popular with locals. Jolly Pumpkin offers a variety of sandwiches, pizzas, salads and entrees complemented by artisan ales brewed on site. Since we were dining at a brewery on a peninsula jutting out into Grand Traverse Bay, I thought it right to order the fish and chips, Great Lakes perch prepared with an ale batter. It turned out to be a good choice, southwest airlines online reservations the batter crisp and light enough that it didn’t overpower the tender fish.
After dinner Mike and Karen showed us the rest of the Bowers Harbor Inn. The Mission Table restaurant’s menu showcases local foods and wines, southwest airlines online reservations like braised lamb shank with root vegetables or pan seared lake trout served with toasted cous cous, kale and pumpkin.
southwest airlines online reservations Genevive may not believe it is no longer her bedroom, though, or that Bowers Harbor Inn is no longer her home, as some say she still makes her presence known. Legend has it that Genevive was a jealous woman. She had a weight problem and became so obese she had an elevator put into the home when it became difficult for her to climb the stairs to the second southwest airlines online reservations floor.
As she grew larger and it became hard for Genevive to care for herself, her husband hired a nurse to care for her. Genevive southwest airlines online reservations was jealous of the nurse, and perhaps rightfully so. When her husband southwest airlines online reservations passed away, she found out during the reading of the will that although he left the mansion to Genevive, his fortune went to the nurse. Genevive became so distraught that she eventually hanged herself in the elevator shaft.
southwest airlines online reservations Over the years there have been accounts of a woman in an evening gown appearing in the background of the mirror as a guest looked into it. Pans have dropped, southwest airlines online reservations and faucets have turned on without explanation other than that Genevive is making it known that even though businesses have occupied the building for years, including the current Jolly Pumpkin and Mission Table restaurants, it is still her home, too.

This is pure bs. My grandmother is one of the nurses who worked for Mr. stickney and his wife did not hang herself in an elevator. This is a silly story made up to make the place more intriguing. Wish Bowers harbor could just rely on their food and service instead of relying on outlandish, made up tales.
You grandma would need to be well over 100 years old to have been a nurse for the Stickneys. The story has changed through southwest airlines online reservations the years however in the 70 s and 80 s we always said it was from above the staircase. I worked their from 1972-1981 and can say strange events did happen now and then. Some of the cooks briefly used one of the original bedrooms upstairs and swore they saw her. On one very busy night a waitress came running into the kitchen saying a plate had flown off her tray jack and slammed into the wall 10 foot away- this was witnessed by many people. In closing the restaurant late one night I had a light in a remote lower section of the restaurant turn back on a few seconds after I turned it off and let me tell you I was seriously spooked.
While I suppose it is possible for Mrs. Stickney s ghost to haunt anywhere she wants Including the old Bowers Harbor Inn she did NOT die by hanging southwest airlines online reservations there. It is also not true (according to these legal records) that Genevieve southwest airlines online reservations died after Charles. In fact just the opposite occurred. Note the dates of the deaths.
I meant Genevive southwest airlines online reservations one evening in 1970. She was standing southwest airlines online reservations at the head of the staircase that went up to the old bedrooms. She had a long red dress on. I grew up about a mile from the inn, and had heard about the stories.
Well, Mark Feiger, you certainly have interesting math. I was not alive but my grandmother who died 10 years ago was 94 years old and was indeed a nurse for Mr. Stickney, who as the facts above show, was alive until 1949. As a matter of fact, Mr. Stickney wanted to know how much my grandparents new basement addition costs and then instructed her to bring the bill to him. She said that he was a wonderful man. She traveled to the Pantlind with him on several southwest airlines online reservations occasions, as a caretaker. You can find a ghost or Ghostest anywhere you want, but as far as hanging in Boers Harbor Inn, Hardy har har!
Genevive Stickney, who was also called Jenny, died before her husband. He was with her in Grand Rapids they were staying in a hotel. I don t doubt that she may be haunting the home that they loved, but she did not die there and her husband did not die before her. He died in Traverse City. Genevive s nurse just died about a year ago she also had a home on Old Mission Peninsula not far from the Inn. I have copies of death certificates and obituaries to verify all that I m saying.
