We missed Branson last year and went to Orange Beach,Ga. My dad had told me several things were lost in a tornado earlier last year. One of the things he mentioned was Walmart and the Jubilee store. Are those place rebuilt? What else is gone and not rebuilt and what was gone but now rebuilt? Just curious. 24 days and we are on are way.
Walmart wasn't destroyed...still open. Just the Jubilee store was demolished, radisson plaza hotel and they are rebuilding it right now. Shoney's near that Walmart was taken out and they are working on that one, too (finally!). The whole shopping radisson plaza hotel center where Mazzio's Pizza was is gone....flattened totally and no plans to rebuild. Shops there have relocated, for the most part (but no Mazzios in town now). Ozarkland souvenir shop is being rebuilt just as before. Many other hotels suffered damage - most have rebuilt, but some are being torn down. All the major attractions/hotels are just fine now. So thankful we didn't lose any lives in that storm.... stuff can be replaced, but lives cannot! Enjoy your trip down here...Branson is alive and well!
The Branson Auto Museum in the old Engler's Block was also extensively damaged, and torn down. The new, bigger, and better building is well on it's way under construction on the same site. Charlie's Steak, Ribs, and Ale was also destroyed, but has been rebuilt and is now open. A few of the older, smaller motels on the strip were torn down, and not replaced. The Blue Bayou motel was severely damaged, torn down, and now a new go-kart track occupies part of the space. So far one business who's roof was torn off hasn't done anything much, and It doesn't looking like they are going to. The Candlestick Inn on the bluff overlooking Lake Taneycomo, and the Landing still had it's roof covered with tarps the last time I looked. I would like to hear If anybody has heard of their plans.
radisson plaza hotel There were probably 10 hotels that were destroyed and have not been rebuilt. Several business were destroyed, MOST have rebuilt or relocated. Only 4 or 5 properties are still sitting radisson plaza hotel there and haven't at least torn down the buildings. Some tourists don't even realize we had a major tornado tear up our town lol.
The small strip mall where Mazzio's pizza was, on the eastern end of the strip, was unfortunately demolished and I don't think anything has been rebuilt there, and Mazzio's hasn't opened a new location that I'm aware of.
The crashed airplane that was a landmark along the strip at the Lost Treasure minigolf course was knocked off and onto the strip! They did not put it back so it must have been too damaged. For a while they had a hot air balloon in its place but when we were there at Spring Break it wasn't there.
