I'm planning my honeymoon for June 2014. Right now my top 3 destinations are St. Lucia, united airline flights Aruba, and St. John. My budget is around $4000 for the entire trip and airfare is around $1000, leaving me with $3000 for our hotel and food/drinks. I was looking at Sandals in St. Lucia and like the idea of it being all-inclusive. They have 3 resorts there, so I feel like we would have a lot of dining options. In Aruba, I don't think we would do an all-inclusive because it doesn't have as many options and St. John doesn't offer all-inclusive.
Our biggest desires on our honeymoon are relaxing, sight seeing and being safe leaving the resort. united airline flights I believe that most of these islands are relatively safe from most of what I've read. Neither my fianc or myself have been to the Caribbean and neither of us have traveled much so we have nothing really to compare it to.
I have been to all 3 including the Sandals Grande resort in St. Lucia. I have also been to the Sandals in Nassau, Bahamas. Based on those experiences I am not a fan of Sandals. They are overpriced for what they offer. If you want AI there are better options. Look at the Rendezvous resort instead. I could not get the Sandals Grande with the lowest united airline flights category room with air for $4,000. It was more than that. Of course, in my area we pay the highest air rates out there. It was a complete waste of our money. (IMHO)
St. Lucia and Aruba are totally opposite of each other. St. Lucia is lush with mountains and waterfalls. Lots of flora and fauna. Great for sightseeing. Aruba is flat with white sand beaches. I loved both, but for different reasons. I agree going AI in Aruba is not the best idea. They have so many wonderful united airline flights restaurants and bars that part of the experience there is trying as many as you can. There are many St. John lovers on this forum. united airline flights I am not one of them. Though is a very nice island, I found it too quite and boring for us.
Thanks KVR. I think we are leaning towards St. Lucia. We are discussing possibly staying 5 nights in the Castries area (or somewhere in the northern part of the island) and then maybe 2 nights in Soufriere or Vieux Fort areas. Have you stayed in all of these areas? Is this a good idea or should we just travel/go sightseeing from the northern part of the island and stay up there the whole week? We are pretty flexible, but just want to be able to see as much as possible while we are there. Thanks!
From St. Lucia you can do a day trip to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Martinique. I so regret that we did not do those. I would have preferred to Island hop than spend the kind of money we did on Sandals. Live and learn.
