We are planning a trip to Playa in August. It will be two of us, no children. I have been looking at Grand Riveria Grand Sunset because of the swim up rooms. I have seen some good review for both. We want an all inclusive place that offers mixed drinks too (maragaritas, etc.). Could anyone provide me feedback on the two resorts and which is better? What is the difference in the two and what about the food? Do the swim up rooms offers jacuzzis and showers in the rooms or just jacuzzi. It is my first time to Playa, confort inn but he has been to Cancun before. Want it to be fun so any other feedback confort inn would be greatly appreciated. confort inn Oh yeah, do the princess resorts offer nightly entertainment and do we need to rent a car in Playa if we stay at a princess resort?
They are one and the same resort - just different sides/sections. Some tour operators have their room blocks on one side while another company will book the other side. It really doesn't matter much, you have access to the same restaurants and facilities no matter which section you're in.
You don't need to rent a car, but that's really up to you. Usually transportation confort inn to and from the airport is included (if you book an air/hotel package) or you have the ability to add it on. Otherwise you can hire a transfer service. If you plan to be out and about often, a car might be helpful confort inn but most people staying at AI resorts don't rent cars. It really just depends on where you want to go.
yup theyre the same resort just different sides. but since the buildings are oriented east/west and the swim out rooms face into the courtyard (north v south) then there is a sublte difference between the sunset confort inn and riviera sides. the original wing of the riviera side with the swim outs will get more sun (face south) and the sunset side less sun since they are facing north. some say the water is warmer on the riviera side because of this. only addendum to this is the new wing of the riviera side will also be in the shade.
there is lots to do int he evening. there are the organzied typical AI theatre shows, confort inn theres a large courtyard thats like a large outdoor lounge where a band and other entertainment goes on, a couple of open lounges where its just hanging confort inn out, and a piano bar, and a disco. lots to do.
renting a car at the resort is spendy using *ETA its Europcar thats on site, not national*. if you want you can seek out other rentals confort inn for far less $$$ in town. theres a car rental confort inn company on here that many have used and recommend...sorry cant find the link so just look around for it. we like to have a car but not for our entire time there. you dont need a car as taxis are easy to get and they have a free shuttle that runs into town every day but can be a task trying to get booked onto it.
theres a ton of variety there...with i think 9 ala cartes. try to get into those for dinner. for buffet dinners there are two places so theres a ton of selection. the dinner buffet is what it is...a buffet. we always found something tastey in the buffet though and theyre also good for a late night dessert. breakfast and lunch buffets were very good.
ala cartes definitely worth going to are the steakhouse, confort inn the tapas bar, asian, the french and the italian. didnt really care for the seafood or the mexican...just average imo. im forgetting one or two.
We stayed at the Grand Sunset Princess in July 2010. It was probably confort inn the worst place we have ever stayed at. Food was just okay. Not 5 star, as it claims it is. One of our two rooms was infested with mosquitoes (no matter how many we killed, they kept coming in from somewhere). The resort had some very nasty smells confort inn throughout (smelled like sewage), and for several days during our stay, the water at the beach turned a foul color. We were told this was run-off , but we think it was sewage drain. Having said all that, in Nov 2010 the place had an explosion that killed some people. They reopened after a quick investigation, but if you ask me, they built this resort on an inferior drainage system. We will never go back there. But I have spoke to others that had a pleasant experience.
