This spring I am looking to travel the west coast ( Las Vegas, LA, San Fran, Seattle) and this will be my first time dealing with a car rental company. The trip will span approximately 12 days and I'm looking at the cheapest possible way of dealing with this. I am 24 years old and know that I will pay a slightly higher rate for renting a car, so I am aware of that, but I was wondering if it's better to rent the car for all those 12 days or better to rent a new car for each city that I am in, would that be cheaper? Maybe somebody can advise some car rental tips for me. I would greatly appreciate it, thanks!

12 days doesn't seem like enough time to see Las Vegas (2 days?) Los Angeles (3 days), Seattle (2 days) and San Francisco (3 days?) You've also got to figure in all the driving time between the four places. And those places do not flow together, there is backtracking from Seattle back down to SFO for your flight home.
But yeah, it is not a long time but I figured it would just be a quick trip , seeing the west coast and taking the scenic routes ( pacific coast highway, route 66 , etc etc ). I will have to look more into what would be more sensible thing to do as far as car rental goes, I do not want to be spending too much.

Follow US 93 to Kingman AZ and decide if you want to go east on the old 66 all the way to Seligman or follow I-40 west through Needles. I really don't believe one could do LV to SF in 9 hours through some very monotonous countryside. There are pit stops, lunch stops, gas stops, fatigue stops - even if all of these stops are combined into one stop, it'll still take more than 9 hours.
