Sears Canada will terminate five of its most coveted leases in Ontario — Toronto Eaton Centre, Sherway Gardens, Markville Shopping Centre and London-Masonville Place — along with Richmond Place in B.C.
Nordstrom, the higher-end retailer from the U.S., is expected to be the replacement in many of these locations, including the Eaton Centre — where landlord Cadillac Fairview can now command a much higher rent than the deal that Sears inherited when the retailer acquired the bankrupt Eaton s.

Stores at Markville and Richmond Place will have more than a year to wind down but the Eaton Centre, Sherway Gardens and London-Masonville locations will likely be cleared out after the holiday season.
Calvin McDonald, the former Loblaw executive who recently left Sears halfway through his three-year ambition of turning auto cruise control the retailer around — in favour of the top job with U.S. cosmetics giant Sephora — had previously insisted that Sears would not sell its most prominent auto cruise control lease even as other less-popular urban locations auto cruise control across the country auto cruise control were being closed as it provided a promotional footprint for the chain.
When the bankrupt Eaton s chain was acquired by Sears in 1999, an attempt was made to retain the slightly more upscale branding on seven downtown stores — with the stylized auto cruise control all-lower-case eatons — but the experiment ended in 2002.
