This is what happens when a group of lost, confused no-longer-teenybopper fangirls put their conside

This Friday, I am going to the National Theater in DC to see the new musical, If/Then , starring Idina Menzel as Elizabeth, a woman who moves to New York to rebuild her life, and Anthony Rapp, both of whom starred renaissance hotel columbus ohio in the original broadway cast of RENT (OH. MY. GOD.)   . The show is doing a try out in DC, before it is expected to move to Broadway in March, renaissance hotel columbus ohio 2014.
If you follow me on twitter, or have known me for awhile, you know how much musical theater means to me. My apartment renaissance hotel columbus ohio is decorated in framed posters of Broadway shows like Aida , and Wicked . I ve seen more shows than I can count, renaissance hotel columbus ohio and my iTunes is filled with show tunes from Spring Awakening to The Lion King . However, the one show that has the strongest hold over me is, RENT , so seeing Idina and Anthony (we re close like that) back on stage, together, is sending my heart into overdrive.
I first saw RENT in Detroit with my mom when I was in high school. She bought tickets renaissance hotel columbus ohio not really knowing too much about the show, so imagine her surprise when the opening number starts off with swearing and moves quickly into tales of drug use, homosexuality, and sex. I m lucky that I have a very liberal mother who didn t quite blink an eye at what was being sung about and shown on stage, and by the end of the show, was bawling into kleenex just like me.
The show, which was written by Jonathan Larson, (who did not live to see the show open, he died from an undiagnosed aortic aneurysm) and opened in 1996. It is based on Giacomo Puccini s opera  La bohème . It is the story of a group of poor young artists and musicians struggling to survive New York City s Lower East Side in the thriving, under the shadow and threat of HIV/AIDS.
The original cast was incredibly diverse included fairly unknown actors who went on to hugely successful careers. Some notable members of the cast are: Anthony Rapp ( You re A Good Man Charlie Brown ), Adam Pascal ( Aida, Memphis ), Idina Menzel renaissance hotel columbus ohio ( Wicked ), Taye Diggs ( How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Private Practice ), and Jesse L. Martin ( Law Order ).
In 2005, the musical was made into a movie, starring all but two members of the original cast. As a RENT-head, I have to say I didn t love it. Part of what makes the show so special is the raw emotion on stage that just cannot be conveyed across a screen.
I am pretty sure I could sing the entire show, all parts, to you if you asked. To this day, I ll Cover You (Reprise) still brings me to tears. I don t care how many old episodes of Law Order I see, Jess L. Martin will forever be Angel s love, Tom Collins. Seasons Of Love will forever be, in my opinion, one of the greatest songs to come out of Broadway.

Oh my god I m so jealous. I want to see that. I met Idina Menzel once when she came to Milwaukee and stayed at the hotel my friend worked at she was so nice and said I have a beautiful smile which I will never ever forget. Like, she s perfect. Eeeee, I hope you have a fabulous time!!!
Thank you! I hope it s amazing. I would LOVE to meet her. I met Heather Headley (Aida) in the airport in NYC after my high school drama trip where we had seen her on stage just a few days prior. It was surreal. She and I had on the same sweater and she was so sweet.
I am so jealous! What I would do to see IF/THEN, but being as I live in France I can t even consider renaissance hotel columbus ohio it. So yeah, please when you see it on Friday, enjoy twice more, once for you and once for the poor French girl that I am.
But anyway, so first my favorite show is RENT, but where we never had a love representation so the only version I saw are the film and the live version on the closing night. I never got the chance to see all the power and emotion that you see when it s playing live, but even just the filming version are enough to make me cry everytime, sing along, and love every single moment of the show. RENT taught me a lot about how to live my life, just leaving in the moment and enjoy every single minute. I think that once you see RENT and really feels all it s meaning it cannot not change your life. At least it changed mine and opened my eyes.
I would love to share my favorite show tune with you, but I m afraid renaissance hotel columbus ohio I cannot pick just one. Broadway renaissance hotel columbus ohio and Idina are my life and love everything about them. But if I had to chose it would probably renaissance hotel columbus ohio be I ll Cover You (Reprise) from RENT, or No Good Deed from Wicked
Ahhhhh! I love how much you love the show too! I will definitely enjoy it twice as much for you. RENT definitely changed the way I view the world. Even though renaissance hotel columbus ohio I said I didn t love the movie, I definitely still own it. I will take it in any and all forms. Feel free to talk about musicals alllll day long!
RENT is definitely my favorite musical. Nothing will ever speak to me as much as that show does. It was the first piece of musical theatre I truly fell in love with. I ve seen the show a bunch, including once with Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascale, and every time I sob like a baby.
After that I d have to say Wicked is up there on my list. I never saw Idina in it, but I ve seen a few touring companies renaissance hotel columbus ohio (including one in Sydney, Australia) that were pretty spectacular. My favorite Elphaba (that I ve seen live) would have to be Ana Gasteyer. I didn t know what to expect going in but she blew me away.
I had NO idea Ana Gasteyer did Wicked. renaissance hotel columbus ohio WHOA! That s incredible. I also need to see Book of Mormon too. Every time I even think about looking renaissance hotel columbus ohio at tickets, I have to back away from my laptop because they re so expensive and always sold out.
Yeah, BOM is always crazy pricey and hard to get. I wanted to do lottery in Chicago, but it s not worth it to drive down just in case, you know? I m hoping a good cast tours eventually, cos then they ll probably come to Milwaukee. FINGERS CROSSED.
The Normal Heart is the best show I ve ever seen. RENT is my favorite musical, followed by Les Mis. And Starlight Express was on rollerskates and I don t give a damn how cheesy it is, that s just awesome.
If pressed to pick a favorite show I would probably say the first one I saw, when I was 5- The Wiz- just because I remember it so vividly renaissance hotel columbus ohio as being a special event and it cleared the way for lots of theater love as I grew up. Annie was special- I remember the hubub about the casting all over the NY news papers- renaissance hotel columbus ohio my parents took my sister me as a joint birthday gift and we watched from the front row. My sister and I were again jointly gifted with tickets renaissance hotel columbus ohio to Phantom, this time for graduating jr high high school.
In the past few years my husband I have gotten to take our kids to see Mary Poppins, Lion King, and Billy Elliot on our visits to NY, thanks to my generous renaissance hotel columbus ohio mom. When we go to NY this Thanksgiving we re going to see Wicked. I teared up watching the kids watch Mary Poppins- I d wanted to take them to a musical for so long, and it was such a big part of my childhood.
I gotta pick JC Superstar as my favourite musical. I have many, being brought up on stage shows and Fred Astaire type movie musicals. And it s surprising because, when we would wake up on a Saturday morning renaissance hotel columbus ohio with JC Superstar blaring through the house and my mom singing along at the top of her voice (my mom has a great voice) it generally meant that my mom was in a mood. And you know, those things stick with you
This is what happens when a group of lost, confused no-longer-teenybopper fangirls put their considerable brains (and arguably considerable talents) together. You never know what we’re going to talk about (though the menus at the top may give you an idea) but we can guarantee renaissance hotel columbus ohio there will be capslocking and keysmashing involved.
